Clarity: Karva Nise's Training

Karva instinctively went on the defense. She held the weapon in front of her, using each end to protect her flanks as she sensed each incoming strike from Rehni. With the grace of a dancer the padawan deflected a flurry of strikes with a twirl. This time she pressed the attack and began to unleash a flurry of strikes in rapid succession, her speed becoming eye-crossingly quick.

Rehni was pleased, she kept going, moving with her padawan moving between offensive and defensive strikes. The knight became more unpredictable, her strikes more challenging for the padawan. Rehni looked for Karva's weaknesses in battling. She picked up a sudden burst to over take her padawan. The training rod came down on Karva's right shoulder, before quickly taking out her feet beneath her sending the Twi'lek to the floor.

"Good." replied Rehni, "Resting now for you. Then we willing in training ofing specific Forms. Recommending for you, fast, nimble, Ataru, your choices ising your decisions." explained the Knight helping up Karva. Rehni would recommend training in the Form of Ataru, but the decision ultimately would be up to the padawan.

Karva's right side buckled when the rod came down on her shoulder, setting the padawan up to be sent sprawling with a swipe from Rehni's rod. A soft thud resounded from beneath the girl as she hit the floor with the force of her weight. Staring up at the cielding Karva could only breathe quietly in contemplation of what had just occurred.

With Rehni's help the red-skiined twi'lek hopped up to her feet and bowed politely to show gratitude. As Karva rose from the pose she collected her rod and held it aside. She agreed with the Knight on learning Ataru, the style seemed to suit her own physical capabilities. "I am ready whenever you are," she answered with a look of serene calm.

"Good." replied the Knight receiving the training rod from the padawan. She beckoned her padawan to follow. Rehni entered a code to prevent wondering, curious younglings and entered a much larger training room, more structures and obstacles stood for practice. "You are ofing good candidate for Ataru; fast, nimble, agile. Ataru meant finishing before ofing starts." said the Knight. "Notting meant prolonging fighting hencing: fast, quick."

Rehni went to a wall with several hilts and pulled off two training sabers. "Training sabers." she walked back and handed one to Karva, "Hurting stinging when strike but notting missing limbs." she smiled. "Watching me," she moved her bladed arm bringing it horizontal to the ground, her free arm ready for melee combat, "Offensive," she then moved her bladed down to her side, relaxed as well as her free arm, "Defensive. Practicing from going ofing offensive, to ofing defensive." she explained.

Karva knew of Ataru, it was a very aggressive form of lightsaber combat. It involved speed, agility, acrobatics. She understood why Rehni had suggested it. Karva knew she had a natural grace and having learned to dance seemed to add to her technique. Standing in the larger training room she could only help but smile. There were a few obstacles that Karva was not familiar with and others she could only imagine putting effort into overcoming.

Taking the training saber in hand Karva watched as Rehni displayed the offensive and defensive stances of Ataru. Before the Knight had spoken the Padawan was already imitating her instructor. Quickly she shifted between the two stances, knowing that the repitition would be the sole key to perfecting the technique.

Rehni made quick adjustments as her padawan practiced moving from one position to the next. She stopped Karva when she saw enough and introduced her to more moves and positions the padawan could use effectively in battle or dueling. It was a tedious process, but it was the best to become familiar with the practice of Ataru. She stopped the padawan and stood before her.

"Attacking me." she told Karva wanting to test her skills.

Karva nodded to Rehni before moving in to attack. The practice saber hummed loudly and rapidly as the twi'lek twirled. She swiftly swept at her master's right leg, chopped at her shoulder and jabbed at her torso. A volley of lightning quick attacks was unleashed, each one originating from a different angle. The paths were shallow and the blows were rather weak, but they were made at a fast pace.

Rehni easily blocked the padawan's swipes and jabs. Her body twisted to meet the blade as she jabbed at her torso, Rehni smacked her blade away threw out her hand extinguishing a powerful force push. It would have sent the padawan off her feet. "Up. Too exposed. Motions ofing more fluiding." she recommended.

Karva twisted and turned as she was sent off her feet, flipping her body to land painlessly and roll into a crouch. Her mind called up dance routines and basic maneuvers. She pooled what she knew of Ataru with her skills as a dancer and advanced once more. Karva began to pirouette, she struck with her lightsaber on each rotation before slowling to a near halt and soaring above Rehnin with a spinning slash.

Rehni's blade met with Karva's on each strike, her own body twirling and twisting around Karva, it was what the Knight was looking for. Rehni felt for the timing in the force, her blade came up and crashed with the padawan's own blade. She knocked the blade back and attacked the padawan, her own dance moved her feet and blade catching Karva vulnerable areas. She swept across her torso circling the blade up and back down across her shoulders.

Karva hit the ground with a hefty thud this time. Rehni's attacks had adversely affected her acrobatics and threw her balance off completely, sending the twi'lek to the floor. A throbbing pain welled up down her back and across her upper abdomen. She huffed for breath, having had the wind knocked out of her, and held her arms high in the air. The hilt of her training saber sat a few feet away, silently resting in resigned defeat.

Rehni used a sudden Force pull to gain access to Karva's blade, now with double blades, she stood there watching her padawan. "Giving up? Lie ins defeating? We ising notting done." she told Karva with a bit of sour in her tone of voice. "You diding not lose your Force? I still feeling yours presence..." mocked the Knight, she wanted her padawan get up and fight, for Karva to push her own limits.

Karva took a moment to let the words sink in. She ignored the tone her master spoke in and maintained a calm composure. Rising to her feet she reached out with the Force and called the training saber to her hand, wrenching it from Rehni's grip. Catching the blade she ignited it and engaged the Knight in combat once more. She opened with a flourishing strike at Rehni's right shoulder, quickly chopping back down and then following that with a series of jabs.

Karva drfew on the Force to enhance her movements as well as predict her instructor's next attacks. She would evade them and strike, using tumbles and jukes to avoid Rehni's attacks while continuing her barrage of thrusts, chops and slashes.

It was what Rehni wanted, for her padawan to become more unpredictable and easier for the Knight to listen to the Force without worrying about accidentally burning her padawan with a strike that was meant to kill. She begun moving around the training room, pushing her padawan into corners and up elevated platforms, increasing Karva's acrobatic skills.

The Knight waved her hand and both training blades turned off, taking the training blade from Karva, they stood where they first started.

"Believing you ising ready ofing make yours own blade." she replied, "How ofing you feel?" she asked.

Karva's lekku twitched slowly as she started to think carefully on what Rehni asked. She'd made a lightsaber before, under the guidance of her last Jedi master. The attempt was clumsy at first but persistence paid off and she'd completed construction of the iconic weapon. Her old lightsaber was a reminder of her previous training. And though the pain of loss was still near she understood that it was time to move on. Karva couldn't cling to the past.

"Yes, Master," she replied with a deep bow in respect to her teacher. "I feel fine, just a little sore," Karva joked as she rubbed her tingling abdomen.

"Comes." smiled Rehni, leading her padawan out of the training room, she could sense some conflicting feelings on the lightsaber construction, "Understands loss ising hard. Everyones willing experiencing at points in lives, naturally you needing to grieve; but remembering past ising the pasts. Yours Master before would notting want yous to linger on whats coulds haves been done. Knows I yous ares notting same as you weres before. Combines olding lessons withing newing lessons, show me yous ising ready to complete yours trainings." explained the Knight, "Finds your place," she handed Karva three lightsaber crystals, "Picking yours crystal. Thens showing me you can becomes a knight."

Karva studied Rehni's face for a moment to see if whether her words were sympathy or empathy. Was it possible the Knight had experienced the same loss? Mentors were like parents, except they were not obligated by blood. Their death .would equate to the same as a father or mother. The padawan bit her lower lip for a second after she took the crystals from Rehni's hand, thinking carefully on which would reflect her best. She'd already fashioned a green bladed lightsaber so she couldn't make another. She had to start a new path! Karva chose a yellow crystal and returned the remaining two back to Rehni.
