This was good. About as good as it could be anyway. Scott Summers… now Headmaster Summers he guessed (he gave an involuntary shiver as that thought crossed his mind) was overwatching the gathered mutants. While he was more relieved than happy to see the more “colorful” guests behaving themselves it was seeing the students dutifully putting on the best example of what this Institute had to offer. Helping guests find their way on the grounds, offering a plate of food to the stray groups of attendees, and even in some cases being the shoulder to cry on for a few strangers.

It was things like these that kept Scott Summers going during this tasking time in his life. First losing Jean and now Charles? Scott thought he’d break, but this school reminded him why he couldn’t. He couldn’t help but smile observing one of the Institute Staff playing with the small class of preteen students. One of the mutants who could be identified by look, she had a large bushy tail. He recalled her name being Doreen.

Cyclops felt something cold metallic feeling brush his neck and he reached back to find an equally cold hand, “These better not be Logan’s, Bobby.”

“Pfffft,” Bobby Drake offered as he cracked the bottle top to his beer that was kept perpetually cold via his mutant abilities, “I think you earned one. Besides, the old man Logan won’t miss a couple. If he does? I’ll tell him one of the older students took one.”

“How woefully irresponsible, Professor Drake,” Scott let out a rare grin as he took the beer and opened it. He raised the bottle to Bobby, “To Charles.”

“To Charles.”

He could tell where the wall had been fixed. The pattern of the wood was off and the paint just didn’t quite match the color. No, this was definitely the wall that he had been blasted through years ago. Calvin Rankin ran a hand along it lightly. It had been years since he had been in these walls and he had left them an enemy of the X-Men. The Mimic. He had tried to kidnap the man whose funeral he was attending for Christ’s sake. Mimic mentally chided himself for taking the Lord’s name in vain. He wasn’t religious, but he knew Kurt was around and the Catholic had a sixth sense for guilt.

He’d kept up with the X-Men. Rivalries gave way to alliances which eventually fostered friendships as Cal journeyed down the road from his young villain days to the responsible adult… hero was a word he didn’t know if he could apply to himself. He didn’t DO things because they felt right. He just didn’t like seeing people get hurt. It was also hard to feel like a hero after what happened in District X. Still, despite the circumstances, this gathering was a nice distraction from that. Looking around he tried to spot some people he knew but to no avail. A lot of the people he recognized. Newer X-Men, Allies from other groups like X-Factor, and even some people he knew from the Brotherhood days.

He guessed he’d settle for someone he didn’t know. He spotted a young woman eating some of the food from the party platters and decided to strike up a conversation.

“Excuse me, miss. Cal Rankin. Are you one of the X-Men or… I mean you look too old to be a student.”

He’d have pounded a whole case by now had he been alone, but Logan was nursing a beer given the circumstances. He’d probably known Chuck longer than anyone here with the exception of Magneto and even then after those two had their falling out he’d probably grew closer to the man than the Master of Magnetism would care to admit.

Xavier had done a lot for him. Gave him purpose, helped him find himself on more than one occasion, and even after years of absence in the middle of the night he had shown up on Xavier’s doorstep with a little girl named Laura who he’d just found out was his daughter. Charles didn’t ask any questions and in a few hours had a room for her and a cup of cocoa. Charles Xavier was probably one of the best men he knew. Now he was gone. Logan took a large pull from his drink and kept moving to keep his mind busy.

He happened upon Alistair. A newer face around the Institute compared to Logan, but he liked the guy. Took a lot of focus to keep power like that reigned in and the older mutant couldn’t help but respect the Hell out of that.

“Need a drink, Tulloch? Do you even… drink?” While Logan liked the guy he just realized he hadn’t a clue how exactly his physiology worked exactly.

“Scouts on the grounds. We should have range between us and them that no mutie powers should pick us up."

“All the same, engage the dampeners. I don’t want this operation fumbled because some kid who can sense what one of our boys and girls had for breakfast somehow tips them off to our intrusion.”

“Understood, sir. They’ll be placing the anti-teleportation pylons to keep any of those type fleeing.”

“Good. Once we have our contingencies in place for most of their powers I want us going in full force. Time to show off what the MRD can really do.”

Rosalia watched as Jason walked over towards the food, not feeling hungry herself as she let out a sigh. If not for the smoke she'd just had, she'd have probably been wanting one right about now. So instead she settled for blowing off her steam the old fashion way, venting.

"Kids these days, am I right?" She asked as she looked to Allistar with a nod of her head, "Good to see you again, Alistair. Or should I call you professor?" She asked with a raised brow. She'd been around long enough to know of him, though she didn't know him enough to know if being informal or formal was the way to go. They were all here for the same thing though, so she figured it would be good to be a bit loose with this stuff.

And that was when the mutant she knew well came onto the scene, Rosalia looking to him with a simple nod, "Logan..." She said, acknowledging that he'd shown but not taking it further then that. Seemed to be the usual call for folks like him, from what she remembered of her time here.

Alistair simply ignored the angry comments from the younger mutant. He had heard such insults before. He cared not what he thought of him. At least, not really. Alistair simply walked away, not looking back and not giving any validity to his jeers.

Alistair chuckled, a bit uncomfortably at first, but still welcoming to Logan. Of course he didn't drink, at least, not often or in the regular sense of the word. He didn't even have a normal mouth to do so. The process was just strange at best. Eating or consuming things was mostly pointless anyway, as he never really needed food. But this was Logans way of showing affection, as unrefined as it was, though something about his lack of refinement had always made him seem more genuine than others. He didn't hide his emotions, or hold back what he was thinking. How freeing that must feel, he mused. Alistair thought for a moment. He didn't actually get anything from eating, but he could still taste things, if he concentrated on it, and he supposed it would be nice to have something distract him for a while. Besides, with Logan around, all of a sudden he began to feel like letting go of himself for a bit. Today he was feeling so preoccupied with controlling himself to keep others in their comfort zones, and he decided he might as well stop stressing about it while he still could.

Alistair reached out and gently took the bottle. "No, not at all really. But you know what? Today I'm making an exception." He looked at it, then tilted the bottle up towards his face. As the liquid ran onto the area of his face where his mouth should have been, it disappeared in a soft white glow, the particles of alcohol compressing and plunging infinitely into singularity. A small vacuum like noise could be heard coming from him as it happened. He put the bottle to the side and looked at Logan. "Thank you."

"Around my students you may call me professor. Here you can call me whatever you like." Even if he didn't know her as well, he didn't feel up to formalities today. He tapped a short talon against the glass of the bottle. "It is quite the crowd today."

Richie listened to the little kid speak at first he was shocked to hear Xaviers voice but than realize it was probably just her mutation which though brought his hopes up made him remember that, the headmaster was truly gone. Yet of course the young man had to relax, closing his eyes for a few moments before looking at Val, a young kid that looks like she needed a place to stay if she was hording that much food. Deciding to attempt to focus on the kid seeing that everyone else were now preoccupied even if Jason did join them, Richie rather focus on helping others than continuing the fight, it seemed the girl had to copy other peoples voice to say things.

Smiling the young man kneed before the little kid with a smile though it was a sad one, the boy was still willing to keep things positive for the young girl, he would grab a piece of meat from one of the many plates on the table an in one bit ate the whole thing and swallowed even though it hurt a bit he wanted to act silly in a attempt to make the girl laugh.

"Damn good food right? Well Val, I most say Valerie is a very pretty name, but I have a feeling you rather be called Val?" Richie asked wishing to show a good caring nature and pick up where Xavier left off with this kid.

"So are you enrolled in the school, yes or no?" Richie said guessing he should make sure she can respond by just using his voice just in case, but he was only guessing at her mutation and wasn't completely sure how it worked. @Jabonicus

Though Horizon had said something to him, Richie wasn't really going to talk with the giant, feeling that it would be more important to talk with the new people and Dick did hear some teachers and older people talking with him so its not like he was going to really need a answer.

"Well Horizon I will be keeping her and the other two new guys company." Richie wasn't even going to speak or look at Jason attempting to just avoid the guy all together. @+SpaceJesus+

"So Ronan, Val and new kid eat up later if you guys want I can talk you guys around the school." Richie was hoping to do this to avoid the sad feeling about the death and since it would allow him to meet new people and get more friends. @Green Ranger @Proleptic @Jabonicus

Ronan opened his mouth to respond with a customary: "I've gotta go." When suddenly he stopped. He didn't know what made him, but he stopped and closed his mouth, cocking his head to the side and thinking for a moment. I should really be getting out of here. He opened his mouth to say farewells.

"That sounds great!"

...

Ronan sat utterly still for a moment, wondering where the new voice on the group had come from.

Wait...

What in the name of Merlin's bloody left pinky toe am I saying?!
