In the past, nine families ruled the Chiss Ascendancy. The Family most known to the outside was Nuruodo, which specialized in the military. Over centuries, families came and fell. Former Ruling Families like Yleba lost standing while others like Mar and Arch grew in power. However, after the Yleba Conspiracy was crushed, the Grand Imperatorship was established, a seat established to create a clear leader. Though many saw this as the devaluing of the Families, the Families remain a powerful force in the Chiss Ascendancy, notably Arch, Mar, and Prard, among others.

The leaders of the Families make up the Council of Families. Each head is called a Prima. Initially, they served as a secondary council under the Grand Imperatorship alongside the Council of Eminence, the Imperator's cabinet. Whereas the Council of Eminence focuses more on security and military, the Council of Families is seen as focusing on the daily non-military aspects of the Ascendancy, allowing the other council and Imperator to focus on defense if needed. However, in recent decades, many Primas have been found to serve both councils, such as Prima Mar'tel'nuruodo and Prima Arch'elie'lia.

There are more than three Ruling Families. However, for these purposes, only the following three will be focused on: Mar, Arch, and Prard. As other families come into play, they shall be added.

The Mar Family
History
The Mar family is currently one of the most powerful families in the Chiss Ascendancy, having near full control of military affairs, and in a sense, replacing the Nuruodo in function. Their origin, however, is much less graceful and glorious than that. The Mar family began on Shrab a few years before the Swarm War, as a small family in charge of one of the cities on Shrab that was under the ruling family, the Yur family, who controlled the whole planet. At the time the Yur family was tyrannical and corrupt, taxing the citizens of Sharb harshly. However, despite the pleas of several small families on Shrab, the rest of the Ascendancy didn't intervene due to Yur's status as a ruling family. Thus the families on the planet lived in discontent until eventually the Yur family went to far, enacting a law where no one Shrab was able to speak out against the Yur in any way, under penalty of death. This was the final straw for many of families that ruled small estates on Sharb, especially the Mar family, led by Mar'vin'nu, who strongly believed in freedom from oppression and were already angry at the Yur due to their harsh taxes. Thus the stirrings of rebellion, and the families began to arm themselves, preparing themselves for war under the Saven banner due to them being the most powerful family on Shrab other than the Yur and everyone agreed that they should rally under the bigger family.

Thus began the Sharb Revolution, a fight solely between the rebellious families and the Yur since the Ruling Families were reluctant to declare war on their own due to their attention being focused on the looming threat of the Dark Nest. Meanwhile several battles were fought, all of them resulting in rebel defeat due to inadequate leadership of the Saven. This led to decreased morale, and a decline in support for the rebel side, since many believed that the Saven were simply in it for the power not for the cause. This rumor was supported by the fact that they led every battle themselves, ignoring other more competent leaders, so they could claim all the glory if they won, leaving the rest to join the rebel army as grunts and cannon fodder. It was not until the Battle of Last Hope, that was fought without Saven leadership due to them being occupied with another battle, that the Rebellion finally had their first victory, under the leadership of Marvin who was immediately instated as the new leader of the rebel cause, thus the rebels reformed under the Mar banner.

Now with the support he needed to operate, Marvin led the fight against the Yur family using various guerrilla hit and run tactics. He raided spaceports, taking starfighters and bombers that were then used by the rebels to attack various key points. Eventually, these tactics helped Marvin turn the tide against the Yur and corner them to only one city on the planet. Sadly, the Yur still had control of the navy above the planet, and since they had already lost their reputation as a Ruling Family and were likely to be exiled, bombarded Sharb. Almost everything was lost, millions died, and most of the planet was reduced to dust. Still some of the more important cities were relatively untouched, since the rebels managed to pull up the shields in time. Meanwhile, the rest of the Chiss Ruling Families were appalled by the Yur's decision to bombard the planet and had most of the family banished, a fate worse than death in Chiss culture. Thus the Yur fell from favor and ceased to be a ruling family, or even a small family, in the Chiss.

This did not mean, that the Mar family had earned the spot of Ruling Family, there was still a ways to go. It was not until the Swarm War did the family rise to power and earn the respect it deserved, thanks to Marvin's son, Mar'oo'nu. Maroon earned prestige and fame by leading several highly classified military operations deep into Dark Nest territory, that might have even changed the course of the war. Eventually many of those who served under him joined the Mar family, due to their respect and never dying loyalty for their commander. Thus the Mar family, along with Shrab, increased in size. So when the Swarm War ended, Maroon was not only a war hero, but also a great leader and friend, while also bringing the Mar family a reputation for being great warriors and tacticians.

After the Swarm War, Shrab was finally on its way to recovery. Then a hundred years later, yet another catastrophe struck, a biological chemical meant to cure a deadly disease went wrong and created some sort of virus that mutated Chiss into monsters. Immediately the planet was put under quarantine and yet again the Mar family was left to fend for its own without help from the outside galaxy. Things were bad for the first few months as the began virus to overrun almost all of the cities on the planet except for a few well guarded military bases and fortified cities. Still, once again, under a great crisis a great warrior arose under the guise of Maroon's grandson, Mar'ev'in, who made multiple successful counter attacks, pushing the virus further back until the virus was holed up in one city, Pacul, the capital city. Thus with one final, glorious attack Marev led the army into the city and laid waste to the virus for several weeks, clearing out every single nook and cranny to ensure the virus did not escape, or survive.

It was only then that the Mar family truly receive the recognition it deserved from the ruling families. Thus after a few decades of recovery and counsel among the ruling families, was the Mar family promoted to ruling family themselves. For the next several hundred years, they remained as a mediocre ruling family, never having too much power, until Mar'tel'nuruodo, a direct descendant of Marvin, was promoted to Tactical Commander, giving the Mar family more power than it has ever had before.

Culture
By Tradition, most of those in the Mar family are intelligent and cunning, famous for their tactical knowledge. They are also natural leaders, able to carry a room with their mere presence. What really separates those from the Mar Family from the rest of the Chiss is the fact that they don't box up their emotions, they are much more open to anger and happiness than those of other families. They also have keen sense of justice and are against severe oppression, due to their history. And even though most of the Mar family are encouraged to join the military, there are a few that join other branches of the Ascendancy such as the Immortals and CAIN. Lastly, if there is one thing you can expect from a member of the Mar Family, it is that they are extremely proficient in combat.

Perhaps the most protected place on the planet, Evir, the capital city, is the location where the Mar Family has recovered time and time again. It is also the location of the Tower, a skyscraper solely for the use and pleasure of Mar Family members. It includes several night clubs, cantinas and other trivial locations for enjoyment.

The Prard family is an emerging Ruling Family with a turbulent history, one of the worst of all of the families, despite being newer than most. Today it has recovered from the terrible disasters that have occurred and is nearly healed altogether. It is famous for the Tosehn Artificium, an art of martial arts passed down among the family generation to generation. Some of the best military leaders and warriors have sprung from this family, as well as powerful aristocrats.

History
It all simply started with an idea, the idea of creating a new family of Chiss that would increase it's strength tenfold. This idea was thought up by the first recorded member of the Prard family, Prard'rak'nuruodo or Drakn. Drakn was an orphan that was never adopted, a forsaken child among the orphanage he was in. So instead they enlisted into the military, where it became an essential part of his life. Eventually this gave Drakn a powerful sense of patriotism, and he dedicated his life to serving the Chiss forces with every fiber of his being. It gave him something to strive for, something he had never found until now. He took great pride in being a Chiss, and eventually became an experienced soldier. Having saved himself enough money, Drakn then left the military. This action shocked those who knew him, due to Drakn's strong sense of patriotism. So where was he going now? Drakn took the money he had earned over the cross of his career and traveled the galaxy, studying multiple forms of martial arts from world to world. He had a goal, a goal to give the Chiss soldiers in the future generations with skills that could stand a challenge against a Jedi with the Force or a Mandalorian and his advanced technology. So Drakn took it upon himself to also study their battle tactics and forms, also studying the maneuvers of a blaster. After a matter of many years, Drakn had finally created the end result he wanted: the Tosehn Artificium. At this point, Drakn's next step in the plan was to start a large family, which was what he did. He got himself a wife and had many children. He would create a powerful Ruling Family. This was his dream. Little did he know that his high goals would lead to the Great Battle and nearly destroy all that he would create.

His children were the first to learn their father's teachings, and many entered the army and Defense Fleet. Some took places in high military positions. Others became humble soldiers, only wishing to serve their union. It soon became part of the family's individual culture and tradition. The Tosehn became traditionally taught generation to generation, and soon the family had amassed enough family funds to begin their own training and education system. Each child would learn battle tactics from a child that taught a well-rounded curriculum involving many of the galaxy's things, such as Jedi or bounty hunters. Each child would be taught the Tosehn from a young age and train to adapt to the intense stamina required to maintain such a skill during combat. At age 18, each student would receive a final test based on their entire education and then be able to pursue what field they wished. And at first, the most encouraged and important field was the field of the military, and Drakn left little room for his kin to join otherwise.

And then, Drakn's grandson, a Chiss by the full name of Prard'orm'nuruodo, or Dormn, was born. He was all that Drakn had ever hoped for. The Chiss was tested to be Force Sensitive, and was given special training at a young age to use the Force. Dormn was also exceptional at the Tosehn, and eventually mastered it later in his education. Drakn loved Dormn with all his heart and showered the boy with gifts and favor. It was no secret that Dormn was the favorite grandson in the family. Now, Dormn also had a brother, a Prard'aish'inrokini or Daishi. He was on the opposite side of the spectrum to his older brother, a Chiss of mind, not skill nor physical prowess. He failed all his attempts at the Tosehn, and he wasn't even Force Sensitive. Despite brilliantly passing all of his studies on battle tactics and galaxy-wide knowledge, Daishi's consuming of knowledge was not appreciated. As he grew, he noticed painfully as his brother was the more loved one when Daishi was not so much as given a single smile. He began to become devoured by scorn and envy, which began to develop for a slow hatred for his brother.

By the time Daishi graduated, Dormn was already high up in the ranks of the military, and a decorated veteran. Dormn was showered with praise whenever he was present in the family grounds, and this pushed Daishi to the point where he left the Prard home, not to be seen for many years later. Meanwhile, Dormn went on to becoming one of the most famous members in Prard history, soon developing his own version of the martial arts, the Vitae Tosehn, optimizing the use of the Force to increase the capacities of the original. It opened a new door for all the Force Sensitives within the family, and Dormn was further famed. Eventually, after many years, Drakn had died of old age, deeming Dormn the new family head on his deathbed.

Two men, once brothers, now enemies, stood facing each other in the main hall of the great family that was now eliminated. One was blue-skinned, a Chiss, like flowing water was his movement, a master of the famous Tosehn Artificium. The other of gray green, a scientific genius poisoned by the effects of scorn and hate. Both were littered with injuries and dashes across their complexion. The battle had gone on long, but it was not over yet.

"Why?"

The blue-skinned Chiss, known as Dormn, the family head of the once known family of Prard, looked at his brother with a look of love, a brotherly love that had never died since the moment the other was born. In his eyes was sadness, for many of his kin had died that day, and he had endured in a few moments the near-destruction of his entire kinsmen.

"Why are you doing this? Why have you come here to kill us, your own family?"

The deformed Chiss opposite to him, looked up, his eyebrows creased with rage. His hatred still fueled him, and his injuries were pushed aside as he looked upon his brother. He pulled a knife out of his arm and tossed it to the side.

"Why? I'll tell you why."

The gray-green Chiss, who's name was once Daishi, spat the words out with disgust and scorn. His mind was just as deformed as his body, hell-bent on the entire destruction of the people who had destroyed his childhood. He had no regard for his own life, so long as he was the one who took the life of Dormn and proved himself worthy.

"You were always the better one, the more loved one. No one cared about me, my life was useless, a waste. your name was the only one that rang in my ears, poisoned my mind. 'Dormn is simply amazing, why can't you just be more like Dormn?'"

Daishi muscles had a spasm for a split second, a side effect of the drugs he had injected himself with in order to improve his coordination. He was faster and more flexible than any normal Chiss should be, but the downside was several medical conditions that should have claimed the Chiss' life. But instead he lived on, for the sole purpose of exacting his demands on his home.

"And, when I finally defeat you, I can take my rightful place as the family head, grandfather shall finally be proud of me, and all will look upon me in awe!"

And when his brother heard these words, his face nodded, finally coming to an understanding. He was overcome with sadness and mourning, for now he knew what had plagued his brother for so many years. And now his mindset had made him ignorant and blind with ambition in a false dream, one that only resulted in devastation.

"Brother, I am sorry, for grandfather is dead. And our people have all been but purged by your blindness. Please, brother, stop this."

This only increased Daishi's rage, his face contorting in a hurricane of gray green that would most certainly bring the inevitable. The battle between the two brothers. It was one led, however, by only one heart, for Dormn no longer fought as the great warrior Dormn, but as the great protector. He allowed the charging monster to land his hits. Only when the other Prard were in danger did he fight back, but his spirit was no longer that of a fierce fighter. Dormn was ready to lay down his life in order to stop this monster that he had inadvertently created, and the remaining Prard would be able to live in peace once again. And maybe, just maybe, they would be great once more if he remedied his mistake.

As the new head, Dormn guided with love and devotion to his people, opening up the family to many eager outsiders who wished to join. However, soon the outsiders were revealed to only want the secrets of the Tosehn and were selling secrets to the black market. Dormn, infuriated, issued a new family-wide law that forbade any outsiders from joining the family. They could not risk the Tosehn in the wrong hands.
However, Daishi had left the Chiss Ascendancy and created his own cult centered around Prard's destruction, where members were forced to join and be experimented upon. Daishi desperately tested subjects for a compound that would push his physical limits. He became insane with his work and obsession with his older brother, eventually experimenting on himself. In a freak experiment, Daishi got somewhat of what he wanted but in turn his complexion became a grayish green instead of blue, and his bone structure was incredibly weak. But Daishi survived, and once he deemed he had enough forces of deformed monsters that were once people, he led a strike against his old home in what would be the Great Battle. Many Prard died that day, so much that the family was almost extinct. The last two standing were Dormn and Daishi, the rest having fallen dead except for Dormn's own infant son. They fought, and Dormn pleaded with his brother to forget his hate, but to no avail. And eventually, to preserve his grandfather's wish, Dormn could not let the Prard die out, so he defeated his brother. Having been enduring his condition for too long, Daishi relented to death, and in his dieing words apologized to his brother.

Dormn, now the last member of the Prard besides his own son, could not let his brother go, despite having killed his entire family. And so, Dormn took Daishi's DNA and cloned it. He had a surgeon and the scientist implant enough Chiss DNA to return the new child to the normal biology of a Chiss, but the skin was still a grayish green. Dormn, now entering old age, spent the rest of his days teaching the clone of Daishi, named Prard'raw'vador or Drawv and his own son, Prard'ras'ket or Drask his own philosophy. They would be strong warriors, but they were also benevolent and kind. They were to be leaders. They were to restore the Prard name.

And so the two boys named each other brothers, and vowed that they would bring glory to their family. Drawv was the humble one of the two, and personally handed leadership to Drask. Aware of his difference in skin-color, Drawv told his brother that since his body was that of shame he would not bring children to the Prard, to keep them pure. Drask, however, rejected this, and said that Drawv was not brought into this house if their father had not loved them. So thereafter the two made use of the now old Prard scrolls and remaining belongings of the Prard family and rebuilt the family. But no longer did they only encourage military. The Prard family expanded to politics, science, communications, technology, as well as military. And then the family was restored. The descendants of Drawv and Drask are now philosophical leaders among the family, and such are given great respect for their humility and great deeds, which are great. After many years and help from the Chiss Ascendancy, the family was rebuilt like never before, reaching the title of one of the great Ruling Families. Drakn's legacy was now complete.

Famous Members

o Drakn, or Prard'rak'nuruodo, was the founder and first recorded member of the Prard family. He was said to be a great warrior, and famous for creating the Tosehn Artificium.

o Dormn, or Prard'orm'nuruodo, was the grandson of Drakn, and was said to be the golden child of the Prard family, who himself created the Vitae Tosehn and mastered the original as well as many skills in the Force.

o Daishi, or Prard'aish'inrokini, was Dormn's younger brother who was thought to be the Yang of Dormn's Yin. He lived in the shadow of his brother and eventually brought down the Great Battle upon the family. Few are actually taught this truth, however, in respect to Dormn's wish.

o Drawv, or Prard'raw'vador was Daishi's clone, cloned by Dormn out his everlasting love for his brother, despite his horrible genocide of the family. He is the ancestor of the few descendants that live today in the Prard family, noted by the abnormal gray-green skin.

o Drask, or Prard'ras'ket was Dormn's own son, who helped Drawv rebuild their family and improve old customs into what it is today.

Culture

Deep into the very Prard tradition and customs lie a base founded by Drakn himself: to have the heart of a warrior. There are still traditions, despite Drawv and Drask's famous amendments, that are still founded on the idea. However, despite the base of being a strong warrior, the actual first step taught by the Prard is the tranquility of the mind. Symbolism and a sense of reaching high goals are also common features among the Prard. There is also a sense of spirituality in a sense, with the spirit of the warrior within you. No longer are children of the Prard pressured into joining the military, and now it has opened up new paths into all industries of the Chiss. Much like it's new system, the Prard education is also similarly being improved to heal the mistake that had created the bane of Dormn: Daishi. To prevent any biasm or social structure based on the different skin color of Drawv's descendants, the two brothers spread an idea throughout the clan that the gray-green Chiss, rather than being inferior, were to be treated with respect in regards to their ancestor, Daishi, Dormn's brother. The descendants of Drawv learned to utilize their skills, and some managed to master the Tosehn despite their ancestor's initial failures, showing that his natural disability in the art was not hereditary. Drawv taught his children much philosophical teachings, and encouraged them to become scholars to help the Prard in the hardships to come. His eldest son promised he would teach his kin well, and that they would also watch over the family in respect to Drawv's own dying wish. In this way, this means the descendants of Drawv are commonly more symbolic, spiritual, and internally tranquil. The dying wish of any Prard member is always treated with the utmost respect, for the death of a member is significant upon the minds of the Prard, and the symbolism was even greater.

Battle Applications

"A warrior can exercise greatness through the mastery of just one of these aspects, but a true master can acquire all of them."
- Prard'orm'nuruodo

The warrior fights with ferocity.
The warrior is sudden.
The warrior is first.
The warrior is quick.
The warrior is sharp.
The warrior is violent.
The warrior wins.

Stamina - The Volition of the Warrior
The Tosehn taxes greatly on stamina, and users of the form often train to increase their endurance and length of time in fighting in battle. It was once said a Prard could fight for three days without stopping, a rumor that was once spread before the Prard's downfall. This may be myth, but it is true that a Prard has been trained to increase stamina. Force sensitive Prard are especially trained, using the Vitae Tosehn, to increase all aspects of the form.

Aggressiveness/Conviction - The Spirit of the Warrior
The importance of the Tosehn is to have your heart in the battle. They say that Daishi would have been killed easily by Dormn had he poured his spirit into the battle. All Tosehn users are extremely aggressive, pouring their energies into one solid reward by any means: winning. There is no grace, no hang-time for a bystander to admire the warrior. This also spreads the idea of mental clarity; a warrior cannot fight if his mind is not focused.

Balance - The Harmony of the Warrior
A Tosehn is always balanced, never can a master trip over himself. They are always alert and ready for a surprise and they will not fall when it finally hits. This is key, because to the Prard, a tripped man is a dead man. The warrior uses this as an advantage to perform flips and quick maneuvers without falling.

Flexibility - The Mobility of the Warrior
The Tosehn teaches that the warrior must be able to move quickly and efficiently to evade or attack. This eventually led to the lesson of flexibility, allowing the warrior to get out of a tough spot or put an enemy in one. This was added to the Tosehn because of one of the things Drakn had studied in his galactic travels: acrobatics.

Ferocity - The Strength of the Warrior
The warrior strikes fast and hard. A warrior, however, is also focused. This discourages wide and powerful strikes for maximum power, however, but simply adds the strength of the strike to the speed. For there was once a saying that said that five hard strikes could outweigh one strong one.

(I can expand on the idea through another thread that will be coming soon.)

Housing

The Main House
temple_of_the_winds_by_korfali-d3imzy3.jpg

This is the primary headquarters of the Prard family, where most, if not all, the activity occurs. Here, there lies the main hall, training centers, the living space, educational facilities, and all other branches of the family. The place took the accumulated money of nearly a century to build and needed much donation from the Chiss Ascendancy and a combination of many Prard member's income. It lies on a secluded area on the planet, further out from the capital.

The Ruins of The Original Main House
temple_pass_final_by_novum1-d52r2hd.jpg

The original Main House, now the ruins due to the Great Battle, still remains standing. It was actually already built before Prard came, but the place was very outdated and no one wished to use the place. So the Prard made use of it, and spent some money refurbishing it for clan needs. But after the great bloodshed that occurred there, the Prard decided it was no longer fit to live in. Instead, the ruins is thought as a place of tranquility, a place to go to look for peace or contemplate important things. There is also one trip once a year where it is used with extensive training of all the students in Prard.

The Prard Family Crest

In what is the grand entrance of the Main House is a beautiful crest engraved into stone taken from the mountains, this same sign is shown on Prard property as the symbol of the clan. It signifies ferocity and grandiose, a design made by the combined effort of many Prard in order to beautify their home.

This tattoo is put onto the forearm of a candidate for the family head. It signifies leadership and honor.
