On the storm shrouded world of Dromund Kaas, was the Sith Academy where Maerae had spent most of her days as an acolyte. Its hallowed halls were known to her, as she had trained in them, bled in them, and learned to hate in them. Her instructors had been efficient, but cruel. Mistakes were met with pain, and trials were to be passed under the threat of death. In spite of everything, she still drew breath. She hadn't displeased her teachers enough to be slain.

But neither had she impressed them, beyond what she could do with a lightsaber.

Other students were more cunning, had stronger connections to the Force, or were more in tune with the Dark Side. They had impressed other Sith enough to rise to the rank of Champion, or be taken on as apprentices by true Sith. Maerae had yet to accomplish those things herself.

To begin rectifying this, Maerae had found a dark corner in one of the vast hallways, far from any of the usual entrances to the academy. She sat cross-legged, eyes closed, and with her lips drawn in a thin line. Her lightsaber floated before her, in pieces. The emitter, switch, grip; all of it was disconnected and slowly swirling in the air in front of her.

But those were largely unimportant. Though maintaining enough focus to levitate each individual piece was part of what she was trying to do, her real goal lay in the small blue kyber crystal that hovered in front of her face. Pure. Light. Uncorrupted by the Dark Side, despite her trials and tribulations.

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion..." Maerae muttered to herself.

She thought of all the times her instructors had dealt her punishments. The fear she'd felt. The anger. She hated most of their faces more than she'd ever hated anything before in her life. The rage that boiled in her veins was the most intense of her emotions. She tried to project that; tried to press those dark feelings into the blue crystal in front of her.

But nothing. As always, it remained a beautiful blue.

Dragus walked around the Sith Academy aimlessly, it would likely be a long time before he would return to its hallowed grounds, therefore he believed he should take one last stroll through it before departing. It was important to remember once's origins of course. He was adjusting the collar of his Sith officer uniform as he found himself standing in close proximity to a young human female, currently concentrating on her lightsaber.

Dragus observed her for a while, not wanting to disturb her in her concentration. After a while and seeing nothing of note happening just yet he approached her. "Through passion, I gain strength." He smiled faintly as he waited for a response. "Forgive my intrusion madam, I saw you on my stroll and I thought I would approach. What is it you are trying to do?" He said motioning towards her lightsaber. "A gorgeous lightsaber I must say." He again smiled faintly, but only time would tell her if he was being sincere.

Levin had spent the past days and weeks ferrying himself around the galaxy, adventuring and venturing with little to show for it. An aimless journey, he had relented upon boarding his freighter before setting a course to Dromund Kaas. Playing my music as I had…but now the music makes the ears bleed.

That was then, this was now, but he walked the halls of the academy dwelling on it all the same. He wore his walnut brown robes, hood pulled up, a kind of Chevin standard, and paced the floor with his hands clasped within sleeves.

In those moments, Levin Mumak felt less like a living being and more like a moving statue. Passion and power bounced off the walls, reverberating right through his chest and heart, head and mind, and truly the being’s size and build meant nothing in comparison.

He was not alone. Others walked the Sith grounds for not much more reason than to keep from standing, to keep feet from being glued to ground, so it was far from unusual for Levin to cross paths with such a soul.

That one wore a Sith officer’s uniform as he approached a dark corner, and that dark corner was also the norm around here. A Sith sat at it, something of a standard when it came to Sith sitting in the dark, so fair enough.

The Chevin made his way over to the pair, stood before them, caught himself. He had just become what he had attempted to avoid: a statue standing so silent, so still, peering through the dark toward two others.

"The Force shall free me." Levin jumped right to the end there, piggybacking off of the male Sith. Freedom appeared to be in the grasp of the female, though, the way the fragments of her lightsaber floated freely. Hmmm.

Maerae had been so fully invested in bleeding the crystal in front of her, that she hadn't heard the two newcomers approaching. Their footsteps echoed down the hall, but had fallen on deaf ears. What she did hear, however, was them finish her reciting of the Sith Code. Her eyes snapped open, and her lightsaber clattered to the ground in pieces. She managed to catch the crystal, before it could join the rest of the wreckage.

She looked up to chastise the acolytes who had bothered her. But the two men who stood before here were far from acolyte. Immediately, Maerae switched positions: from sitting cross-legged, to kneeling before her two betters. Her head was bowed, and her eyes stared at the disassembled pieces of her lightsaber below.

"My Lords, forgive me, I did not hear you approach."

Her voice wasn't pleading, or panicked. It was... flat. Stoic. Even though she felt fear run itself down her spine, she refused to show it. Showing weakness to Sith was like bleeding in shark infested waters. Maerae hadn't lived this long without learning how to avoid such things.

"I was attempting to bleed my kyber crystal," Maerae opened her palm, revealing a beautiful blue crystal, but kept her head bowed.

As her eyes traced the fabric of her robes pooling around her, she awaited a response from the two Sith standing before her.

Dragus looked at the woman with a mixture of amusement and curiosity as she knelt and apologised to him and the apparent newcomer, whom Dragus found...Interesting to say the least, he had not encountered a Chevin Sith before and looked at the creature with interest and give him a small nod and a smile. "I do not believe we have met before, I would think I would recall a Chevin sith, What is your name?"

As he waited for a response from the newcomer, he turned his attention back to the young woman in front of him. Dragus softly put a hand on the woman's shoulder. "No need to apologise, nor kneel, please rise." Dragus noticed that, while the woman was apologising and kneeling, she did not sound scared, no she sounded monotone. She was either trying to hide her emotions or had them on a tight leash.

Dragus observed the crystal for a moment before extending an open hand.
"May I?" He said gesturing towards the crystal. He had bled his crystal years ago, it had not taken him long to do so, but he knew of some of his fellow acolytes back in the day who had more trouble with it, perhaps he could assist this young woman, and make an ally along the way, she seemed somewhat useful.

Dragus smiled at her faintly, his bright green eyes were staring straight into hers, his gaze was nonchalant but at the same time slightly intimidating. "I remember when I bled my crystal, some of my fellow acolytes had trouble with it as well, would you like me to try and help you?"

At the sight of a kneeling Acolyte, Levin tilted his head, or tried to in what way a member of his species could. Like his counterpart Champion, the Chevin found the entire display curious, though not really amusing. Proper though, perhaps. I still have to get used to the decorum of the Sith Order.

“Levin Mumak,” he answered the other male. “We indeed have not met before.” He looked a moment longer in place of asking for the man to reveal his own name. Dragus moved to bring the female upright; a gesture that Levin would otherwise have overlooked.

The entire event was quite curious still, and the Chevin Sith was quite content with standing still and silent once again. Truth be told, he found lightsabers to be symbols at best. No match for two hands and the power that either promotes.

“Please proceed.” Levin barely acknowledged that he was speaking for the woman, not that it mattered. She had a mind of her own, that much was certain, though she was not alone in that regard.

“Bleed the crystal. Show me, show us, your technique.”

The human Sith looked to be, well, standard fare as far as her Order went. Not that that was a bad thing, of course. But the other individual... Maerae hadn't even been familiar with his species, until the other human had spoken. The young acolyte didn't believe in all that "human supremacy" garbage that past Sith had insisted upon. The most powerful were the most fit to be Sith, and that was that.

Even so, Levin was a strange sight.

Maerae rose, as she was bid to do. She held out her hand, presenting the beautiful crystal to the Sith in front of her. If it was taken from her, as she thought this man was wont to do, her hands would then clasp themselves behind her back. She remained quiet as the two- Champions? She thought they were Champions- men conversed with one another.

Then Levin asked to see her attempt bleeding the crystal once more.

"Of course, My Lord."

When Dragur saw fit to return the crystal, she would reach out her hand. Then, closing her eyes, she would levitate the little jewel in front of her and prepare to try bleeding it once more. She tried to think of all the things that she'd ever hated, or feared, or reviled: her instructors, the way her parents had abandoned her to the Sith, all the beatings she'd ever received.

The crystal trembled in the air, and then... then there were visions. Of what could have been? She saw herself with two figures she couldn't really describe, but knew they were meant to be her parents. Maerae saw another image: herself donned in brown robes, wielding a lightsaber that wasn't her own, with a beautiful blue blade.

Then there was a sort of screaming in her head, and without warning, Maerae was blown back into the wall. The kyber crystal fell to the ground. Maerae hit the metal behind her so hard that the air was driven out of her, and she coughed and sputtered as she picked herself up.

Dragus gave a small nod to Levin and showed a hint of a polite smile. "Dragus Jakar, Sith Champion. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Dragus took the crystal from the woman and examined it for a moment. "Perfectly blue...You will need to bleed this, acolyte, wouldn't want us to mistake you for a Jedi now do you?" Dragus' eyes pierced into Maerae's and did so for a long while, he looked as if he was trying to read her mind before a small smile suddenly crept on his face and he handed the crystal back. "I'm sure you'll bleed it eventually."

Dragus observed the woman's actions, looking at her concentration and the floating crystal in front of him. He waited patiently for it to bleed, but to his surprise, the crystal saw the young woman blown back against the wall. Dragus glanced at Levin for a moment and then bent down to pick up the young woman's crystal. "Interesting...Still blue."

He stood up and stared at the young woman. "Are you alright, Acolyte?"

Levin focused intently as the Acolyte began to bleed the crystal once more, all this just a show and the Chevin just a member of the audience. He knew intimately that position, that feeling.

One on the stage, one among the audience, watching and listening as the musicians beat their drums and strum their strings.

This, however, was a display like no other. Out of nowhere, the Acolyte was flown into the wall. Again, an individual like Levin might have mistaken it for a guitarist leaping backward off the stage, but there was no crowd to catch her.

Levin met Dragus’ glance, wondering if that Human was thinking the same thing as the Chevin. A failure. Not the Acolyte but the attempt. Failures, though, are made to succeed. Whether the female Sith was all right or not, she had merely stumbled on a step meant to be overstepped.

“What is your name?” Levin asked after Dragus’ question, looking between the unbled crystal to the woman who would yet bleed it. There was purpose in his own question: the Chevin had long learned to associate names with meanings, and he only knew of the man’s.

"Through strength, I gain power." Levin elected to backtrack and recite the third line of the Sith Code that he had previously bypassed. "That power which throws you into a wall makes you...stronger...so try again. This time, focus your hate, rage, fear and pain on whatever it is that you see...and see nothing else."
