I remember when bots had the screen names of simple letters and numbers. It was painfully obvious who was a bot when surfing chatrooms. It wasn't long though until they got names. I remember the first named bot that I ever saw: Ashley. Like a wildfire they spread from chatrooms to sites, general IM, et cetera. Over the years they've become quite sophisticated though. I just ran into a bot and was quite impressed.
