Things moved quickly once the final would-be buyer left the sauna and the last of the tension with them. Falynn called in the local police forces who likely wouldn't have lifted a finger to investigate this whole mess without Sector Ranger involvement. Having caught criminal activity nearly red-handed, the CBPD had to act or end up with mud on their face. Poetic justice for both sides of the coin. All the huffing and puffing by their short little captive easily faded into background noise as paced about the room in his own thoughts. It had taken a lot for this whole operation to come together. For a rival on Cantonica to turn on the defective medpack dealer and provide reliable information. The Sector Rangers to accept the evidence and manage a successful stake out. Finding the secret entrance to the sauna and catching the seller in the act. Avoid any bloodshed or otherwise failure and finally rely on Canto Bright police to handle the rest. Corran turned at the hip to look at Ranger Tikarsis. They really had threaded the needle on this thing.

Dark-caped officers began their quick work at the scene. Taking evidence, roping off the scene, interviewing the suspect, and also the two Rangers. Corran, for his part, gave them all the details of his experience in a rigid and methodical manner. He was sure not to leave anything out, lest the CBPD get an excuse to let the case fall through the cracks on a technicality. The blond young waited by the door for his partner on the mission after all was handed over. He cocked an eyebrow after seeing Falynn lean over and whisper something to their detained criminal. It looked personal but perhaps none of his business. Soon they were striding past guarding police officers in silver helmets and beyond the holo-tape. A case closed.

With duties fulfilled, the male ranger felt a bit adrift as the pair walked past ogling onlookers on their way back to their temporary quarters. It had been quiet for awhile. That is, until Falynn spoke once they were beyond earshot of the crowds. Her gratitude was appreciated but unnecessary. "No need to thank me," he deflected, "you were the one who found the secret door. All I did was provide back-up." She really did perform extraordinarily tonight. Ranger Tikarsis had been a dutiful officer of the law; cunning, stoic, methodical, thorough, and disciplined. An inspiring ranger. But beyond that, she had been a good friend. They had covered so much in their... questions and yet remained cool-headed and alert. Although they had worked together incidentally in the past, this whole evening felt like it cemented their association. Though her next question caught him a bit off guard.

A brief double-take visually expressed how unexpected her inquiry felt. Corran really didn't know how to answer. He hadn't thought that far ahead to be honest. In a rather surprising display of casualness, the usually serious man tucked his hands into his jacket pockets. "I..." The blond youth began slowly, "... have no idea." Playful blue eyes swiveled to look at Falynn's own dark brown. "Why? Are you asking me to come with you on a night on the town?" He knew that likely wasn't the case, but there wasn't a reason he would say no either if it turned out to be real. The case had been taken care of speedily and unexpectedly. All that was left was spare time and wherever the night took them.

The short amount of time off after a mission was always welcome. Any break seemed rare in their line of work. Within reason, this was the Rangers’ time to spend however they wished. Yet when Falynn asked if her partner had any further plans, she did not expect his next words. Corran’s surprise from before was reflected back on her own face. She raised an eyebrow and blinked at him. “Well, not exactly...” That hadn’t been her intention, but the medic realized she wasn’t exactly being very hospitable. This was her home planet after all. It was a typical gesture to show people around when they visited. “...but, it seems I’ve been a terrible hostess,” Falynn said with a smirk. “I have an idea. Walk with me.”

Instead of turning down the path that lead back to the hotel, Falynn walked a few blocks further before heading down a wide, crowded street with various shops lining the sides. Bright lamps strung overhead created a canopy of lights which illuminated the entire way. Vendors walked back and forth, making efforts to persuade visitors to purchase goods. It was an explosion of color, sounds, and the joy of people content with their way of life here. As if to remind the street of its flaws, the lights also highlighted defects in the road. Cracks snaked across the uneven ground, suggesting it lacked proper city maintenance. Several of the buildings had chipped sides and broken neon-lit signs flashed words with missing characters. Something like this would never be allowed in the heart of Canto Bight, but being on the outskirts of the city meant the regulations were lax. Still, it showed the road was well-travelled and well-loved.

The medic did her best to point out the various stores, what they sold, what they made, and what they specialized in. Several changes had been made since she was last here, but overall the street was fairly similar. At some point, they came upon a store on the corner of a block which was bathed in soft light from a nearby streetlamp. The quaint shop sold a variety of homemade, mouthwatering, baked goods of which there were many flavors. Being located in an area frequented by those who enjoyed wandering from store to store meant all items were sold in small, travel-size portions. Falynn stopped at the entrance, gesturing to the list of treats in the window, “I happen to like the fruitcakes they make here. Do you want to try anything? My treat.” Falynn waited for his answer before buying a small pastry of her own. Just for old times’ sake.

Though the street was only a few blocks long, the array of buildings made it an excellent way to see a great deal without traveling so far. As they continued to walk, the medic glanced at Corran to see if she could catch his thoughts before looking around her. “Of all the places on Cantonica I’ve been to, this is one of my favorite. It’s just nice here.”

What was intended as playful jest turned into something totally unexpected. At first, Corran was amused at the surprised reaction on Falynn's face. She was so subdued normally. At least in his interactions with her. Tables quickly turned when a cocked eyebrow and a smirk replaced astonishment. She was actually going to take him somewhere? The teasing smirk fell off his face like melting snow. Well, he was in too deep now. Besides, this city was simply wonderous and a little sight-seeing counted as patrol. Right?

The distinction between the native and the tourist couldn't be more clear. As the dark-and-crimson haired woman marched confidently down the streets, knowing their twists, turns, and tricks; Corran struggled to keep up as he stopped to ogle new sights, trip over cracks in the sidewalk, and failing to guess the right way to go. That Cantonican native turned ranger was quite the guide though. Any newcomer would have been overwhelmed in the barrage of experiences the blond youth was experiencing, but Falynn was going out of her way to introduce him to the best. Or maybe just stuff she liked. It was all the same to him. Stores catering to nearly every tasteful whim and fancy lined the route to wherever the medic was taking the young man. A chorus of colors, lights, clothing, toys, nick-knacks, and drinks nearly overwhelmed the senses. It was a celebration of life.

All that was passed over for rustic bakery that was well-positioned on the corner of the street. Something about the warm smells wafting from the storefront made Corran felt like he was home even though he'd never been here before. The young man pressed up against the glass and excitedly looked at all the delectable offerings. A literal kid in a candy store. Falynn's offer to pick up the tab for one of the treats made him beam back at her. "They all look so good! Mhmm... I'll take that one." A finger pressed against the glass, as if commanding the baked good to come forward.

The pair walked together a bit more down these old roads of Canto Bight; far from the wealthy casinos and clubs. Although people were still about, things felt quieter here. Corran took a bite out his baked treat and hummed a little in delight. He caught a flash of brown eyes as the woman beside him glanced back at him. The young man chewed and swallowed as she expressed a certain affection for this part of town. He glanced skyward for a moment, looking for his thoughts in the stars. "You know," Corran began slowly, "I like it too." Sky-blue eyes lowered to gaze at her. "Thanks for showing me this place. Cantonica is thought of only a town of ritz and gambling. It's nice to know it has... regular folks too." Sincerity was clear in his eyes and words. Based on what the blond youth had shared earlier, it would be no surprise his sympathy for common people. The trillions who just wanted to make ends meet and break bread with others. "Did you come here often? As a kid?"

He was happy. The quick glance at her partner had revealed at least that much. Tone of voice, posture, and facial expressions all indicated some fraction of that emotion. Whatever else he had been thinking was soon revealed through words of appreciation. Any previous hesitations that bringing Corran down this street would prove to be a mistake vanished. She’d made the right choice. Yes, this was one of her favorite places on the planet, but Falynn had also hoped that it would seem familiar to him. As if to prove that Cantonica wasn’t all riches and power. From what she had learned about his background, it wasn’t at all surprising that Corran found an affinity with the people who lived in this area.

In response to Corran’s question Falynn gave a small shake of her head, “Not as a kid. I hardly knew this place existed until I got severely lost, a few years before I left for school.” Though she didn’t say it plainly, it didn’t take much to guess that she hadn’t lived near this area. “After that day though, I came back here as often as I could. With friends or alone.” It had been years since her last visit, yet she could never forget this place. Some of her favorite memories originated from here. The side of Canto Bight few had experienced.

As the pair of Rangers continued on, the road eventually ended at an intersection that ran along the coastal edge of the city. Falynn informed Corran of which direction would take them back to the hotel, but before heading back stopped to look out at the rest of the city. Down below, she could see the seashore where waves washed in and out creating patterns in the sand. With the sun below the horizon, the darkness far out where sky met sea sharply juxtaposed with the luminosity from the city. Her gaze swept back to the city’s architecture as she wondered how her parents were spending the evening. Falynn made a note to reopen communication with them. But only after she’d left Cantonica. A rueful smile graced her face as she walked back to the hotel. She couldn’t fully sever her connections to Canto Bight. More surprisingly, Falynn found she didn’t even want to. Cantonica was unavoidably isolated, unashamedly affluent, but indefinitely home.
