They say beware an older man in a profession where one often dies young. Now while the Captain of the Midnight Special isn't exactly old, he is a veteran of an ever changing and dangerous game. Only ever going by the name Locke, little is known about the pirate once called the Shadow of the Outer Rim. He wanders the galaxy seeking fame, fortune, and adventure. Eluding all, even the Imperium's grasp, he realizes that he must now adapt in a galaxy in turmoil. Personality A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it. Chaotic neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it seeks to eliminate all authority, harmony, and order in society. Beliefs Above respect for life and good, or disregard for life and promotion of evil, the chaotic neutral places randomness and disorder. Good and evil are complementary balance arms. Neither are preferred, nor must either prevail, for ultimate chaos would then suffer. This view of the cosmos holds that absolute freedom is necessary. Whether the individual exercising such freedom chooses to do good or evil is of no concern. After all, life itself is law and order, so death is a desirable end. Therefore, life can only be justified as a tool by which order is combated, and in the end it too will pass into entropy. Chaotic neutral characters believe that there is no order to anything, including their own actions. With this as a guiding principle, they tend to follow whatever whim strikes them at the moment. Good and evil are irrelevant when making a decision. Chaotic neutral characters are extremely difficult to deal with. Such characters have been known to cheerfully and for no apparent purpose gamble away everything they have on the roll of a single die. Chaotic neutral characters like to indulge in everything. This is the insurgent, the con-man, gambler, and high roller; the uncommitted freebooter seeking nothing more than self-gratification. This type of character will at least consider doing anything if they can find enjoyment or amusement. Life has meaning, but theirs has the greatest meaning. According to chaotic neutrals, laws and rules infringe on personal freedom and were meant to be broken. This character is always looking for the best deal, and will work with good, neutral, or evil to get it; as long as he comes out of the situation on top. The chaotic neutral is constantly teetering between good and evil, rebelling, and bending the law to fit his needs. Chaotic neutrals can also be completely random and unpredictable. They may shift allegiances at a moment's notice, or remain with a leader for years. The chaotic neutral character feels that there is no plan at all for the universe. Things just happen. They tend to believe in luck and chance, rather than fate or destiny. They don't care what happens to others, yet will not necessarily go out of their way to harm others. If someone stands in the way of their happiness, they may kill that individual or move on to something else. Their priorities tend to change as they experience new things in life. They may even appear to adhere to another alignment for some length of time, only to switch at an inappropriate moment. They can be the worst tricksters, conning people, not for gain, but for sheer amusement. The chaotic neutral may not be driven by fame or wealth, but may only take actions just to see what happens. Biography Little is known and less is understood of the Captain of the Midnight Special's past. August Therin Lockheart was born among the stars to a small time pirate named Jak Lockheart and his beautiful smuggler wife, Ysaara Irion. He grew up among ships and people of all kinds. His first friends were raiders, pirates, smugglers, and thieves. From an early age he could swindle a miser out of his last credit, he could gamble better than professional, and knew smuggling routes like the back of his hand. For the first decade of his life he learned the tools of the trade following his father and mother along their adventures throughout the Outer Rim. While he wasn't able to contribute much, he was with his parents and wanted for nothing.
It was until his tenth birthday that he was awoken by the sounds of alarms and fighting in the halls. A bold mutiny was underway led by a young and ambitious Zabrak named Crimson Craxx. He had lured all but the most loyal crew to his side with promises of wealth and power. Smarter than some of the grown men on his family's ship, August managed to avoid the fights and fires by using ducts and forgotten passages to reach the bridge and his parents. They were overjoyed that their son was alive but it was too late and they knew it. Craxx and his men were cutting through the door, they were far too outnumbered but they wouldn't give this upstart the satisfaction of complete victory. There was only one escape pod left on the bridge, though it only had room for one passenger. So in a tearful farewell they ushered their child into the pod and launched it before starting the self-destruct. The last memories he has of his parents is their vessel exploding in the distance as his pod drifted to Toydaria. It was there he was found by Kantuu Monakka, a minor Toydarian Duke. He found the child on his land and instantly took a liking to the fast talking, sticky-fingered human child who threatened him with a stick while spouting colorful curses. He could tell the child had been through a great ordeal of loss and sorrow, his pod had been drifting for days. Hungry and crying he took the young boy to his home where he promised he wouldn't be alone anymore. He adopted the child, a scandal at the time, as he had no children of his own and kept good on his promise. For the next ten years he raised August as his own, teaching him the intricate politics and customs of Toydaria. He spoiled him with wealth, luxury, and anything else he desired. But coming from a family and world that was used to taking, he still had plenty of misadventures involving thefts and one night stands with visiting dignitaries of varying species. He knew about the war, but Toydaria was neutral and stayed far from the conflict so it had little effect on his life until the Alliance fell and the Cartel rose again in full. It was on his twenty-first birthday that his father asked what gift did he want this year. And this time? He would follow in his birth parent's footsteps. Kantuu gifted him a ship and wished him well in his adventures, advising him to becareful and to visit once in awhile. He smiled slyly and winked, "No promises on the carefulness but rest assured I will visit!"
August gathered a small crew and for the next ten years he raided, pillaged, and adventured along the Outer Rim just as his parents did so long ago. He built up a reputation and became relatively infamous, but as the Imperium began to tighten their grip August decided it was time for a new course of action. Pirates and raiders were being systematically wiped out or driven out all across the Universe. So he began to form an idea and reached out to others across the galaxy. The Coalition is just an idea now, but it just might save their way of life. Coming Soon

Property At great cost Locke 'acquired' two IG-86 Sentinel Droids he nicknamed Rust and Scrap. He uses them as bodyguards but primarily leaves them on the ship when he departs to watch over his prized vessel. While not as deadly as the newer IG-88's they are still top of the line and dangerous machines. They can think independently but are unflinchingly loyal to Locke whom they view as one of the few 'organics' tolerable. Dragged from a scrapyard on Nar Shaddaa, Locke reconstructed a handful of Pistoeka Sabotage Droids. Better known simply as Buzz Droids. He uses them for salvage collecting but has also been known to use them for ambushes or skirmishes. He has only five operational but is always looking to collect more. Ship Locke's flagship is The Midnight Special. It is a modified Action IV Transport made by the Corellian Engineering Corporation. A medium bulk freighter of their Action series of ships. His ship has been modified to a more combat, hit and run oriented ship than a transport vessel. The armor has been reinforced and an armament of four lasers cannons have been added; two on the front and one on each side. Crew The navigator and protocol droid of The Midnight Special, AL-32 is a valuable member of the crew. He is their official liaison when they don't trust someone or some situation. He has never had a memory and as such, has developed a 'colorful' personality; curse words included. He is crass and is rarely kind to anyone who isn't a part of the crew. Urun Radell, more commonly known as Urun the Black, is a former mercenary who was reputed with killing a pair a fully grown Rancors with nothing but a rock when the Hutts threw him in their arena. He was also known for taking even the most distasteful of jobs. One day he crossed paths with Locke who bested him in a duel; the first time he had ever lost. From then on he pledge himself to Locke. Zawwa and Kawwa, the twins that never slow down and never shut up, help keep The Midnight Special together. Jawas are natural mechanics, but these two have been more fascinated with ships than crawlers. So when they happened upon Locke and AL-32, AL-27 back then, arguing about a mechanical problem while they were docked in Anchorage. They ran up, rushed by, and fixed the problem before the pirate could reply. He was so impressed he offered them a spot, which they took instantly and had already loaded their possessions. Do no harm. A doctor's creed, but one not necessarily they all follow. Especially Doc Qur, pronounced 'cure,' and his ironic name. He's as likely to sew you up as cut you open, in fact he's done both on several occasions. No one is exactly sure what his real name or species is. He is rather mysterious, his voice masked as is his face. Locke manages to keep his slight sadistic side under control and Qur does have die-hard loyalty for the man since the day he mysteriously appeared on The Midnight Special, clinic and all set up. A smuggler's work is never done, but you always have to watch what your smuggle and for whom. Unfortunantly Inarria managed to get in the middle of a blood feud between Locke and a local Nar Shaddaa crime lord who had doublecrossed him. The Arkanian woman manage to evade Locke and his crew...at first. Locke is always a step ahead of most people and caught her at her ship. She thought he was going to kill her but he saved her instead because she was doublecrossed as well. She watched as her ship exploded seconds after he stopped her. They teamed up and took him down, then she joined the crew. Mainly because she hated owing people. Slassk Yurven. Once he ran a very successful group of slavers and hunters, he once got a target he would wish he hadn't. He was hired to track down and eliminate the Shadow of the Outer Rim; Locke. For weeks his team dogged them, each group playing a game of cat and mouse with neither gaining the advantage. It wasn't until he ran his team into the ground against his foe that he realized how flimsy their loyalty was. Shot in the back and left for dead, he woke up on The Midnight Special in their medbay. Locke offered him a choice; they could finish their fight or he could join his crew and see what real loyalty was. Each of them would die before betraying one another. After a few moments, he joined the crew. | August Lockheart Captain of the Midnight Special
