Near the shipyards of Gyndine

2000 hours

Mission Description

The factories of Gyndine, usually a loud yet orderly place. However, it seemed when the Jedi needed them the most them they were thrown into chaos. It was annoying for sure, especially to those in higher command, but there was a solution. For the Jedi, the current problem that was hindering their goals was one that would be considered 'domestic'. Although it sure didn't seem that way.

An environmentalist cult claimed to believe the factories were leaking dangerous fuel into the Gyndyilis River. This is not the truth however, as the cult is being tricked to believe that it was then, although in reality it is a crime family dumping the fuel. The authorities wish to solve the matter in a non-violent way, or at least to the environmentalists.

There have been three Jedi assigned to restore order to the shipyard, Shalken Tanari, Val Ank'hu, and Alaasha Seriin. They would have to make their way into the crime family's order of business, a speeder shop that was near the factories. It would be a difficult task, but it would have to be completed in order for the Peacekeeper, the Jedi flagship, to be repaired.

~
It had been a mistake of the Jedi that caused the Peacekeeper to be damaged. A mistake, and a betrayal. When news had spread, Alaasha had felt, in a way, like she herself had been. The fact that one of the Order's own would cause so much destruction just to make a point across was sad, and in a way ridiculous. Alaasha had volunteered to help with the restoration of the Peacekeeper so that she could help the Order move on from its loss.

Landing The Dawnwind in a port near the factories, Alaasha checked her gear and walked out of the old freighter. With her she brought her typical things, her lightsabers, blaster, grenades, and boots. She had a feeling she wouldn't need most of the things, although it was good to come prepared. The mission itself wouldn't require any sort of disguise, so the Togrutan just wore what she typically did.

As she walked to the street where the three Jedi would meet, she noticed it was unusually empty. Perhaps it wasn't a busy day. Or perhaps the locals knew to avoid the area. Only time would tell.

Val Ank'hu drew back the hood of his brown cloak as he turned the corner onto the street where he was to meet his fellow Jedi. This was his first mission for a while. In times gone by, he would have never hesitated to sign up for a mission, but now he was having his doubts. Not that he had shared them with anyone. The Sith had to be stopped, that was something which Val had never questioned, but did stopping Sith mean the Jedi had to become conquerors and generals, it was a rhetorical question he had been asking himself quite frequently. However, the answer to that question seemed plainly obvious, even if Val had yet to admit it to himself. Of course, Val had never considered himself not a Jedi, it was the only life he had ever known, he enjoyed it too, but he would have been lying to himself if he didn't admit that he had begun to have second thoughts about his affiliation with the Lords Army.

But for now, he had resolved to continue in his attempt to contribute to the war effort, perhaps he could be useful in some way or another. The Sith had to be opposed either way, regardless of his loyalty towards the Jedi Lord and his followers. Val made his way further down the street, he was cold, to try rectify this he folded his arms and pulled his cloak around him to try keep himself warm, partially covering the plain Jedi robes which he was wearing underneath. He spotted Alaasha a few metres ahead, it was impossible to miss her as the street was near-deserted. That was comforting. Approaching her, he flashed a smile but it quickly disappeared.

"Evening." Val said, his greeting was a short one. There was only more one Jedi to arrive and then they would begin their mission. Perhaps time spent in the field would renew Val's spirit in the fight alongside the Lords Army. But as much as he wanted to believe that, he wasn't sure if he did.

As the Vigil soared through the night over the well-lit skyscrapers of the city, Shalken pondered the events that had taken place. The Jedi's efforts on Telos had not gone unnoticed by the Sith, and the latter had showed up with an entire Star Destroyer to hinder them. Though Shalken had not been sent to board the capital ship, his brother Vosrik had, taking on a special task all on his own. However, Shalken wasn't afraid for his brother; Vosrik was a strong Jedi, having faced many Sith before, and well-deserving of his General rank. Now that the battle was over, repairing the Peacekeeper was the Jedi's top priority, and Shalken would see the mission through to the end.

Tightening the straps on his armour, the Knight trod through the oddly-quiet streets of the city. As the report had stated, a criminally-operated speeder factory was polluting the city's rivers, enraging the environmental zealots against the Jedi's presence in orbit. Their goal: stop the pollution. Though doing so peacefully through negotiation was the best option, Shalken definitely would not put intimidation or even elimination beneath him. Willfully destroying the environment was a crime in its own right, and that compounded with actual crime was nigh unforgivable. The Knight utterly despised these vagrants, and he would have no qualms about bringing them to justice.

Turning a final corner, Shalken spotted the two other similarly garbed figures he was scheduled to meet. Approaching the two, he began, "Greetings Alaasha, Val. Let us not linger here long, or we may rouse suspicion. As for how we deal with these ruffians, I suggest a diplomatic route, though I believe a show of force may become necessary if they are as stubborn as our reports tell us. If either of you have other ideas, speak freely."

Soon after she arrived Val and Shalken walked into the deserted street. She did not know either of them, although Shalken did have a twin named Vosrik that the Togrutan had done a mission with before. If Shalken turned out to be half as good as he was, they were set on the right path for the night's adventure.

Coming out of her thoughts, she listened as both of them spoke. Of course, Shalken's plan would be the ideal situation, but the three would be dealing with a crime family. From Alaasha's own experience they did not back down easily.

"Good evening to both of you also. I agree with Shalken, coming in diplomatically is our best option. Although, do not forget we are dealing with a crime family. Don't underestimate them, otherwise we'll all get captured."

It had happened to Alaasha and her master before. In fact, on multiple occasions they had both been captured. That was the risk of dealing with Outer Rim folks.

"The speeder shop is down the road. I would suggest one of us scout out the actual building and surrounding areas while the others go inside. I have some experience negotiating with these families, so I'll go in the shop."

Hopefully, whoever would volunteer to scout the building knew a bit about stealth. Otherwise, the plan would be ruined from the start and the three would have to resort to violence.

“Diplomacy. We are in agreement then.” Val had no intention of ‘showing force’ to anybody, unless he was attacked first. They were criminals and what they were doing was illegal, both of those things were true, but in Val's mind, attacking them without provocation would make them no better than those they sought to bring to justice.

It was not beyond the realm of possibility to persuade the criminals to cease their acts, unlikely yes, but not impossible. Whilst they spoke tactics, Val surveyed both of his allies for this mission. He noticed both of them were younger than him, not that it meant that they were any less skilled. Val trusted their combat abilities implicitly, Jedi were well trained. It was their judgement he was concerned about, he had nothing personal against them, but in the troubling times they were living, there weren't many people whose judgement he did trust wholly, besides his own. There were times he even doubted that.

“Good idea.” Val said in response to Alaasha's suggestion that somebody should scout the Scooter shop and the surrounding area. Val glanced at Shalken, wandering which of them would volunteer for the stealth part of the mission. Stealth training had never been one of his priorities and he doubted his ability to carry out the task effectively, he had always spent the most of his time in training perfecting his Lightsaber technique. Until this moment, he had never quite appreciated the irony of that fact, considering his aversion to conflict.

“I can scout if need be. But I'll leave the decision to you.” Val said to Shalken specifically.

As Alaasha laid out her concerns and warning of underestimating the enemy, Shalken nodded in agreement. "A solid plan, indeed." Although Val had volunteered to scout if necessary, Shalken knew that diplomacy was hardly his strongest area of expertise. Despite not knowing any advanced stealth abilities through the Force, what he did know would most certainly be better than him trying to negotiate with the enemy. "No need, Knight Ank'hu. I shall scout the area, you two go speak to these vagrants. I will keep you two updated the best I can over our comms." With that, he bowed low to the both of them. "May the Force be with us all."

Setting off in the direction of the building, it appeared the Force was with them indeed. A light fog had begun to settle over the city, blanketing the air in a light mist. As he approached the speeder shop, he ducked into a nearby alley. If these criminals had half a brain, they would certainly have security cameras. Contacting his companions, he affirmed, "I'm in position."

Jade paced by the broken down ship. She didn't like just standing around.

With a sigh of frustration, she pressed the earpiece com. "Remind me again why I'm just sitting
around.

As he hurried to the scene reaching a hand to his head to tap his ear piece "Sorry sorry, me and Binam got held up for a bit before we got here. Funny story for later once this is all over" he explains as he hurries down the street and he was heading right for the speeder shop in question. He came to a sliding halt a few yards from the building and paused to catch his breath. "If diplomacy is our first choice we might have an easy way of doing this" he offers over the coms after catching his breath. "Crime is just a business like any other, if we can convince the family that a the threat of the Jedi coming down on them is going to cost more then stopping their pollution we might be able to solve this without an issue" he explains.

"Binam, give me five minutes in the shop before you come in. I think I can pose as a mechanic for them, if we play our cards right we can play up how scary the Jedi are. Or at Binam since he has a rep with crime families back on Corusant. I am thinking we can make him into a boogy man. Not to mention if other Jedi were to arrive with him" he points out before adjusting his jacket. In his own typical fashion he was not dressed as a Jedi never really being fond of the robes and instead was wearing a thick leather jacket common to some engineering groups. His light saber tucked safely away into a sealed inner pocket to conceal it. To most he looked like just an average civilian and after that check he went into the shop his eyes glancing about with genuine curiosity at the speeders for sale but his eyes also glancing up for cameras and security measures he might be able to find. "Allo? You guys still open?" he calls putting a grin on his face.

Binam heard Shalkan respond over the radio, "I'm in position." Binam was making his way calmly down the road so as not to attract attention. "Understood" he whispered into the mike at his collar. Binam had already taken a moment to change his disguise, reversing his coat to its dark grey. With his hood up, he walked with calm purpose, measuring his strides to appear unhurried but also grim and unwelcoming, so that anyone with half a brain would recognize him as someone utterly failing fit his disguise. "They should recognize me as law enforcement when i enter. How hard do you think we need to play this to put you in their good graces?"

Binam slowly approached the ally where Shalkan was waiting in the shadows. "Kyle make your play I'm almost there. Shalkan, this family may have ties in the local law enforcement. Give us a heads up if anyone approaches the building. Things could go south fast."

Shalken nodded as his new companions showed up. Though he had nothing against the previous ones, these two really seemed to know what they were doing. Looking to Binam, he replied, "Your plan is much more cohesive than our previous one. I shall keep a look out for others that may try to stop us, and I can join you for additional pressure if necessary."

Inside, a sleazy-looking fellow slid up to the counter. "Sure thing, buddy....what can I get for ya? We got speeders an' swoops of all shapes an' sizes, even some you can only find in the farthest reaches o' the outer rim."

Kyle took a moment to admire the shop, criminal or not he loved machines and he was always at home in a store devoted to them. He took a moment to eye up the shady man debating his next move before speaking, adding a bit of a huttese accent to his voice common for those who spent a good deal of time on Hut worlds. "Hey man, look I'ma cut to the chase, I'm looking for work and we both know most of the speeders built here were patched together with various stolen parts" he says gesturing to one nearby. "For example, look at that regulator on that beauty thats a Naboo on a clearly Outer Rim make. You cant buy a mod like that unless you piece the two together after slicing the parts off both" he explains

"I aint here to rat ya out man like I said I just need a job. I've tried working legit at a normal garage but I am so sick of it. A legit business tries to cut a profit as hard as they can you know? First they fire me for losing my arm then when I manage to get a new one that lets me do a better job they tell me they already hired someone to fill my spot. I hear working for a family isnt so bad that they look out for each other. I want in on that" he says and as timed Binam came in and Kyle turned his head for a moment with a suspicious gaze before moving closer. "What you say man, can you hook me up? Tell me who to talk to I can pass any test" he whispers before glancing over at Binam again grateful he knew how to easedrop and make it so obvious he was.

"Hey man! You a little curious bout what we're talking about?" Kyle says raising his voice and marching forward towards him. "Thats a nice looking cloak man, who you work for?" he challenges and then of course the best part of this plan, he could throw Binam and it was all still part of the act as he grabs his friends shoulders and with a grin for just him he chucked him towards the speeders using the vehicles to block the shopkeepers line of sight and marches in. "You gonna make me ask again man? I swear I will gut you right here and now" he snarls moving to toy with his forearm and with mechanical whirring his hand folded back into his arm to be replaced with what looked to be a cattle prod but the electric arc between the two points was far brighter and hotter then a simple stun.

As he got closer he spoke much softer for his friend "Can you slice it right here?" he asks tapping the base of the arc welder "Any higher and my arm wont shift back and I think I am gonna need both arms" he points out. "Oh and lets make this terrifying, how bout a force push to really make a message?" he offers and with that he grabbed him by the collar with his left arm and raised him up so the shop man could see them again. "Start talking man!" he shouts while trying to brace himself for what would follow.

(Forgot to add how sorry I am for the delay, I have had just a stressful week with family and had no mojo to write. Will try to stay more ontop of this)

Kyle and Binam had been friends for many years, but Kyle had on many occasions put Binam in a bind with one of his many schemes. So when situations such as this arose, when Binam had the upper hand, he took a small amount of pleasure in playing his part well.

In the moment that Kyle pinned him to the wall, Binam used the scuffle as cover to drop his shoto saber into his palm. "I see you are enjoying yourself" Binam whispered as he maintained his stony faced facade. "You always seem to forget what follows" And on his queue, he ignited the blade and in a flourishing motion sliced the arc welder of the robotic arm and just for good measure made sure his strike went wide and cut off a stabilizer of a nearby speeder. The power from the broken arc welder raced along the length of the blade for just a moment causing sparks to fly as the charge was grounded by the speeder. "You will need something to 'block' me from following... oh and remember to tuck and roll." Binam thrust his open palm forward releasing a force blast, that lifted Kyle off his feet and deposited him rather unceremoniously on top of one of the thugs. He was fairly certain at least one rib would be bruised. But that would only make the ruse seem more real.

With a tone of detached boredom Biman ignited his second saber, "There have been reports of questionably legal activity in this establishment." I'm going to have to ask you and your men to come with me.

"Ho--holy kriff, it's a Jedi! We're fecked---" Before the shifty shopkeeper could continue his tirade of profanities, the body of Kyle landed directly on him, knocking him to the floor. Hearing the commotion, a larger, scruffier man came out from the back of the store. "Oi, what's going on here? What reports? Our methods are perfectly legal! These are baseless accusations! You Jedi keep stuffing your grimy hands where they don't belong; you've damaged one of our finest swoops and injured a customer over some petty rumours!"

Hearing his companions working together quite well, Shalken decided to take advantage of the distraction and slip into the back of the store. If the authorities were called in, they would need some kind of solid evidence to prove their case. Looping around through the shadows into the rear of the building, he searched for any kind of indication that these crooks were polluting the water supply. Finding a box in the back labelled "PIPING", he popped the hatch open. Various labels covered the several tubes contained within, depicting what each contained and which direction their contents flowed, such as "Water Supply - In". Though everything initially seemed perfectly fine, the Knight knew something was off, but he couldn't place exactly what. Peering closer into the box, he then found what he was looking for: on the inside left was a small, hidden door that could slide open. Inside lay another pipe labeled "Water Supply". Suspicious, Shalken ignited his lightsaber, slicing the strange pipe open. Out of it began pouring a gross, inky black liquid, visibly coming from the building itself. Contacting his companions, the Knight reported, "I think I've just found the evidence we need."

As he made his way into the front of the building, Shalken contacted the Gyndine authorities. "This is Jedi Knight Shalken. My companions and I have recently discovered a group of thugs have been dumping toxic waste into the city's water supply."

Entering the building and seeing the commotion, Shalken also drew his lightsaber and ignited it. "These accusations are far from baseless. I have just inspected your piping in the back of your establishment and found you are deliberately polluting the water supply. I have already contacted the authorities, and they are en route to have you arrested."

The shopkeeper fumed. "You inspected our building without a warrant? That goes against regulation! This is outrageous!" Looking him down sternly, Shalken replied, "We are at war, and you are inhibiting our efforts. This is no place or time for bureaucratic nonsense. You are under arrest for willingly harming the public."

Sure enough, a few minutes later, a speeder showed up at the building. The police force, finding the Jedi's accusations were indeed correct, took the criminals to prison, and ensured that the city would be notified.
