*For thousands of years, Kal’Shabbol was said to have been the shining star of the Ashlan Expanse. Wild grasslands, vast oceans and enormous mountian ranges were all travelers would be able to see and find if they visited the world. Over ten thousand standard kilometers in diameter, the planet’s large continents, scattered islands and the vast Ashlan Sea provided it with the ideal conditions necessary for a civilization to grow, live and thrive for millenia.

Though most of the planets villages were small, some had evolved into larger cities needed for the economic development of the planet in the eyes of the markets of the Ashlan Expanse. The largest city was the capital, Ashla Prime, and it was the seat of the Bendu Order and the home of the Bendu Temple of Light, which was also the center of government on the planet. Villagers from other areas of the planet flocked to the grasslands on the outskirts of Ashla Prime, the same grasslands where the Temple of Light was located, to watch as the early morning son rose over the mountains and the deep purple haze that the light of the Ashlan Nebula cast over the planet at night. Others simply came to see the temple, to feel the breeze on their faces, to pray within the grass or to admire the beauty of their surroundings.

Josiah observed all of that from the highest chamber of the temple, just as he did every morning. Even so, every time the sun rose above the mountains he felt as if there was something new to admire. He had woken up a few hours earlier, just as he did every morning, leaving his empty bed in his room. Even though he had reached the age of fifty standard years, he had never married and had no children to carry on the Rendar line. Even so, the walls of the temple were filled with the memories of his mother, father and grandmother so he never once felt alone.

Things had changed greatly in the five years since the Shadourian attack and Ussej’s disappearance. The order, as well as the planet, had gone through a great time of awakening, changing their broken ways and many of their older, less-wanted customs. However, even though he did not feel that Ussej was truly dead, he could not keep his mind off of something that Ussej had asked him to tell the Jedi Council: “if I don’t come back, tell the Jedi that I said...thanks.”

In a sense, Josiah not only wanted to find the Jedi to tell them that, but to help them in their war effort as well. He knew full well that the Jedi and the Republic were still locked in their war with the Sith Empire. His intelligence network wouldn’t have been any use if they couldn’t at least figure that out. He did not know how the Jedi Council would react to his proposal for help, but the least he could do was try after the Bendu had put them through so much hardship.

It would obviously be an awkward meeting between him and the Jedi Council, assuming he was even allowed to speak before them. However, if he could convince the Jedi that he had nothing but kindness and righteousness in his heart then perhaps they would both be able to work together to help the Republic rise to power once again. First, however, he would have to consult with the two younger members of the order that he trusted the most, Ussej Padric Bac IV and Lillianne Crasse, so he would be able to know what they thought about leaving Kal’Shabbol once again to help the Republic and the Jedi.

As he placed his robe over his shoulders and walked through the halls to exit into the Grasslands, he could not help but remind himself that the best interests of his people were his first and most important priority, but in the end he still felt that he had an obligation to help the crippled Jedi Order. Hoping to speak with them as soon as possible, Josiah sent a message to Ussej and Lillianne asking them to meet him on the beach of the nearby Ashlan Sea*

Lillianne could feel a change in the air, just like a new fragrance upon the wind once the High Priest had contacted her about the meeting. Change was coming. Though she usually considered change to be a good thing in moderation (keeps things fresh and new), she knew that this would alter their lives forever. She did not need to pay much attention to the hint of concern in the High Priest's words to know the Force of Others was leading them toward something that would change their lives forever, but what was it?

Needing to seek guidance from the One whom she had always turned to, she spent a sleepless night under her favorite tree just outside the Temple in deep meditation. While all was quiet within and around the Bendu Halls, she had an inkling that turmoil was raging beyond their home.

As the wind kissed her cheeks and played with her hair, she meditated long into the morning until the sweet light of the rising sun woke her to the new day, bringing her back to the present. Pulling her shawl around her shoulders suddenly aware of the cold dew that had settled on her robes and within her hair, she began to make her way toward the beach where the High Priest was waiting.

*The salt wind coming from the purple-blue waters of the Ashlan Sea resonated within his soul as the endless currents of peace flowed through him like the hair of an angel whipping within the winds. It gave him a much needed sense of peace after what had happened with Darius the day before. Other than the sounds of the distant city, the oceanic and mountainous region was silent. It was one of the reasons that Josiah had always felt such a strong connection it, along with the Force of Others always being so strong within him there.

Since the sun had rose into the morning sky, Josiah could not help but wish it had been night. There was nothing like seeing Diana and Phoebe, as well as the nearby planets of Had Abaddon, Ondus and Aquilae, reflecting against the water. The reflection that it would have cast against any source of water was the perfect symbol of beauty in his eyes.

As he removed his boots and sat down upon a dune a few meters from the cracking waves, he looked to his left and watched as a small waterfall poured into a pond that eventually fed into the sea. As he looked back and watched as the sun continued to rise into the sky, he sensed the presence of his former student approach. However, Josiah said nothing until she arrived, even though he wanted to say a great deal about her apprentice. He was still taking in the beauty of the surroundings, and most of what he had to say had to be said in front of both Lillianne and Ussej. However, if she spoke to him, he would of course speak to her as well. Some may have seen him as cold because he did not make conversation when he did not want to, though he knew full well how rude it would be to ignore someone speaking to him.*

As Lillianne made her way down the beach and toward the water, she let her eyes drift across the scenery and took deep breaths of the salty sea air. Moving just behind the High Priest, she said nothing for a long while as they both enjoyed the beauty of Yahweh's creation.

Finally, she began to speak in a soft voice, "there's unrest beyond our borders isn't there, mi'lord?"

*He nodded his head. There was a great deal of unrest that he could sense within the Force of Others. It was as if it was calling to him, screaming out his name in hopes that he would find a way to ensure that he and the Bendu would be able to help in the devastating situation that they caused. However, that was not all that Josiah wanted to talk about. Because Ussej had not yet arrived at the shores, he felt that it would be as good a time as any to speak with Lillianne about the actions of her student. Darius had made it seem as if she had actually forgiven him for killing a man, and if that was true then he would have been disappointed in her as well. However, even if she did forgive him, she would have been guilty of nothing more than a possible misguided sense of compassion. There was only one way that he would be able to find out the truth.*

“Since Ussej isn’t here yet,” Josiah said, “I want to talk to you about Darius. I assume you heard that he’s been placed under house arrest?”

She didn't say anything for a long moment, eyes shifting away from the High Priest and gazing toward a flock of birds flying overhead too. Her heart indeed was heavy over the house arrest of her apprentice, an action she believed unnecessary. Taking a few deep breaths to calm herself before their leader, she carefully weighed her words before uttering them.

"I am aware. Yet, I'm not certain what the circumstances are for this house arrest,"she began. "He's not harmed anyone since entering our halls nor has he threatened to do so. He's become completely passive in his time here among us. With training I believe we can even help him break the bond his nature has upon him; yet, I fear this house arrest will undo what steps he's already taken. His case is...delicate, m'lord."

*Josiah nodded, as he could not help but agree that it was delicate. Darius was clearly a disturbed individual and relied on a simple jewel to keep him from committing another crime, though because he did not yet know the circumstances on the crime he had very little to say. He could only hope that Lillianne would be able, and would be willing, to fill in some of the blanks for him. He did not like being in the dark, especially when it came to crimes committed by members of his own order.*

“He killed a man,” Josiah told her as he turned to face her, “many years ago, and only admitted this to me last night. I placed him under house arrest, pending an investigation. I’m hoping that you can fill in some of the blanks here.”

"When he first spoke to me of the murder, I could feel his sorrow in the deed. It has tortured him for many years and caused him to distance himself from everyone. I did not question him further on the matter," I couldn't, she finished in her own mind.

"I understand our laws and our ways, yet Ri...Darius is not completely to blame. He has not had the upbringing we have had. His life has been a great struggle since day one with no one to watch over him. He's been a guardian and care-giver of his own sister, plagued by the same hunger that he suffers from. However, he desires to suppress it and to aid his sister doing so as well.

"He knew no other way, m'lord. Yet, we have a chance to help him overcome this. Don't you see this is the greater cause? The pendant provided him a way to be normal. Over time and due to no other sense of training, he has latched onto it. Yet, my concern was over his addiction to it. Was it merely his perceived need for it or was it an inherent quality of the pendant? However, we can learn these answers now."

Lillianne pulled the pendant she had been given by River out of one of her pockets and began to unwrap it. Holding the chain and letting it drop before the eyes of the High Priest, she waited for him to take it from her, wanting it out of her hands as soon as possible.

It was true her superstitions of the unknown made her overly cautious with the pendant. Once she had been given the pendant, she immediately wrapped it up, being sure not to expose herself to it's qualities, fearful and ignorant of what it may be capable of doing. Going a step further, she sought to hide it outside the Temple in a safe location, a location where no students would come upon it and be drawn to it. It was only when she spend her late night vigil that she dug it up and began to seek the guidance of the Force of Others before this meeting.

"I see,” Josiah told her, realizing that he may have acted too abruptly despite their laws which in turn caused him to reconsider his initial decision, “and I understand as well. However, you cannot let your desire to help your young student cloud your loyalty to our laws. We have to investigate this further. Regardless, I’ll release Darius from house arrest on one condition: he is to be under your supervision at all times. I do not want him to so much as eat without you knowing about it, and if you two travel outside of the temple you will be escorted by guards. Is that clear?”

She bowed her head at his words of wisdom and nodded her head. It was true, she had put the welfare of her own student above the laws of the Bendu and their ways.

"Yes, m'lord. I understand," she answered in a quiet, yet hope filled voice. "Thank you," she said to him, bowing at his graciousness with Darius.

Her eyes then raised to the pendant, swinging from it's chain in her hands. Cupping the pendant in her hands, she moved to his side and knelt down. "What of the pendant? Should we return it to Darius for the time being?"

OOC: Also, do I need to train both of my apprentices in the same thread now since Darius must always be nearby? lol. It could provide for interesting training sessions.

“Not yet,” Josiah told her, though he knew it was most likely not the answer she wanted to hear considering what it helped Darius do. “For now, we need to study it and learn its power. If we can figure out why it helps him, then maybe we can find a way to help his sister and anyone else suffering from this.”

((OOC: If you want, you can. However, if you don’t want to, then when you’re training your other apprentice then Darius can always remain under guard in his quarters.))

"Yes, m'lord," she answered, her voice seeming a little fainter as her mind was working how she might be able to continue his training while also helping him overcome his hunger.

Her eyes looked off in the distance, not knowing what to say as she simply waited by his side, lost in her own thoughts.

OOC: Aaaaarroon!! lol

The sand made a soft crunching and shifting noise as he walked on it. A messenger had come by earlier in the day, during a sparring match with a friend he'd made, and told him of Josiah's request. It took him a while to get to where he was needed, mostly because he'd been in full battle attire and had to take a shower before he could show up to the meeting with the High Priest. It would have been rude to appear and be smelling worse than the lowest life form imaginable.

But finally, here he was, nearing two people talking. One of whom he immediately recognized to be his father's closest friend and the High Priest; Josiah Rendar. And as he got closer, Ussej recognized the second person as well. Lilliane Crasse, a woman whom he'd been on a mission with at one time. Though, he couldn't remember just how that mission ended...

"You sent for me, m'lord?" Ussej asked once he was within reasonable conversation distance. He used the phrase 'm'lord' out of respect towards Josiah, even if he grew up knowing the man, and so that he didn't come off as incredibly arrogant or egotistical.

“Yes, I did,” Josiah said, knowing that what he was about to say might not be well received, especially by the young Ussej considering his resentment towards the Jedi for what happened to his father. “This isn’t going to be easy for any of us, so I’m just going to come out and say. I’m bringing the order back into Republic space to help the Jedi against the Sith, and I want your opinions on it.”

Lillianne, stirred from her own thoughts at the sound of the young priest, turned toward Ussej, bowing her head toward him out of respect. Her eyes darted briefly to the High Priest, seeing his concern for how Ussej might take this news and then back to the priest. Deciding it would be best to remain silent, she simply observed the exchange.

Lillianne had her own doubts about moving into Republic space again. Doubts about how well they would be receive, yet also concerned about the effect the world might have on her and her apprentices as well. Could they remain true to the ways of the Bendu? or would they too be corrupted by the outside as she believed Ussej's father was.

"Republic Space?" Ussej repeated after a moment. Had Josiah gone entirely mad? "The Jedi?!"

The mere thought of helping or even being remotely kind to the people he knew were the reason his father was dead was appalling to Ussej! His father, while he didn't agree with his reasons, had tried to help the Jedi and the Republic; The Jedi were inept, inadequate, and fools in Ussej's mind. The possibility of a wise Jedi was there, of course, though he refused to believe that they had the capability of any such talent.

"You ask me my opinion on helping my father's Murderers?!" Ussej asked, flabbergasted, in a venomous tone. Needless to say, he was not a happy camper right now.

"There's no evidence that your father ever died," Josiah reminded him, "and you know that. Even if he is dead, I doubt that the Jedi killed him."

"As true as that may be," Ussej agreed for an instant before rejoining his blame-game. "The Jedi are what drove him to continue the fight! They are at fault as far as I am concerned!"

Ussej took a deep breath and a few steps away, trying to calm himself down. Josiah was a friend, and mentor to him. He knew that getting angry with him would do nothing but harm.

"You are the High Priest. You must lead our Order how you see fit."
