DESCRIPTION
The BTS-A2 H-Wing is a long-range escort and strike starfighter originally produced by Koensayr Manufacturing for the New Republic, shortly after the end of the Galactic Civil War. Designed to replace the BTL-A4 Y-Wing, it proved an excellent machine, although it sadly never saw anything like the same production numbers as its predecessor.

The H-Wing is a compact, well-equipped vessel, 17.1 meters in length with a crew of 3, plus 1 passenger. The crew consists of a pilot, a turret gunner and a bombardier, who respectively control the medium laser turret mounted dorsally amidships and the vessel's twin torpedo launchers and fixed ion cannons. Top speed is 80 MGLT, 10 MGLT faster than the Y-Wing, with a class 1 hyperdrive; unlike the Y-Wing, however, the H-Wing makes use of a conventional navicomputer rather than an onboard astromech. Maneuverability is not appreciably better than the Y-Wing, although a skilled pilot might be able to hold their own.

Of note, cargo capacity has been doubled compared to the Y-Wing, reaching 220 kilograms of stowage. Befitting its long-range role, the H-Wing also has a large volume of consumables aboard, allowing operations lasting up to a month in space.

The main shortcoming of the H-Wing is its control layout. Though responsibilities are nicely spread out among the large crew, the controls are not duplicated at every station. Should the turret crewbeing be injured or killed, for example, the pilot or secondary gunner have no means by which to remotely control the turret.

H-Wings were manufactured and sold just after the end of the Galactic Civil War, and served primarily in their intended long-range escort role, defending heavy starbomber formations and supply convoys making their way through dangerous regions of the Galaxy. Though highly successful in this capacity, and in secondary roles as a long-range tactical strike craft and anti-ship platform, they were never plentiful in New Republic service, especially after the pruning of the military that characterized the later postwar years.

In the present day, H-Wings are rare to find in flyable condition, most having been relegated to museums or the scrap heap. They remain solid, capable combat craft, however, capable of going toe-to-toe with modern designs.

LEGALITY
Restricted. BTS-A2 H-Wings are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
