The brisk, bitter night's air battles with Batman's cape for position, blowing it this way and that on Gotham City's rooftops. Only a few street lights below marred the black night sky. It would be difficult for anyone to see the Dark Knight standing watch over his city, but all those in the city could feel his presence. For the citizens, it was a comforting feeling knowing they were being cared for by a just, if brutal, guardian. For the criminals, it was... fear.

What lay in stock for Bruce Wayne was anyone's guess. However, as he faded away into the night, into what dark corner no one knew, it was clear something was brewing. Something sinister lay in wait for Gotham City's guardian, but what it was only time would tell.

I leave it to you all to do whatever it is you want. Plot, train, construct, attack, do whatever feels right. However, just know that the Batman will be there to watch over you...

On the streets of Gotham City, two SWAT trucks zoomed through the streets. Inside the trucks were men dressed in Gotham Police Department SWAT heavy gear. These men were not the SWAT team, but members of the League of Assassins. Only one man was not dressed in a SWAT uniform. His name was Ra's al Ghul, the leader of the League of Assassins. He was dressed in his crimson samurai robes with a katana at his side. The trucks were en route to Gotham City Hall. Only one stood in the way of their objective, Batman.

Harvey Dent, better known now as Two Face, sat in the back of his limousine, one of his boys behind the wheel, one in the passenger's seat, and two sitting directly across from Face. He was wearing his rather expensive suit, where his unscarred side was a nice tux with a white under shirt, while his scarred side was the same suit, just opposite colors, as well as his expensive fedora that was also split colors. He was saying nothing, but was flipping his coin in his right hand constantly, both men across from him sweating in fear. Something was up... Something was on Two-Face's insane mind.

'So, the Bat stands watch over this pathetic dump once more. How dull.'

Catwoman sat aside a grotesque gargoyle atop Gotham Cathedral, swing her legs as she sat on the brink of certain death, her head rubbing the cold hard stone of the statue's shoulder. Her hands barely touched the ledge, tracing lines in the cracks of the stone the structure was built on. Her eyes gazed unblinkingly into the Gotham night, fixed onto something...a dark figure, the wind blowing through his cape, making the appearance he was much more than a human being. But that was all he was. Selina Kyle knew this. Behind the mask, the theatrical costume...it was just a man. Flesh and bone like any other.

OOC: LOL Boli is a girlllll

The rooftops of Gotham were frozen with the recent chill that had swept though the entire city, the wonderful and cold embrace of snow always raised Mr Freeze's spirits ever so slightly but there were things that needed doing, there was no more time needed for plotting or anything like that, there was but one thing that needed doing, the crystal! The one on display in Gotham world famous museum, the ancient aztec crystal was by legend to have regenerative powers, and it would be his no matter who wanted to stop him.

Indeed, the Gotham night was teeming with life, a gentle smog seeming to make the glowing lights of the city, giving it a kind of urbanesque beauty. Edward Nashton, AKA Mr. E. Nigma, AKA The Riddler, stood on one such rooftop, watching the cars pass down. It was odd that the so-called villains of Gotham seemed to like the observer's pose so much, but with the theatrics they applied to their crime, it could be justified.

This evening, he was clad in his preferred colour of green. These days, he had disdain for a jumpsuit, however. Edward instead wore black boots, that had a hint of Italian designer about them, trousers that he supposed he could only describe as slim fitting green jeans, and on his top he wore a green t-shirt, upon which was emblazoned a large black question mark. He also wore a hoodie, of the same green colour, zipped halfway up with the same black question mark emblazoned upon the back, currently the hood down. Under his jacket, he had a pistol, for his own protection. He had also dispensed with the bowler hat that he had once donned, his dark brown hair, which looked almost jet black in the eerie dimness, was straight, but not particularly long. Across his eyes he wore a green eye mask, which left his eyelids in shadow, his eyes seeming to glint unstabley out from the shadow. His skin seemed to be pale in the moonlight, and his lips appeared as though they were painted in a green so dark it was a tiptoe away from being black. In his right hand he held a brass cane, stereotypical to him now, topped with the question mark.

He had accumulated huge amounts of wealth from his crimes, and his public face, Edward Nashton, had to be lavish and stylish, some had even likened him to "the next Bruce Wayne" in his current attitude. Of course, his secret identity, and enjoyment of moonlighting under this apparant façade was unknown to most. In fact it was unknown to all, except perhaps the other two people on the roof. Flanking him were his two most loyal aids, Query and Echo. Both dressed in almost identical green and black outfits, and masked, the only way to be sure of telling them apart was by their hair colour. They were also much more heavily armed than he was, although it would be hard to find exactly where they concealed their weapons upon their green catsuits; Edward had always thought that women could pull them off a lot more easily than men, men always looked ridiculously cringey in them, almost as if they had stepped out of a cheesey 1960s comic.

He was grinning inanely, his dark mouth contorted into an odd grin as he spoke to his assisstants, "Riddle me this, riddle me that...where on earth is that annoying bat?" he took a bunch of envelopes, each black emblazoned with a green question mark and handed one each to Query and Echo, "Now take these letters across the city, you know what to do and who you must see."

They both whispered a quick yes and were gone moments later. Each of those letters was identical, one each for a number of people he happened to know were in Gotham City. They were, like him, adversaries of the Batman. But he did not expect all of them to arrive where he intended. There were some that would be too proud to accept help against the bat, and others who suspected treachery. There might even be a few "supervillains" who could not decipher the riddle contained inside the envelope presented to them. And he knew Echo and Query would not reveal themselves, merely put the envelopes in place for each to find them. They did like to be torments, he even expected them to do such things as steal Freeze's targeted diamonds first, and leave the envelope in their place. In fact he would have bet that they'd do that to any of the other villains. He had of course labelled each envelope with the name of the person it was meant for, scrawled in neat, itallic writing on the front of the envelope. And he had not forgotten to have two prepared for one person, one for Harvey Dent and one for Two Face. Although it would be hilarious to watch, he did not want to be responsible for the man shooting his other half, in case he annoyed one half that much.

The Riddler remained on the rooftop of the building, a prominent one in Gotham, but one of many. The riddle would tell them where he was, and hopefully they should decipher it and come to meet him soon, Echo and Query must have almost delivered all of them by now. The riddle inside read:

Of the Titans, I was the last,
None can catch me, I pass that fast,
The Universe, I did so rule,
Until a rock, felled me cruel,
My children rose, mountains to climb,
To rule Hellas, for my name's time.

If they knew what it meant, they'd know exactly on what building he was standing. But if they did not, they would not turn up. He just hoped that the ones who deciphered it were willing to come.

((It shouldn't be hard to solve, it's easy and it is a real building in Gotham...so if you really can't solve it looking up buildings in Gotham might help a lot. The letters are going to all of the villains, even the ones yet to post, except Ra's Al Ghul, Phantasm and Killer Croc. Nothing personal, but it would be stupid inviting everybody, although not everybody would turn up, and I would prefer you not to interact with the girls, just to find the letters. Okay?))

'You know, you may just be losing your touch,' Catwoman purred as she wandered towards the Riddler, whip in hand. 'You made your little invite to the memorial clocktower too simple. I hope you kept the guest list short, otherwise we'll have every street thug crowding the place...and I don't do too well in crowded spots.'

She kept a safe distance from the Riddler. For her, he was an unknown, unpredictable - uncontrollable. She made note of the change of costume - while he now looked like a graffitist who liked the colour green a little too much, it could just be another one of his little mindgames. Catwoman had had little dealings with him in the past, and she had preferred it that way, but the proverbial cat's curiousity had led her here despite her better judgement. She had plenty of lives to spare anyway.

((So simple I'm not on the clocktower...I can work with this though.))

The riddler's mobile phone, a sleek, thin slide phone, in his preferred green, vibrated in his pocket. He took it out and answered it. It was connected to a simple reciever microphone, designed the call him when somebody came within about 30 yards of where it was placed. Where it was placed, was in a shadowy corner of the clock tower, not too far from his current postition, but obscured by Wayne Tower nonetheless. Even so, on the phone he recognised the voice. He remained remarkably quite, unecessarily so as the reciever did not have a speaker function, so even if he had shouted down the phone nothing would be heard. What he had placed at the clocktower, leaning upon the edge of the wall, was a simple mannequin, wearing a similar hoodie to what he was wearing now, but with the hood up, and the same green trousers. Given the nature of the riddle, he had expected some would believe he meant a clock, but his actual clue was in essence, simpler than that. He laughed, unbeknownest to the feline, as she mentioned his invite being too simple. He pushed a button on the phone, sending a text message which in turn activated a recorded speaker device upon the mannequin, in a horribly robotic, and annoying voice, saying, "Ha. Ha. Ha. Guess Again. Ha. Ha. Ha."

He could imagine just what this would do to annoy the cat, and fully smirked. As he was smirking, his two accomplices returned, standing in their flanking positions once more. He spoke softly to them, "Well done," he said, "it seems you have done your job. Although our feline friend has already turned up at the clock tower. With any luck, she should work out where we are, now she knows we're not there."

Mr Freeze looked over his invitation and pondered it for a moment, his plans were already in place and the wheels were already in motion, perhaps he would take up the riddler's offer and after all, one genius could only be bettered by two though the Riddler was far from a genius in his eyes.

As he went over the riddle in his mind he thought of two potential locations, after a quick conversation over his personal communicator he sent him to Wayne towers while he wet to the observatory thinking these were the only two possible locations.

A lone figure leaped from rooftop to rooftop. The appearance of the Phantasm is what it is: a phantom of the dark knight. No one but the Phantasm knows of the fake crusader's real identity. All the public knew was that the Phantasm operated much like Batman, but with a more vicious punishment than the knight. Fear is what is needed to control the lawbreakers of Gotham; if Batman refuses to use such psychological advantage, then the Phantasm will.

Movement below prompted the Phantasm to look down. A lone man was running, a purse in hand, another behind him, giving chase. Pickpocket. In a matter of seconds, the criminal was laying upon the concrete sidewalk, bleeding. Long before a crowd gathered to see what was going on, the Phantasm continued his, or her, own watch over Gotham City.

((OOC: No one has Killer Croc yet, right?))

Killer Croc was in the waters; watching people go by. "These people are so dumb. They've neve' seen a croc in these parts I bet..." He swam towards a dock, and jumped up on it. "I think it's time for this here croc to have some fun..." Killer Croc spotted a man about to ride his speed boat. Croc ran over, and threw the man out of it. "I thank ya for this boat here. Don't worry, I plan on not giving it back. Later sucka..." Killer Croc started the speed boat up, and went out on the lake...

((Please ask any questions you have either through PM to me or preferably in the Batman: Villains OOC thread in the Diverse OOC section.

Also, Killer Croc is taken. There is a list of villains and what villains are available in the OOC thread. If you want to be someone besides a villain, then request it in the OOC thread.)

The two Gotham Police Department SWAT trucks finally made it to Gotham City Hall. As the night continued to loom, the city hall was dark with the exception of one lighted window, the window of the office of the mayor. The assassins came out the trucks and surrounded the building. At Ra's' signal, the assassins secretly cut through the glass windows using the stealth techniques of China to get inside the buildings.

Only one way to save Gotham, was to destroy it. In Ra's' mind, Gotham City had reached the pinnacle of it's civilization. It must be destroyed to return it to balance. One the assassins were in, they opened the front door for Ra's. Once they reached the second story, they found two security guards. Quickly and quietly, the assassins killed them by slitting their throats. Immediately, they barged into the mayor's office. The mayor, with an aide were alarmed. Ra's grabbed the mayor as his assassins killed the aide.

The Kronos building, a shining pearl on the Gotham City skyline. It was so deceptively simple that the Joker almost thought it was a.. joke. The Joker was lost in his own insane thoughts. His inky black sedan seemed to slip through the streets of Gotham, slowly but methodically making its way to the front of the Kronos building. Stepping up to the large doors that lead to the lobby, the Joker was surprised to see that they had been left unlocked.

What a lazy janitorial squad.. leaving their doors unlocked. Haha!

Taking a right turn, the Joker found himself at the elevator. Pushing the button that was labeled roof, the Joker waited, listening to the mild sounds of muzak while he rode the elevator from bottom to top. Hearing the tiny ding of the elevator reaching its destination, the Joker stepped through the doors as they slid open. Noticing another man atop the building, the sender of the letter no doubt, the Joker announced his presence.

"You don't seem quite the gathering here.. or not. Hahaha!" The Joker's laugh echoed off the stone and metallic edges of the rooftop. "Maybe you should have made your riddle easier, Riddler. Though for someone of my intelligence, it gave no trouble."

City hall was filled with the sound of ringing alarms. Clearly barging into the mayor's office with a small squadron of assassins and killing three people was not as easy as it sounded.

The guards gathered their handguns and rushed their way to Ra's al Ghul's location. They were just security guards, but they had notified the police. The three guards that had reached there pointed their weapons at the group, one at Ra's, one at the next assassin nearest the mayor and another was ready to fire at anyone who came close to their group. They were standing in the doorway, surveying the scene.

"Alright, party's over! I don't know what you're after, but put the mayor down! Now!"

Ra's looked at the guards. They seemed like normal security guards. By there response time, Ra's assumed he had triggered some silent alarm which now became a sound alarm now since it was not turned off. The police would soon be on there way. Some of the assassins their assault rifles trained at the security guards.

"Do you know who I am? I am Ra's al Ghul. I am sorry, but in order to save Gotham, it must be destroyed."

After saying that, the assassins launched smoke pellets into the room. In the smoke, the Ra's and the assassins jumped out a window with the mayor onto the ground below.

Edward did not turn around, and continued staring out over the smoggy Gotham skyline in the night's sky. The Joker spoke in his strange, insanely tipped voice. The green clad man replied, "I doubt anybody stupid enough not to work it out, could help us find the bat, don't you?" He took a full lung of the nasty air and as he exhaled he reached into his pocket and pilled out a silver cigarette case, unfitting for the hoody perhaps, but a trait of his vast wealth. From it he took a cigarette, offering one each to Query and Echo, first, who both obliged, and he lit the three, before finally turning around and offering the case to the white faced man. As he did, in the far distance, he heard a siren, "Ah...right on cue. The Bat will be roused, and Ra's will not get him. I do hope our collegues hurry; no Harley tonight?"

Mr Freeze walked his way though the winding staircases of the Krynos building, he felt a rather large shot of annoyance not only at himself and at the riddiler himself, for the last few days Freeze's mind was on other more important things but this Riddile reminded him that even a Genius was not perfect in every way, he kicked though the door the hinges coming off slightly as his booming footsteps reverberated around the night sky, and his eyesight was offended by the bright colours of the joker and riddler.

"Why have you invited me here with your loathsome riddle?"

Bold and to the point as always.
