This is an interest survey as well as a suggestion. I'm not sure if there is already something like this in place and if so I apologize for the waste of time. This is a very rough idea still but if it receives a good amount of interest I will gladly put more work into it. Also, I am new so if something like this already exist on here I apologize I missed it

So first of all each craftable item would have a blueprint image that has a image, description, base values, and modifier dice.
The success as well as the modifier would be determined by a simple dice roll code (which could hopefully be installed by admins)
Different boosters could be available to either ensure success or increase modifier results.
This would open up a slew of artisan carrers such as weaponsmith, armor smith, shipwright, etc.
An artisan District sub forum could be used where craters can have threads where they make their items.
Each crafted item would be required to have a crafter specific ID code so that each item can only be sold once.

There would of course still be generic items that can be purchased in unlimited supply but this would make the most elite weapons user made and a rare-ish and mostly unique commodity.

I think with some polishing this could be a cool and fun idea I cant wait to hear all of your opinions

Since we don't use dice, nor do I see us adding that anytime soon (although I think some non-mainline RPs have used dice in the past?), I can't imagine this would be useful. I would frankly hate to go through the minutiae of this and rather write out my path to developing said items. We are a writing group far more than a gaming group, after all.

I see the merits and the thought here, but just a non-starter for me, mate.

I mean crafters have lives too, there would still be plenty of RP for crafters to do, the crafting element would just be a fun little side thing. A big reason I'm pitching the idea is because I personally would love to play as a weaponsmith but I would like for my items to potentially carry weight. This system would also give crafters comparisons and braging rights for being the best crafters.

In my opinion that goes completely against what this site is supposed to be. We don't even have dice, and, from what I got, if your idea is implemented, PvP becomes who has the most overpowered item instead of the usual trying to best your opponent via writing.

Besides, that sounds like an absurd amount of coding for not much benefit.

Yeah, I'm afraid this isn't something that we'll implement. In addition to being a free form RP site that doesn't use dice, we've also taken a big step away from emphasizing technology for the new timeline. We're deemphasizing its importance and putting in tighter regulations to more limit the use of technology in PvP scenarios, so this would run counter to that. Sorry.

I understand completely just an idea that I had. Thanks for the quick reply though :)

I wouldn't mind seeing dice on the site, insofar as I could run Edge of the Empire in Diverse RP or something, but really I think including dice would inevitably detract from the emphasis on writing skill since it would create a dissonance in how characters are designed, which would then leak into how some players RP versus others, and lead to a division. The majority of people are on this site specifically because they want to avoid the kinds of structure and limitations dice and abject randomization puts on RP.

You're free to craft items, though; although stat modifiers and the like won't have a significant impact on the RP, they should have increased sentimental value and be more readily known to other characters who've read or been involved in threads regarding the creation of said items.
