Belasco is a watery planet located in the Expansion Region in close proximity to Republic, ISC, and Syndicate space. They are a secular people with a heavy focus on science, due in part to a septennial bacterial pathogen, governed by a parliamentary monarchy. Their main exports are biogenetic technology and seafood.
The planet is predominantly water with only a few large landmasses and several smaller ones, including an abundance of islands. The climate ranges from temperate to tropical--from sparse forests on large swathes of hilly terrain, to mountainous tropical islands. Belascan cities are usually mid-sized and centered around a university or water reservoir, with the exception of Senta and Comert (which are rather large).
Due to the AMS virus, traffic in and out of Belasco has slowed down immensely. Strict quarantine procedures have ensured their safety thus far, but it has cut trade in and out of the planet by quite a bit. All visitors to the planet or returning Belascans are required to submit to a health screening, and foreigners have been temporarily disallowed from studying at Belascan universities or visiting resorts.

GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
Conservation and science are two important parts of Belascan culture, in part due to the planet’s septennial, water-borne bacterial pathogen. Belasco prepares for it by stockpiling water for usage while its scientists contain the bacteria. As a result, Belasco has been at the forefront of microbiology and biochemistry in the galaxy, with advanced academic studies in epidemiology, genetic technology, and natural resource conservation. They are a very academically-included, science-focused, and due diligent people that value equality and individualism. While not isolationist, they have historically been more concerned with themselves than others.
Belascan individualism is another staple of their culture. Belascans are incredibly individualistic, so much so that comparing one to another can often times be seen as offensive. They address each other by their title and then first name (i.e. King Armond, Prime Minister Celeste), as they believe someone's first name should hold more weight than their family name.
Academically, Belascans are afforded many benefits. Education is free to pursue on Belasco, with exceptions only for foreigners and those pursuing their doctorates. It is not uncommon for the more academically-inclined to receive two, or even three, degrees.
Traditional Belascan culture was long pushed out by secularism, but a few staples of the past remain. The Auguan festival is held every seven years after the bacterial outbreak, and the Festival of the Moons is an annual celebration of the new year. Both of these festivals are popular times to get traditional tattoos, Belascan proverbs written in Belasci (the dead, native language of Belasco).
The government of Belasco is a parliamentary monarchy. The parliament side includes elected officials, law-makers, and other politicians. The monarchy consists of the royal line and is mostly just a face for the planet. Ambassadors for Belasco are traditionally royal, despite the role being open to those outside the bloodline.
The Prime Minister serves in seven-year terms, generally beginning two years after the previous bacterial outbreak. They have no term limit and are voted into their seat by the members of the parliament.
CURRENT MONARCH: King Armond Belasi
CURRENT PRIME MINISTER: Celeste Marrion
The Belascan economy is self-sufficient for the most part, with their only major imports being technology and luxury items. Their major exports are seafood, biogenetic technology, oil and salt. Because Belasco has low access to mineral materials due to the majority of their planet being covered in water, they have several mines on their moon Minat to make up for this.

Intent: My intent to to expand upon the sparse canon lore for Belasco in order to give the planet more history and meaning as well as to give the planet flavoring that can be used in roleplay.
