Given the popular support for the merging of (at least) ARES into the main body of the faction, and the increasingly large number of ex-Galactic Alliance military characters that are making up the ranks, I suggest we look at restructuring the Rebellion, both from an IC point of view, and an OOC point of view.

ICly, I think this could provide some good story, and help move the Rebel storyline forward. Debates, actual restructure, possible conflicts between ARES and current Rebels, depending on how it plays out.

OOCly, if we're merging ARES in, and adding new roles, we may as well start structuring the Rebellion more like an actual organisation, which seems to be what the players are interested in. Also from a purely real-world perspective, military forces that don't have ranks tend to perform poorly in times of crisis, as once a commander gets knocked out of commission, the troops have nobody to look towards.

What I would suggest is the following structure; we divide into ranks and roles.

Ranks would be

1. Commander-In-Chief: The head of the Rebellion. Decided by election, possibly. A hybrid political/martial role, sort of like POTUS with more active military engagement. Admiral Ackbar in the post taking of coruscant era would be a good example as well. Basically separating things out, giving the lead General a title that differentiates them.

2. General: A small council that make up the upper echelons of leadership. Nothing much would change from their current description on the ranks an roles

3. Commander: Field leadership, as before.

4. Lieutenant: Used to lead smaller groups. Gives an opportunity for players to start assuming command, and have something to work towards.

5. Member: As before.

Roles:

Marshall: Force users, predominantly former Imperial Knights, but all trained FS characters would be given this title.

Operative: Spies, slicers and infiltrators. The sneaky ones

Starfighter Corps: We've already got Able Squadron forming themselves into something. We're starting to build something similar to the Rebel Alliance's Starfighter Corps.

Soldier: Your standard militia-man/woman.

Specialist: Our tech people. Scientists, Technical Support Staff (mechanics, etc), all that jazz.

So, do people have thoughts on this matter?

I think it may a bit too much for a rag-tag resistance, but it's headed in the right direction. I'll take a more detailed look at it later today.
