So, I was looking to make a profile for my character's armor, but I know nothing about metals.

So, I'm looking for something lightweight and flexible, but durable and effective enough to ward off low level blaster fire, and offer some protection against heavier weapons, like vibroswords and small explosives. The metal wouldn't be dull, either. The armor would be reinforced in areas that wouldn't hinder him, like the head, the top of the gauntlets, along the arms, and legs, etc, but it would be a bit easier to pierce at the joints. Against lightsabers and heavy ballistics, it'd stand little chance.

And for the cloak, I'm looking for a very thin, flexible, fireproof plating. It doesn't have to be metal. And, if the fireprooofing isn't natural, that can be done later on by my character. I'd prefer it if it didn't soak up water, either. The cloak would be effective as a shield of sorts when needed, offering some mild protection from blaster fire, though it wouldn't last against much else, other than small weapons.

So, any ideas?

your average durosteel or plastisteel lined with duro, and a average synthweave really would cover all that easily.

Tony Stark is your guy.

The armour could be any number of things, a light cortosis weave maybe but Phrikarmour is what springs to mind.

As for the cloak, that sounds a little past the technology border and into uncharted realms in my opinion, but if you are smart about it and don't make it OP then it should be ok. You could always use a fireproof armour weave and coat it in a hydrophobic spray?

Yes, a weave of sorts is what I was thinking for the cloak.

And Empress, you obviously know what you're talking about, unlike me. :P

Alright, I'll look this stuff up after dinner.

Thanks guys.

Edit: Where can I find information on synthweave? I'm just finding synthweaving, but that's not yielding much information.

It is exactly what is sounds like, a synthetic material created by weaving armour fragments or strips into a fabric, maintaining flexibility but allowing partial protection.

Keep in mind that blasters are energy based weapons and an armor effective against them is likely to have some degree of effectiveness against lightsabers (considering both operate under a similar concept). The same can be said for armors that are good against ballistics, flak (which provides the majority of the damage for small explosive devices), etc.

As for fireproofing, doesn't sound too farfetched. However the combination you've specifically listed might be a little more difficult. Armorweave mesh does provide some protection against blaster fire and even lightsabers, but it is a mesh, so water is likely to get inside the fibers/mesh/weave and weigh it down. I would consider looking into some kind of a light rubber, possibly with a special coating for the added fire and/or blaster resistance. You'd be looking for some kind of heat retardant here, which shouldn't be too hard to find.

I suggest matrix armor. It's an armor weave.

There's also Titanium, if you're wanting a lightweight armor base. It also makes a good reinforcement material for other base metals.

Alright, thanks. I'll look this stuff up.

And rubber seems a bit odd. XP.
