Brotherhood of Equilibrium

The Brotherhood of Equilibrium or simply known as the Brotherhood is an ancient monastic balance-keeping secret organisation unified in their belief of equilibrium in the Force. This organisation specialises in covert ops and this is how they manage to bring balance to the galaxy.

The Brothers and Sisters are the guardians of balance in the known galaxy and are highly trained individuals, equal to the Jedi and Sith, who uses both the Light and Dark Side of the Force to enforce their chosen religion, the Way of the Brother, which is a belief system which emphasises that balance in the Force will bring about prosperity in the universe. Due to the secretive nature of the organisation there will never be more than five hundred members in the Brotherhood. This is to ensure that the Brotherhood remains a secret as it becomes more difficult to keep track of advanced numbers.

The Brotherhood's enclave is located on the planet of Trogan, in the system of its namesake located in the Outer Rim Territories. Its location is ideal as it is on the boarder of the now Sith Empire and the Galactic Alliance. Known for it's harsh climate, the planet does not have a large population. This is ideal for the Brotherhood for they have taken a small island in the middle of the ocean which is, thus uninhabited except for wild grazing animals that propagate on the planet.

The enclave has a dormitory where most Brothers and Sisters made their home, a mess hall where members could receive meals, and a quad which was used as an assembly and general meeting area for members. The building also has classrooms and training areas where young and old studied under the supervision of the Head Instructor, an infirmary for those ill or injured during duty under the supervision of the Head Pharmacist and a library where all the Brotherhood's history and lore was kept under the supervision of Head Archivist. The Council Chambers were located at the back of the enclave underground where the faction's leaders came together to discuss the happenings and future of the Brotherhood.

The Brotherhood has three CR90 Corvette-class ships: the Enigma IX, the Omnibus VII and the Dread III. They also possess a dozen CR25 Troop Carriers in the event that the Corvette-class ships were in orbit or indisposed. Additionally the Brotherhood has half a dozen squadrons of HLAF-500 Starfighters to act as support or reconnaissance units if needed. These ships are docked and maintained in a hanger under the enclave itself thus saving on operational costs. They are seldom used but when needed the small fleet has crews, pilots and mechanics of force-sensitive individuals waiting to be of assistance.

The Brotherhood has an unknown benefactor, who is rumoured to be a Senator or a retired CEC executive, whose identity is only known by those in the High Council; that provided their small fleet and the limited resources they have available to them. The rest of their funds they receive from missions and as a result the faction is always busy and pushing to keep their resources above operational costs.

History

The Brotherhood of Equilibrium is a hidden sect of force-sensitive individuals that believe balance in the Force is cardinal to the survival of the galaxy. Known as Brothers or Sisters these force-sensitive individuals draw their power from both sides of the Force which enabled them to masquerade around the known universe as representatives of the Jedi and Sith respectively without the two factions knowing the better.

The Brotherhood have been in the galaxy prior to the fall of the Old Republic and had an unknown hand in the ascension of the Galactic Empire, its inevitable reformation to the New Republic, and finally into the Galactic Alliance we live in today. They have crossed paths with both the Jedi and the Sith throughout their history and as a result had to eliminate some of them due to the necessity of having to take over their missions so that it can be manipulated to enforce equilibrium.

They go through the galaxy manipulating the very future of the universe even though they only make subtle changes while pretending to be either Jedi or Sith to engage in things like signing an alliance treaty and going on assassination missions that will work against any dominant super power in the galaxy. As a result of Jedi and Sith disappearing and reports on their missions mysteriously failing reached the ears of these organisations.

Both factions had their suspicions of a third party being involved but since they never shared this information with each other the Brotherhood's involvement could never be proven. It was eventually assumed that their counterparts were the cause of failed missions.

Beliefs

"There is no Good, there is no Evil. There are only Perceptions. There is no Light, there is no Dark. There are only Shades of Grey. Where there is Balance, there is the Force. This is the Way of the Brotherhood." Brotherhood Devotees reciting the Way of the Brotherhood chant.

The Brotherhood follows a religion called the Way of the Brotherhood which entails equilibrium as the solution to every problem known to the universe. Practitioners of this religion believes that right and wrong is perceived differently from conflicting parties and that it requires a third party who can be unbiased to resolve matters. They believe balance in the Force will lead to prosperity in the galaxy and that there should never be just one dominant super power in the universe but instead two to keep each other in check and a third to keep them both in check from the shadows.

The members of the sect is not as compassionate as the Jedi and yet not as cruel as the Sith. Willing to kill those that needs to be killed; the Brotherhood is not beyond sparing those willing to conform to their ideals and keep the secret of their organisation away from prying eyes. To insure this, these individuals are placed under surveillance to be sure they adhere to their agreement with the Brotherhood.

Brothers and Sisters use both sides of the Force, Light and Dark, and as a result has an competitive edge over the Jedi and Sith kin with using the Force and in lightsaber combat.

Hierarchy

The Brotherhood has five initial ranks that can be achieved with six additional specialisation classes to follow. Each rank and specialisation class has its own unique way to be obtained. There are three ways to be promoted in the Brotherhood. The first is requesting a promotion where after the Covenant of Revenants will deliberate whether or not to grant it. Second is being nominated by senior Shadow Agent for a promotion which will also be subject to the Covenant's consideration. Finally if the Revenants deem a Shadow Agent worthy of being promoted they will do so after notifying the Shadow Agent in question.

Shades

Shade is the lowest rank within the Brotherhood. They are accepted into the Brotherhood by the age of six and trained until the age of sixteen when they will be eligible to become Spectres under the tutelage of a Stalker.

They are considered as the children of the Brotherhood and thus are protected by their seniors. They will almost never be found without the supervision of another Shadow Agent as they represent the future of the Brotherhood and are considered priceless to their kin.

Spectres

Spectre is the second rank within the Brotherhood. Shades usually achieve the rank of Spectre at the age of sixteen when they are taken under the tutelage of a Stalker. Upon attaining the rank of Spectre; Shadow Agents receive a traditional tribal tattoo on their left shoulder and upper-arm area.

They are considered the teenagers of the Brotherhood. Even though they are still protected by their peers and seniors; Spectres are given more freedom and responsibility. They are required to not just accompany their mentors on missions but are also allowed to lead a group of Shades on less important and dangerous missions by themselves.

Stalkers

Stalker is the third rank within the Brotherhood. Spectres usually achieve the rank of Stalker at the age of twenty-six when the have completed their tutelage under a mentor. Upon attaining the rank of Stalker; Shadow Agents extend their tattoos with males tattooing the left side of their upper-back and chest while females only extend the tattoo to the left side of their upper-back.

They are considered the young adults of the Brotherhood. Now in possession of their own student; Stalkers spend the majority of their time nurturing their charges and acting as the main resource of the Brotherhood. They receive a measure of freedom to do almost anything they want just as long as their actions do not negatively influence the galaxy or slander the name of the Brotherhood and are burdened with the heavy responsibility of being at the Covenant's beck and call.

Specialisation Classes

Once Shadow Agents attain the rank of Stalker; they will have the option of following down the path of one of the three specialisation classes and their promotions.

Eliminator/Executioner

dG1wcGhwdnl1WXNWLmpwZw.jpg

Stalkers who wish to follow down the path of the blade will be known as Eliminators. Eliminators who obtain the rank of Wraith will advance to Executioners.

They are known for being excellent assassins. These individuals focus more on refining the art of the blade than on their knowledge of the Force and skills. Eliminators often go on assassination and demolition missions.

Eliminators are expected to have master proficiency in one lightsaber form, moderate in two and minimum in a fourth while Executioners are expected to have master proficiency in two lightsaber forms, moderate in two and minimum in a fifth.

They can't have master proficiency in more than one aspect of the Force and minimum in the others while having master proficiency in one of the seven mainstream skills, moderate in another and minimum in a third.

Wraith is the highest rank within the Brotherhood. Stalkers usually achieve the rank of Wraith at the age of thirty-six after having successfully mentored a Spectre into a Stalker. Upon attaining the rank of Wraith; Shadow Agents extend their tattoos a final time thus covering the rest of their left arm.

Wraiths are considered the adults of the Brotherhood. They are charged with being instructors and lecturers in classes for Shade groups when not on missions for the Brotherhood. When sent into action, however, Wraiths go only on the most important and dangerous missions that other Shadow Agents can't undertake. Wraiths are some of the most powerful Shadow Agents in the Brotherhood and thus often go on missions alone.

Revenants

Revenant is a title used to describe a Wraith that is currently serving a term on the Covenant of Revenants. These individuals are considered the wisest and most powerful Shadow Agents in the Brotherhood of Equilibrium.
