DESCRIPTION
The Brayl-class bulk cruiser/freighter is a large multi-role transport manufactured by the SoroSuub Corporation of Sullust. Produced in 2 variants, the armed bulk cruiser and the unarmed bulk freighter, Brayl-class transports are popular with cargo transport services, military logistics agencies and systems looking for a cheap, reliable patrol ship to enforce customs and deter piracy.

The most common variant of the Brayl-class transport is the bulk freighter, which has a crew of 7, plus space for 14 passengers and 75,000 tons of cargo. This variant is totally unarmed, allowing it to skirt most laws regarding large vessels. The less common variant, the armed bulk cruiser, has a crew of 14, 7 passengers, space for 50,000 tons of cargo, 2 dual heavy laser casemates for dealing with medium to large size enemies, and 4 dual light laser turrets for fending off smaller, nimbler craft. Both variants have 3 months worth of consumables, a top speed of 30 MGLT, a class 3 hyperdrive and medium deflector shields.

Overall, the Brayl-class transport has come to be widely used, being a low-cost option for smaller system defense forces unable to purchase or maintain dedicated capital ships, and even for wealthier system and sector military and police agencies who need large numbers of ships that do not require the specialized upkeep of most warships. The Sullustan Home Guard notably uses the bulk cruiser type to patrol the space around their system.

Of course, many private interests use the type, especially large shipping firms. Typically, the unarmed variant is preferred, however a number of specialist agencies use the bulk cruiser, especially when operating in more dangerous areas. Similarly, pirates and other criminals have learned that it is relatively simple to convert bulk freighter variants into bulk cruisers with off-the-shelf weapons, although this is highly illegal without proper licensing.

LEGALITY
Legal/restricted. In its bulk freighter configuration, the Brayl is considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems. The bulk cruiser variant, due to its heavy weapons, is generally restricted from civilian ownership without proper licensing, however.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from Legends into our site's canon.

RESTRICTIONS
The bulk freighter variant of the Brayl-class transport is not restricted. The bulk cruiser variant, however, would generally be a faction asset, or may be owned by at least 2 characters jointly.
