CENTRIST PARTY
The Centrist Party (CP) is a major political party within the New Republic Senate. It is represented by a red eye that greatly resembles the insignia once worn by the Nihil raiders.
PARTY PLATFORM
Broadly speaking, the Centrists desire a strong centralized government and a powerful military to protect the New Republic. The Centrists supported reinstating the Office of the Supreme Chancellor after years of unuse due to the position's last occupant turning the Old Republic into the Galactic Empire.
Centrist politicians were generally seen supporting policies that would strengthen the industries on major Core worlds like Balmorra, Corellia, Fondor, and Kuat. Restoring Coruscant to its pre-Imperial glory was also a major priority of the party, usually disguised under infrastructure initiatives.
In the past, the Centrists were staunchly set against the Jedi Order and any perceived alliance with them. However, that view has taken a turn under the leadership of Emil Ro, who made it part of the party's official platform to restore New Republic relations with the Jedi in opposition to the rapid expansionism of the Sith Eternal.
The Centrist Party is strictly anti-Sith and pro-Republic intervention in the event of a military invasion of a New Republic ally or New Republic Space itself.
The Centrists control a majority of the New Republic Senate after the Republic broke away from the Free Worlds Alliance, where much of their rival party—the Populist Party—found support.
CRITICISMS
Over a century ago, the Centrist Party were criticized for being "Imperialist," as many staunchly loyal Imperial worlds were members of the party. To some extent, this critique remains in the modern Centrist Party. However, Palpatine's return and the near destruction of the galaxy at the hands of the First Order has tempered the authoritarian sentiments in the party.
Critics of the modern Centrist Party have called them "Restorationists" for resurrecting much of the imagery and iconography of the Old Republic. This includes Centrist support for making Coruscant, not Chandrilla, the Republic's capitol. It also includes the party's warming stance towards the Jedi Order.
