DESCRIPTION
The Bendu is the standard for long range cargo movement smaller than that of gigantic long range bulk haulers that clog the space lanes. It boasts a significant amount of cargo space, as well as a long range communications system and modern hyperdrive and navigation system, easing long range travel. The ships can be operated in a limited capacity with a three man crew in a pinch- a pilot and co-pilot, along with a sensor and communications operator- but optimal complement is a six man crew, which includes a dedicated gunner for the single turret (although this weapon can also be clumsily operated from the weapons and defensive systems station in the cockpit, another crew position) and a load master for securing and inspecting cargo.

Since the ship is specifically designed for long distance, the crew accommodations are surprisingly comfortable, with the Captain and First mates cabins being spacious and well appointed. There are four passenger cabins in the standard configuration, with each coming equipped with two fold down bunks. Many Captains double their crew into two cabins and reserve the other two for ferrying passengers to maximize profits. The ships galley is well equipped, and the space between the cockpit and cargo bay accommodates a machine shop/secondary storage area, and a comfortable common room. Variations exist, including more heavily armed versions adapted by pirates, and shuttle variants used to transport passengers instead of cargo.

LEGALITY
Legal. An extremely common civilian ship on the market.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Bendu freighters, unlike some smaller types, are for serious pilots only. Most are owned by fleet-operating freight companies, not individuals. Owner-operators of these vessels are successful long time smugglers and independent operators who have saved up for their investment in this craft... Or got lucky and won it in a game of Pazaak.
