Stagflation. Might've heard of it. Bad stuff, man, bad stuff.

Upper class taxes and massive increase in Cold war defense spending screwed up the economy, and all of those were Reagan's doing.

Hardcore Conservative policies are economy-killers. They're completely irrational and only benefit the rich. Even the country takes a hit.

Ractic, many of the economic problems from the Reagan years were Reagan's fault. Trickle-down economics was a completely incompetent concept to try and use. It failed miserably and only helped to further hurt the economy.

Explain to me, then, why unemployment was down, inflation decreased, the Stock Market prospered, the GDP was almost as high as post-WW2 records, and a vast majority of citizens were relatively well off financially during Reagan's presidency or after he left office, if his economic policies 'failed miserably'?

All of those are due to massive spending. Reagan raised the national debt from 700 billion to 3 trillion. Quite a legacy.

By the way, it's kinda ironic that Reagan would consider himself a conservative considering that he dramatically increased spending.

I guess handing out money to defense contractors=conservatism and spending on healthcare= omgsocialism?

EDIT: Also, if you'd like to continue arguing, I'd suggest starting another thread. This is getting off topic.

Yes, he did increase the national debt. FDR increased the national debt as well to pay for WW2 and look at his legacy. The debt went up, but wasn't it worth it? Stock market growth, more jobs, inflation was curtailed, and the Soviet Union collapsed.

And I prefer the term "debating"; it sounds much friendlier. :) But either way, I'll gladly cease now. It is far too off-topic.

Actually employment increased proportional to the population growth.
