Ruus'all Solus had finally gone soft! He was assigned to teach some kid how to fight like a Mando and he was actually genuinely excited about it. Most days Ruus would've done anything to get out of the Temples on Yavin and hangout elsewhere throughout the galaxy. It wasn't that he didn't like being a Jedi, he just thought that it was easier to show the galaxy that you were a protector if you actually went and protected people and whatnot. A Mando's soul reflected his actions and Ruus'all hoped his was shining bright. Hopefully, the new kid's soul would, too. Ruus hadn't ever met the kid or even learned his name, but he was excited about the lesson nonetheless.

Somewhere deep in the jungles of Yavin, in a cleared out ruin perfect for fighting in, the class was about to begin.
"Alright, bud, let's just jump right into this." Ruus folded his arms as he looked over his new pupil. "I am Knight Solus- do not call me master. It makes me feel old. I'm not old, heheh, not yet." The Mando-Jedi then jumped into his starting position. Martial arts could save your life if you knew what you were doing and hopefully the newbie was ambitious as Ruus was when he was a Padawan.

"Show me what you've got, greenie!" Ruus challenged, grinning immensely from behind his T-visor. "No lightsabers. We'll start with molding your body into a weapon first. Then we'll move onto blasters."

Before you can protect anyone else, you must learn how to protect yourself, and how to overcome your own weakness.’ It was something Melo’ia had told him once. He had disagreed, saying that it was simply the act of trying to save that mattered. But the recent battle on Yavin had made him think differently. It was ‘nice’ to train. He had learned a lot from books, had an athletic body, and the foundations for hand to hand, lightsaber combat, tactics and the like drilled into him. But that was all it had been, the FOUNDATIONS. It was worthless in its current state. He had the raw materials, now he needed to mold it into shape, and then fire it through experience until it was truly useful. Who better to help him mold than a Mandalorian?

His crystalline green eyes glanced at the clearing, he took note of any roots, rocks, or other pitfalls, the general shape of it, and anything else that may be of use. Finally, his eyes settled on the armored Mandalorian in front of him. To say he was intimidated was an understatement. The young man took a deep breath, and slowly let it out as he connected his mind to what was all around him. “Understood Knight Solus. Thank you for teaching me.” The boy gave a bow of respect to the man. “I am Jaysen Torra.

Once the nervousness settled down a little, he moved up and entered a basic starting form. He knew little that would be useful against an armored opponent. He had a few ideas to try, but honestly…It was most likely not going to work! That was why he was here though. His hands raise up, and rather than make a fist, he has open palms. The boy’s green eyes shone with determination. Sometimes you had to get thrown around like a rag doll before you could figure out what to do to stop it. “Don’t go easy on me, I won’t learn a thing otherwise.” For the moment, he didn’t strike, he analyzed the way the teacher’s body looked in his starting form. “As for being old. No clue with your helmet on. Could be ancient for all I know. But I’ll take your word for it.” The boy gave Solus a mischievous grin.

This kid was going to be great! His quick-witted comments and natural flare were going to be really fun to work with. Ruus'all was now wondering if Jaysen's skills were as prominent as his natural charisma. The Padawan asked for Ruus not go easy on him, which the Mandalorian wasn't going to do anyway, but that comment only earned a shrug before he lunged into action.

Ruus'all started with two quick punches aiming for the kid's gut before rapidly arching his legs up to kick Jaysen's throat in a quick succession of blows. If Ruus had predicted accordingly, Jaysen would've used his arms down to defend himself from the punches, leaving his face exposed almost perfectly in time for Ruus'all's rapid kicks.

It was important to have a defense just as solid as your offense in hand-to-hand combat and this first lesson was going to be on exactly that. If Jaysen could react fast enough to block or redirect Ruus'all's attacks, then the Padawan would be able to take down any Mandalorian.

As the fight began, Jaysen only knew a handful of things. First was the fact there being no way he could beat an armored opponent who had countless more experience than he did. While he had the same basic training as all Jedi, which included intense hand to hand training, it was nothing compared to pure experience. He also knew his fists couldn’t get through the plates; it would be a good way to break his hands. However, he was determined to fight as if this was real. Images of the battle of Yavin coursed through his mind. There could be no hesitation, this Mandalorian had agreed to teach him. Who better to teach you how to fight than one? He was honored.

He rushed head long into the punches, he didn’t even attempt to dodge or block. The fists hit his stomach and he saw white, he wanted to vomit, and the pain was intense. But he rushed forward all the same. He focused on the Force to keep himself conscious and threw his body weight towards the chest of the Mandalorian as he attempted the kick. (He would do it, even if the man didn’t follow through with the kick.) The armor of a Mando made them a tad top heavy, and he had to bet on that, and the surprise of it all. He attempted to tackle the Mandalorian to the ground despite the pain. If it worked, he would try his best to take the helmeted head of the man and bash it against the ground, in an effort to shake the brain, as it was the only thing he could think of to do to stun the man. If it didn’t work, he would try and use open palmed strikes at ANY part of the man’s form that wasn’t covered by the harder plates.

No matter what, even if it all failed, he stuck CLOSE to the Mandalorian, to limit how much force the man could put into his punches, and make it hard, if not impossible to kick. If this was a normal fight where bladed weapons were allowed, this would be suicide, but for now, it was all he had.

Ruus'all furrowed his brow after the kid sacrificed his body to tackle the Mando-Jedi. The Knight never carried a knife on him after creating his lightsaber, but he knew that every Mandalorian ever had at least one blade on hand that would've rendered Jaysen's attack useless. The point of the lesson was for the fight to be taken seriously, and the last thing you want to do in a real fight is take more blows than you need to.

It was all in one quick and fluid motion, as he fell to his back he used the momentum Jaysen created against the Padawan, using his legs to hoist him up into a back flip that would've thrown the kid of him. Ruus spun on one heel to face his opponent once again, this time waiting for the Padawan to strike first.

"You already died, kid. Start over. Keep your hands in front of your face, too. It'll make it easier to block or absorb your opponent's attacks."
