On the planet of Ziost, a frigid and barren planet, sits a large compound. That compound sits below the citadel of the Warlord, which can always be seen no matter where you are within the compound. Even in the heart of the compound, surrounded by buildings both short and tall; surrounded by the elite and deadly members of the Band, as well as the hopefuls that strive to one day be counted amongst their ranks, still that towering, opulent edifice of a building can be seen. Although it towers over everything, reminding all of the power the Warlord of the Sacred Band holds over them, it is not the focus of this particular scene.

In the very heart of the compound sits a building. It is relatively large in comparison to all the others, but still nothing beside the opulent palace of the Warlord. Men and women of all kinds bustle back and forth around the building, going about their daily business, whatever that may be. Inside the building, however, everything is different. In one room two men fight tooth and nail, grappling, kicking and punching as they try to best the other. But the room is not a normal room. In fact, the room does not look like a room at all. Trees rise all around them, fallen leaves crunch under their feet and bark rips off trees as they slam each other into them. Finally, after a long, difficult fight, one man snaps the neck of the other, ending his life. As he does, the trees and the forest fade, and the supposedly dead man rubs his head, looking dazed as he climbs to his feet, completely uninjured and with a very clearly not broken neck. “You got me that time,” he says with a growl, his naturally competitive nature shining through, “but I’ll get you next time.” And with the press of but a few buttons, the room’s walls, ceiling and floor all fade once more, this time replaced with the frigid, flat landscape of a barren tundra. The men fight each other again, and once more one of them is slain. Once more, as the defeated falls to the ground, the landscape around them fades, replaced once more with the room they stand in.

In another room, a lightsaber and a sword cross paths as a woman, clearly a Sith, and a man who is clearly not, duel with each other. The man gets run through by the lightsaber, and just like the men in the other room, once his life is ended, the simulation fades and he climbs to his feet, uninjured.

This building is the training building. It has been built specially for the purpose of fighting in a life or death situation, but without the drawback of losing a member of the Sith or the Sacred Band every time a fight ends. It is a building that is off limits to the hopefuls, all of which have failed to prove they are worthy of being able to enter it by ascending to the rank of Brother, Sister or by becoming a member of the Sith Order. It is a building in which the elite members of both the Sacred Band and of the Sith train. It gives them the benefit of a situation that feels real, with all the pain and struggle that comes of fighting for your life, but without the fatal result at the end.

Some would say it is a way for the weak to improve, but others disagree. Others say it is a way for those that have already proved themselves to train and improve their skills without risking a valuable life that could be used to combat foes like the Jedi and the Republic. Some say it allows for experience and skill to be developed without the risk of wasting a valuable asset to the cause.

Hey there! So! What the hell is this and why the long introduction above? Well, this is the combat simulation sign-up thread and that long introduction was to give you an idea of what the hell it is. The goal of this initiative, as mentioned in the newsletter, is to give members of our faction a method to practice their PvP skills and have fun dueling people during their downtime without having to worry about losing their character. The worry of losing your character is for the conflict and battle threads, after all!

But why is it a simulation instead of just regular fights? Well, that’s simple. It being a simulation gives you the freedom to mess around with the environment you’re fighting in, and also gives you the life and death experience of a combat thread, because at the end of one of these bouts one of the characters will “die” in the simulation. Basically what I’m saying is “because it sounded like more fun.”

So! All of this is real simple. Follow the template at the bottom of this post, post it below and I’ll add you to a list of people looking for a sparring partner to kill over and over. That way it’s nice and simple and people can just take a look at this post to see who’s currently looking. Sound good? I hope so!

Simulations aren't a bad idea, but I would worry that the lack of risk would encourage participants to try unrealistically risky moves that would be punishing in real PVP. I think we should train more conservative PVP'ers, less flair and more care. Having real fights with death as a possibility is a good idea; perhaps overseen by a AFL in theory. While character death is permitted, characters that do kill their foe are punished severely, since while the Sith appreciate strength defeating weakness, defeating a tournament participant during a duel of honor is dishonorable, does nothing to advance their own personal power, and undermines the power of the Brotherhood - Sith admire killing the strong when it makes you stronger, not when it's arbitrary.

That could be a lesson we advance. Just a thought.

Hm... you have a good point about the careless, flashy mentality that might develop. At the same time, though, I do want to give people a safe place to practice where they don't have to worry about their character dying. That was the original intent. I did completely forget about mentioning that duels with a potentially deadly outcome are an option for people, but I don't want to make that the norm. I agree with the idea of developing careful PvPers, since being careful and cautious always trumps acting recklessly, but I wouldn't know how to do that without making death or injury a possibility.

Realistically it makes sense for training duels and such to be potentially deadly, but my main concern is giving people somewhere to practice without fear of their character dying.

It's a real concern, but one we can assuage through your presence, or the presence of either Saul or myself. While death will technically be permitted, it will be heavily, heavily frowned upon to the point that someone who goes so far as to kill another character in combat will likely get themselves killed with them. Maiming, losing limbs, all of that can be fixed and rectified through Dark Side healing and cybernetics. Saul is right on this one. Killing a Sith of equal strength provides nothing but a hollow victory. The true punishment for a failure in the arena hould be the humiliation and loss of power that comes with losing, not death. That allows the participants to deepen their connection to the Dark Side, and thus grow as combatants. Besides, with the Brotherhood fresh off of a war, it wouldn't be feasible for them to allow their soldiers to die in a competition of honor. The contest ends as soon as one participant is incapable of going on. At which point they will be sustained, healed, whatever's necessary.

And like I said, with the presence of the Supreme Leader, Dark Lord or the Warlord, I doubt anyone would willingly disobey their direct orders in their presence.

I really wish that the site alerted me whenever something was posted in here. It's annoying that it doesn't.
