Things had gotten real weird after he reached the Mandalore Sector, one moment he was talking to a bossy lady about being lost, the next he was accompanying her clan to some festival on Kashyyyk. Well. technically he was a part of her clan now, somewhere along the way that had happened, and Dax was still coming to terms with it all.

He had never seen a Wookiee before, so Kashyyyk was an interesting experience for him, but he hadn't had much of an opportunity to mingle with them before Raz and Narir were running off somewhere and by virtue of being the first chest-plate she could grab he had been dragged along as well.

Thankfully they had filled him in on the situation on the way to the abandoned outpost, an outpost that had now been re-purposed by a band of Trandoshan slavers as a staging ground to attack the Wookiees during the festival of life.

Perched atop a tree branch overlooking the base, Dax observed the base and noticed a spot in the walls below one of the turrets where some shrubbery had grown over. They probably could get in that way, but as inexperienced as he was, he felt a weird discomfort about how simple that seemed and wondered what he was missing.

"Just so you know," he spoke up as the two more seasoned warriors were observing the base, "this is my first time doing anything like this. And by this I don't mean rescuing Wookiees from lizard people, I'd be surprised if this wasn't the first time either of you were doing this actually. I've never even been involved in a real fight."

He waited for the laughter, or some mocking remark, these were people whose entire life was about the fight, and in that moment, sharing what he had, he felt more of an outsider than he ever had in his short time with them.

Narir hasn’t been to Kashyyk in ages, but he liked Wookiees. They were some of the toughest creatures he had ever seen, and that was saying something. Their strength - while obviously unachievable for a human - was something to look up to and strive toward. Because of all this, Narir was happy to be here today, and even more happy to hunt down the Trandoshans out for blood on a holiday.

In contrast, Narir was not a fan of Trandoshans. Perhaps painting them all with a blanket statement was unfair, but in his experience most of them were foul, cruel, and pointlessly violent. While Narir was no foreigner to violence or even averse to it by any means, there was something about the lizard people that rubbed him the wrong way.

So when the chance to mess some of them up appeared, the Mandalorian jumped at it. Grabbing the remainder of his gear, he plunged through the jungle, keeping alert to the odd creatures that were known to be out here. Although the Wookiees seemed to have set up a good perimeter, you never knew what could sneak through. Some lizards had...

At the mention of this being the Vizla’s first fight, that did draw a look from Narir. How’d you make it this far without fighting? I thought Vizlas were fighters, he said. Hopefully even if he hadn’t been in a fight he’d been out hunting or training. If not, this might well turn ugly in a hurry.

A moment later he shook his head. Well, you’re going to get your feet wet with a full plunge today, he said, not seeing any reason to belabor the point. It would be sink or swim today. @Wit @Sreeya

Raz wasn’t a fan of neither wookiees nor trandoshans. However, she wasn’t stupid enough to miss the obvious advantages in befriending the wookiees. Despite the humanocentric sentiments of her clan, it was impossible to deny that there were lots of benefits to working with the burly beasts that had a planet directly in between the two Sith empires. She was perched above the base as well, glancing down at the movement happening below.

She heard the other two speak, surprised to hear that Dax wasn’t familiar with doing raids like these, “You call yourself a Mando?” She snickered, shaking her head as she reached for her rifle. Raz looked over at Nar, “I think we should capture this base for ourselves and set up here. We already wiped out another trandoshan camp and the locals are very happy with us,” She whispered as she spoke, letting him weigh the options. She didn’t want to make brash decisions without his input on it.

For now, though, they had the trandoshans to focus on. She looked through the scope of her rifle, “I only see two of them…. This seems off,” Raz didn’t attack just yet, slowly shifting forth to get closer to the base, “Keep the base as intact as possible. Less for us to rebuild later.”

Dax had expected this, and he had willingly shared with them, so he was just going to have to put up with any and all mocking till he earned their respect. And he wouldn't have it any other way. They had taken him in, accepted him, and given him the opportunity to become his parents' son, any baggage that came with that was a price he considered well worth paying.

So, fueled by a desire to prove himself as soon as possible and a fair amount of youthful carelessness that wasn't moderated by the experience the others had, he did something more than a little rash. As Raz and Nar discussed their next course of action, he dropped from the tree and began sneaking up towards the camp. He might not have as much combat experience as any of the other two, well he actually had no combat experience, but he wasn't completely incompetent. His parents had given him the same training any Mandalorian gave their children, and though Dax might not have known it then they were preparing him for situations just like these. Moving as quickly as he could without drawing any attention to himself, he ran up right to the base and came to a stop with his back pressed against the wall and waited for the alarms to go up. When nothing happened, he grinned in relief at not having made a fool of himself in front of Raz and Nar and raised a hand to flash a thumbs-up towards them.

Moving a lot more slowly now that he was right up against the camp, he moved along the wall till he found a suitable vantage point and pulled himself up to peer over the wall into the camp. Taking a quick but thorough look around, he dropped back to the ground just as quickly as he had jumped up and activated his comms. "I spotted three more down below!" Now that Raz had mentioned it, it did seem like a low number, but if they were gonna get lucky on his first raid then he wasn't going to complain, "just five of them in all." He paused for a second before adding in a quick "I think we can take them!"

Only three? That seemed a little too good to be true. Narir took a moment to figure how many of these Trandoshans had come onto the planet, and what the odds were that there were truly only two here. He wasn't sure he would have wanted to hunt a Wookiee with only two people, let alone assault groups of Wookiees like the lizard-men often did.

Agreed, he said to Raz. If they could keep the buildings intact, it would give them a major advantage later on not to have to rebuild, but even more than that, he agreed with her that only two of these Trandos wasn't right. He was just opening his mouth to say they should scout the perimeter for more when Dax quickly dropped down and scampered off.

I guess we should follow him, he said with a sigh, slapping the powrpack on his rifle one more time to make sure it was in place before climbing down, taking his path a bit more slowly and carefully. Everywhere his eyes went, his blaster quickly swept after it.

Narir continued toward the main base, making his way through the bushes and right up against the wall. Be careful, Oblivious Badger, there are probably more around, he said, setting his eye on one of the guards at the perimeter, just undoing his pants to relieve his bladder. Letting his rifle fall to his belt, Narir drew the vibroblade on his belt. Trandoshan skin was notoriously difficult to cut through, but a vibroblade could slide through like butter.

At the last moment, he flipped the activator on. The quiet buzz was mostly drowned out by the noise of the jungle's wildlife and a moment later, Narir had buried the blade up to the hilt in the lizard's neck, shoving him into the ground and blood and other fluids poured out... Narir was careful not to get in them. @Sreeya @Wit

OoC: I rolled a fucking one

Raz stared with utmost lack of amusement as Dax began to move before they even formulated a plan. She shook her head, sighing to herself. Things like these usually filtered out who remained in the clan and who died before they even set eyes on a dire badger for the first time. She ignored him for now, taking the quieter route to make her way towards the camp. Raz took out her beskad, following the tactic Nar took with his vibrosword.

Five trandoshans could very well turn into many more if they weren’t careful. All it would take is for one of them to raise the alarms and they’d have a full onslaught to deal with. Raz walked to the side, approaching behind one of the Trandoshans. She began to sneak up on him and had her blade ready.

However, she didn’t notice another trandoshan spotted her. Before she could do anything, the other one fired a blaster, the bolt hitting her right in the shoulder. Raz grunted in pain and stumbled back only for the trandoshan she was about to take out whirl around to face her. He didn’t hesitate as he quickly wrestled the beskad out of her grip while she was reeling from pain. Raz was suddenly left defenseless and surrounded by two trandoshans. Kriff.

Oblivious Badger? Was that what they were gonna call him now? Great, just great. In a way it was a good thing, if they were giving him names then it meant that they were beginning to accept him on some level, but why couldn't it have been something better. Like Deadly Badger, or Mighty Badger. Nothing to it, he'd just have to earn a badass name like that.

Nodding in response to Narir's rebuke, he noticed Raz moving towards the base as well, things seemed to be going rather well so far. He felt pretty good about their odds, taking out five slavers shouldn't be too hard. But of course that was when things going wrong. As Raz was preparing to take out one Trandoshan, another got the jump on her from behind, managing to get a shot on her and she was suddenly on the ground, surrounded by two slavers. Dax pulled up his blasters at once, now that the first shot had been fired there wasn't really much point in keeping quiet, and fired off two shots at the two Trandoshans. But another figure slammed into him from above and threw his aim off, both shots missing their intended targets. Though thankfully they didn't hit Raz. He probably would have never lived that down.

But he had more pressing matters to deal with, as he was now on the ground, flat on his chest as the Trandoshan had jumped on him from above. Someone in the camp had noticed him after all, and with his focus on Raz he had been easy pickings. From attempting to rescue Raz from a tricky situation, he had suddenly found himself in an even worse pickle. With the Trandoshan having rolled to the ground near him and already on his knees, and Dax lying on his stomach on the ground, he was just as defenseless as Raz was.

Narir finished off the Trandoshan and spun with concern at the sound of another gunshot. An ambush? Another lizard seemed to have emerged from the bushes suddenly and struck Dax. This was exactly why you didn't just go charging into a fight with reckless abandon. Shab, he cursed dropping his vibroblade and swinging his rifle up and squeezing the trigger as everything seemed to fall into a rhythm. Three bolts spat from his rifle and two punched into the heads of the lizards attacking Raz.

He swung his rifle around and pulled the trigger twice again, this time at the lizard attacking Dax. The first shot went over the enemy's left shoulder and the second was right on course for his head, but the Trandoshan leapt to the side, evading the bolt. He wasn't dead, but at least he wasn't in a position to hit Dax anymore, giving him a moment of breathing room to get his feet under him.

We need to move! he shouted. Continuing to fire at the Trandoshan now rolling down a hill. There was no telling what could be in the camp, but if they didn't move quickly, they could easily be pinned down. You're not dead are you? he asked generally to them both, hoping to hear "no" from both, but not sure. He knew the Trandoshans had fired, and he didn't know if they'd hit anyone. @Sreeya @Wit

Raz groaned from where she was, giving a thumbs up to show she was still alive and kicking. She drew her gun up again, looking at the remaining Trandoshans in the camp that were harder to spot. She went back to retrieve her beskad, yanking it out of the dead trandoshan’s grip. She was mad now, and there was nothing that would satisfy her more than simply destroying the lizards. Unfortunately, she couldn’t use her usual go to of explosives, not when they wanted to use this place as a base.

Raz followed Nar’s command, rushing out towards where he was. From what she could tell, no other Trandoshans were in the immediate area. Nevertheless, Raz remained behind cover, slowly moving around to check to see if any were left. She spotted two Trandoshans remaining, one up on a tower that was aiming his gun at Nar, another behind a boulder up ahead.

She immediately leveled her gun and fired at the one in the tower, successfully popping him in the chest before he could fire his gun. Raz ducked to the side as the one behind the boulder swiveled around to shoot at her, “Cap him!” She shouted at Dax, who would have seen where the shot was coming from by now.

"Yeah." Dax grunted out a reply as he pushed himself off the ground and picked up his blasters from where he had dropped them. Almost immediately he fired off a shot to finish off the Trandoshan that jumped on him and Narir had managed to keep off of him. That bought him a moment's respite, which he used to catch his breath and actually look around to see what was going on around him, as both his companions seemed to be in the heat of battle.

With a slightly better idea of what was going on, he ran after Raz and Narir, but while his moment of recon had given him a better idea of what was going on, it did mean that he was lagging behind them a little. But it turned out to be a good thing, as when Raz called out to him to take out what was probably the last of the slavers, he was perfectly positioned to do so. Brining both blasters to bear on the last Trandoshans, he fired twice from each weapon, firing shots that would make any Mandalorian proud as they flew straight and true and slammed into the slaver's face.

As he fell lifeless to the ground, Dax kept his weapons raised and ready to shoot, waiting for more enemies, but none arrived. "Was that all of them? I think that was all of them."

The gunfire continued to rip through the night and Narir slid into cover behind a large rock structure that was just barely big enough to provide him protection. A blaster round slapped against it, sending small shards of heated stone through the air as Raz took down the shooter. Narir's rifle scanned for signs of the final one and locked into him just as a bolt from Dax streaked through the sky and knocked him back with half of his head missing.

And then just like that it was over. No more gunshots, all the badgers still alive, and everyone still in fighting shape. Well, Dax, there's your first fight. That'll put some hair on your chest, he said, smiling beneath his helmet.

He began pushing his way through the camp, looking for any more survivors, but there weren't any. In fact, this might just make the perfect position for their new team. He made his way down to the perimeter. It could have been in a worse position: it had the top of the hill, good watch towers, and a nice overlook of the surroundings. He wondered if some of the slavers would be returning to try to retake it and what kind of resistance they would face.

We should start re-fortifying, he said, as he returned to the top of the hill. There's a lot of work to do, but this'll do nicely.
