The news updates currently streaming to Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network will cease until the game's last DLC release, and right before Mass Effect 3 is unleashed.

Mass Effect 2 launched with a menu interface that included the Cerberus Network, which was more than a system for BioWare to let players know they could buy DLC. It also provided news updates about happenings in the Mass Effect universe, but according to the latest those updates will cease in a few weeks.

The current Cerberus Network story says that daily postings will end on January 24, except for during three significant weeks. "A week of posts will precede a downloadable content release, and two more weeks will lead up to the release of Mass Effect 3," it says.

This confirms that BioWare still has another DLC pack in the works for Mass Effect 2, but unfortunately there aren't any details available. BioWare has released all sorts of free and for-pay content through the Cerberus Network already, including characters like Zaeed and Kasumi, new weapons and armor, and entire mission packs such as Lair of the Shadow Broker, the Network's most recent release.

Mass Effect 2 project director Casey Hudson already confirmed that DLC would bridge the gap between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, so this message could actually hint toward at least two more Mass Effect 2 DLC packs. Mass Effect 3 is currently scheduled for release in the holiday season of 2011, with its first trailer revealed at the 2010 Spike TV VGAs. No time frame was given for the pre-pre-Mass Effect 3 DLC though, so it could be available in a few months, or not until closer to the end of 2011. We'll let you know.

Edit: For clarification purposes, BioWare is only shutting down the regular news updates it's been adding to the Cerberus Network, not the ability to enjoy Mass Effect 2's DLC.

My only question is: can we get present DLC still? I plan on getting an EA card to get it, and I would be rather pissed if I didn't get Lair of the Shadow Broker and Kasumi: Stolen Memory even though I found a way to get it without using a credit card.:CStern

First off, shame on you for missing out when it was on sale last week for practicaly a steal price.

Second,

That means, I believe, you can still get the DLC and such.

I don't use credit cards online. Call me crazy, but I prefer gamecards. Do you think I enjoyed watching the 2K bundle on Steam go by for just 80 bucks, with Borderlands and all its dlc included? Now that I know the dlc will still be available, I shall stop being worried.

Crossing my fingers for a few DLC weapons like a semi-auto shotty and revolver.

...I don't play Mass Effect 2 for the shooter gameplay. I play it for the story and moral depth. Weapon DLC packs really seem pointless to me. It's like if they made DLC for the horse you get in AC2. It sounds incredibly beside the primary point, imo.

I play ME for that reason too, but Weapons are basically the primary weapons in the series. If they never released a single DLC weapon, I'd be dissapointed and glad they did release atleast about 8 weapons.

Though Johnny, I don't know how a semi-auto shotgun would go, though they do have a semi-auto SMG, Sniper Rifle and Assault Rifle... and I would love a revolver type weapon.
