Just an idea for a weapon that I've been tinkering with for my character Cobalt, part of his repertoire of weapons to be used against Force users. Since the tech boards are closed I won't be able to use it in this timeline, but I'm planning to submit it in the next. For now, all opinions are more than welcome, so let me know what you think!
The esoteric weapons laboratories of the Galactic Alliance black ops organization COBALT, OMC Armaments, delved into many different fields in order to develop weapons that would be used effectively specifically against Force users. Many of the weapons never made it past the idea stage, while others became widely successful and widely fielded by COBALT operators. A lot of people considered OMC Armaments a rather creepy corporation due to their research, which was often not only esoteric, but dark and sometimes borderline immoral.
One of the weapon designs that fit this dedscription to a T, yet became widely successful, was the Mk 1 Holocron Munitions Device, also known among COBALT operators as the Screaming Molly. Fielded in the late stages of the war, it proved a deadly tool of the COBALT operators. Supposedly, the Screaming Molly was so effective that GA military decided to field it with their regular military forces as well - however, the fall of Coruscant put a stop to these plans. Nonetheless, the Molly continues to be used by black ops specialists to this day.
The grenade, described in OMC's prototype idea design as a "force scream grenade", is essentially a holocron. The data on the Mollies were derived from a holocron found by COBALT operators on a derelict Sith ship in the Alderaan System. Though unsubstantiated rumors, the story has it that during the field testing of the first Death Star of the Galactic Empire, a Sith lord named Voss was tasked with recording the effects in the Force of the destruction of a planet, such as Alderaan. All data was collected in a single holocron.
However, the holocron, so filled with the mistery and pain of millions of beings wiped out with the annihilation of Alderaan, became a deadly device that not even the strongest of Force users could activate without being overwhelmed, and, usually, dying. This is what happened, rumor has it, to Lord Voss. Hundreds of years later, COBALT found the holocron, and surrendered it to the scientists of OMC Armaments. They went to work immediately to find a way to weaponize it. The end result was the Mk 1 Force Scream Grenade, alias the Screaming Molly.
Shaped like a triangular holocron, the grenade, when a button is pushed, emits a mere percentage of the pain and suffering that took place on Alderaan, overwhelming any nearby Force users. The horrors generated by the Molly usually killed weaker Force users, but those stronger in the Force could survive the effects of it, though they would be debilitated, shocked, stunned and distracted by its effects. The area of effect of the grenade, to prevent those COBALT operators who were force sensitive from being caught in the grenade's effect, was limited to three meters in diameter.
