Karnas was, like most of his species, born on Gand. His parents quickly found out that he was force sensitive, and they hoped to become famous as the parents of one of the legendary findsmen. Thus, his parents offered him to the findsmen clan, whom happily accepted their offer. Karnas quickly showed potential as a findsman, and most members of his clan thought that he would become the strongest among them. However, in order to become the strongest, he would have to make sacrifices. At the age of 2, they had already exposed him to chemical baths and genetic manipulations in order to create knob-like growths on his exoskeleton. It meant that he would be far less agile, but he would be a great hand-to-hand combatant. It could be said that his entire youth had one purpose; make him ready for combat and war.
He received his first official orders at the age of 12. The orders were simple; use the rituals he learned to track down 'criminals'. Karnas tracked down many of these so called 'criminals', oblivious to the fact that these were good people, whom would be tracked down and murdered by his clan after he had located them. His clan eventually instructed him to assassinate a leader of a nearby village. Karnas managed to track the leader down with ease, but after having beaten his bodyguards, he couldn't finish the job. The fear in the man's eyes, it horrified him. He wouldn't be able to return to his clan without a trophy, showing that he had truly killed a living being. But he didn't want to return to his clan anyway, so he was left with a choice. Risk staying on Gand, where tracking him down would be easy, or leave the planet now he still could. Either way, once they found out about his inability to kill, they would come for him. It wasn't a choice after all, he had to leave.
The decade of training as a findsman proved to be very useful, because he already knew the necessary skills to survive in the galaxy. Members of his clan had gone after him, but he had managed to avoid them so far, although there were some really close calls. It took his clan three years to corner him, but their actions didn't go unnoticed. A young Jedi Knight happened to be near Karnas the moment his clan tried to kill him. The knight, unable to stand by and do nothing, saved Karnas his life. It didn't take long before the knight realized that Karnas was force sensitive. The knight asked Karnas to join him on his journey, and Karnas accepted his offer.
Of course, Karnas was too old to become a youngling. Despite this, he still tried to master the basics of the Force and became known as one of the better students in his year. There was however, one part of his training he refused to utilize: combat. Yes, he constructed a lightsaber and knew how to use it, but he had seen the devastating effects of violence and death. Even in his stages as a padawan, he was rarely seen with a lightsaber. He was a pacifist, not a warrior, or so he thought.
Karnas managed to become a knight while upholding his ideals. Fighting was never an option in his eyes, not even when diplomacy seemed to fail. Because of this mindset, the order sent him on a mission to Haruun Kal. Shortly after his arrival on Haruun Kal, something terrible happened. He felt it through the force; Tython, the beacon of light, was destroyed. His situation quickly became worse, for the mission happened to be a trap. His ship was blown up, and he was forced to flee deep inside the jungle. Haruun Kal was a dangerous place and Karnas was forced to let go of his ideals. He became more combat focused as the years passed by, fighting off many native humans and predators.
It took him nearly four years to escape from Haruun Kal, and an additional year to find his way back to the Jedi Order, now know as the Jedi Army. The jungles of Haruun Kal have left their mark, but Karnas is once again ready to faithfully serve the Jedi.
PERSONALITY
Despite being a Jedi, Karnas hasn't neglected his training as a findsman, and the culture of his people. Like most other gands, he is cautious, patient and slightly xenophobic. He doesn't feel obliged to refer to himself as 'this gand', despite being forsaken by his people. Instead, he just refers to himself as 'i', like most other beings in the galaxy. He generally feels like a disgrace to his clan and his species as a whole, thus he rarely talks about his youth, parents, clan or training. In fact, running away from his clan bothers him so much, that he often meditates on the matter. Did he make the right choices? Or should he never have left his planet?
This inner conflict goes further then just regretting his actions. He absolutely hates himself; because he crushed the hopes of his parents and his clan. He didn't even want to be a findsman, he didn't even want to be a gand at all. He would've rather been a human or near human, someone with a skin and the ability to move freely without being restricted by a genetically enhanced exoskeleton. He frequently feels trapped, and not being able to breathe air doesn't help either. It's the reason why he's fascinated by Twi'lek dancers and acrobats. He believes himself to be born to fight and kill, and it's exactly what his clan trained him to do for more than a decade. Karnas often tries to prove that he is not a tool meant for killing, and has therefore vowed to never take a life. Because of all his regret and inner conflict, he likes to spent his time alone to meditate.
Not only does he question his own actions, but he questions the actions of the order aswell. Karnas believes in the unifying force, patience and looking in the future, instead of the now. Especially during the galactic war between the Army of Light and the Sith Empire, does he question the principles of the Jedi. Despite his critism, he's a true pacifist and a very selfless person. He's strict, but friendly and he enjoys company a lot more than he makes it look like. He especially likes the company of animals and people whom look far from human, because he can relate to them. Humans rarely notice how discriminating the galaxy really is, but the non-human species often do.
The jungles of Haruun Kal have shown him how brutal nature is, and he has therefore developed somewhat of a warrior's mentality, which is strange for a former pacifist. His emphasis has shifted from philosophy to combat, and he's able to instantly turn his rather kind personality into a cold-hearted warrior should the need arise. However, this does bring him very close to the dark-side, and long battles may therefore permanently corrupt him.
ATTRIBUTES
Strengths
Karnas his life revolved around training to kill, and later to protect. For that reason, he became a guardian, reylying on trances, force acrobatics and his findsman training to protect the galaxy. The findsman had their own martial arts, which Karnas perfected by implementing the force in those techniques. Not only did he perfect the martial arts of his people, but also their tracking ability. Karnas is able to use the mist of Gand to track nearly anyone, if they aren't protected by other findsman or strong force shields. Karnas is only able to utilize this, if he knows his targets identity.
