DESCRIPTION
The CKL prospector skiff is a light survey craft manufactured by Pan-Galactic Power Products, a monolithic corporation which produces everything from kitchen implements to starships. One of PGPP's best selling products in recent years, the CKL has proved a boon to the asteroid mining industry, allowing prospectors to penetrate into even the densest asteroid fields with much higher odds of survival than with previous craft of this type.

The CKL is a small craft, 15.5 meters in length, seating a pilot and copilot/sensor operator in a side-by-side arrangement. The ship is extremely durable, with light shields but a heavy duranium hull that can shrug off impacts by small debris. The ship has a top speed of only 75 MGLT, but does have excellent maneuverability, extremely important in the tight confines of an asteroid field.

Notably, the CKL is equipped with a number of specialty prospecting tools, including a high-resolution sensor system which can differentiate over 12,000,000 individual mineral signatures, an integrated beam drill which can be used to carve samples from promising deposits, and a sample collection arm which can snag said samples and store them in the ship's hold. There is also a beacon launcher, which can be used to plant claim tags on asteroids in order to warn off other prospectors, and to make finding the rock again easier in the ever-shifting maze of an asteroid field.

CKLs notably have no hyperspace capability from the factory, and are thus primarily intended to be operated from a mothership stationed outside an asteroid field. Some prospectors have installed aftermarket hyperdrives on their craft, however, although this is not recommended by the manufacturer and will invalidate the warranty.

LEGALITY
Legal. CKL prospector skiffs are legally classified as light survey craft, and are only subject to civilian licensing requirements.
