DESCRIPTION

"That was the first night we heard their drums in the darkness. We found what was left of Kovacs a few days later, well - what was left of him. You see, they shoot from the trees, in almost total silence, through the cracks in your armour. Ain't now training sim gonna prepare you for that." - ST-987, 501st Legion

The 'bow and arrow' was a primitive weapon used for hunting, sport and even combat. Mostly fashioned out of wood, more advanced versions could be found crafted out of metal - however, this was normal for aesthetic purposes. An ancient design used for thousands of years before the introduction of blaster and slugthrower technology, many primitive races still make use of the bow and arrow to exceptional effect.

A bow was normally made out of wood, with stone or metal enhancements, or durable lightweight metals depending on the material available. Owing to basic physics, however, the advanced nature of the materials made no difference to the weapons range - sometimes simpler was better, with flexible wood being just as effective as advanced metals.

The user's strength affected the range and stopping power of the weapon, with the range thus varying between 30 and 66 meters. Trained bowmen could meet the upper limit of the range with reasonable ease. Firing almost silently, the bow shot single 'quarrels' at a time, being reloaded manually, and firing with a deft 'whooshing' sound - on some worlds, the only warning of an incoming arrow was the sound of horns in the trees.

LEGALITY
This weapon is entirely legal, however, on worlds that limit open carry, it would need to be carried in a case.

INTENT
To bring over a trademark weapon from canon into the site canon.
