A lone Antelope Shuttle flew through hyperspace. At the cockpit sat a forty one year old Duros wearing a brown coat and white shirt and tan pants and brown boots. Next to him was a similarly aged Rodian woman who wore a cyan colored pilot suit. The latter whom held the controls in a skilled matter, looking ahead at the screen in front of them.
Hugo Ion the former Alliance Commander closed his red eyes, thinking. How long has it been, three years? Or perhaps five for all I know.
Whatever true number it felt like ages to the Durosian who face was marked burned scars displayed on the right side of the jaw all the way down to the neck. He winced, the pain had not faded away after all this time.
Finally the Rodian next to him spoke up commenting. “Still hurts like hell?.” Suprised Hugo at first tried not to say anything but meeting his companion’s concerned glaze he finally nodded.
“Yes but it’s nothing new for me. Ya know that Shii.”
“All too well Hugo.” She retorted, causing the rebel veteran to smile tenderly for a moment. Shii was an old childhood friend who saved Hugo while he was lost in the Unknown Regions.
Without saying anything Shii took Hugo’s right hand with her left one. Welcoming the display of affection the Duros gripped his lover’s hand and she did in return.
“I know what you’re thinking Hugo but that’s in the past. You didn’t abandon the Alliance, you were looking for a new possible base in the Unknown Regions but found out unexpected dangers instead.”
Ion said nothing in response before they released their hands from one another. What Shii said was true and he had left Arda in charge but even so guilt lingered in his heart. He looked down at the metal floor, trying to process all the lost time he spent away from the rest of the galaxy.
“Frak this. Snap out of it!” Shii said punching her beloved’s shoulders. Uttering a grunt pain he glared back before chuckling.
“Aye, aye captain.”
Shii rolled her eyes at Hugo’s attempt at humor and added. “Hope your recognition code we got playing still works.”
“Believe me, Arda will recognize it’s signal. I made sure she learned it before I departed.” Looking down at the navigation map Hugo then said. ”Alright dear we’re here let’s get out of lightspeed.”
With a quick nod Shii turned off the hyperdrive and the blue lights ceased, leaving the shuttle stopped in the middle of space. Sitting back in the seat Hugo whispered to himself.
“Now we wait.”
