A character from TCW is returning in the Rogue One film. I knew they would tie in the Onderonians somehow, but I expected it to be more in Rebels rather than a film. Maybe they'll bring Lux Bonteri back in Rebels?

Ah, but I'm rambling. I'm sure you'd rather hear who this character is. Well...

It's Saw Gerrera.

He hasn't aged well. O.O

A pretty minor nod to the animated series but it's something. Curious to see what all gets tied together down the road with rebels, movies, books, etc.

Not minor at all. As far as I can tell he might be a major character. Maybe not a main, but still.

The way they've described him, he'll probably be a major supporting character for Jyn's story. A reflection of what she could become if she's not careful.

I was more meaning that they picked what was a minor character from clone wars, while leaving out a lot of our favorites who would be fun to see.

Based on what Calus said in Rebels, Saw took a dark path after Onderon got freed. I wonder how they'll address that?

Lucasfilm told an interesting story after this news came out yesterday. Saw was originally created by George Lucas for the live-action TV series. When Lucas created the character, Saw was an extremist. He was like what we'll end up seeing in Rogue One. Lucas decided to include him in The Clone Wars to show his backstory, so audiences could see what Saw was like before he went extreme - but could still see hints of the extremist that was yet to come.

So the story development will likely be that Saw had a more intense view of how to fight the Empire. As a result, he's still part of the Rebel Alliance (his cell was the first of the ones that would eventually create the Rebellion) but he's somewhat disavowed by Mon Mothma and Bail Organa.

I like it already.

If Saw meets his end in this movie, how cool would it be if it was up against Darth Vader?

Vader is the reason Saw Gerrera is even a factor. In a sense, Vader is the reason that the Rebel Alliance exists. So it seems thematically fitting that if Saw was to die in this movie, it would be at the hands of one of the people who trained him to be a rebel in the first place.

There's even rumors that Vader is going to get severely fucked up in this movie, and he's in the glowing bacta tank we see in the trailer. And it will show why he was so much slower in Episode IV. How could would it be too if Saw is the reason for that?
