Creeping Darkness

[Reidly]

Taking a swig of his alcohol flask, Ryth walked into the cockpit of his mate's ship, the Sun Runner. An alert was bleeping across the dashboard, and Ryth decided to check it out, being the only one awake at the time.
As the message began, a hologram of a young chiss boy appeared. He looked like a farmer, but he held a blaster in hands, and was shaking.
"I-if you can hear this, please help. Something's gone wrong with our livestock and wildlife.. They're killing everything, and they won't die!" He whispered in a hushed tone. A loud crash was heard, along with screaming. The message ended there.
"Guess we've got something to do." He strode into his shared bedroom, flicking on the lights.
"Up and at em, Valia."

[The Captain]

Valia groaned loudly as her beloved mate stormed into their room, shouting and flicking on the light. Trying to shake off her hangover induced headache, she stood up and slipped into her flight suit, moving up to the cockpit, yawning and growling, she took her seat and looked over the control console.

"Babe, I'm fighting a raging headache here, so whatever it is better be important. I am NOT a morning person..."

 

[Reidly]

With a chuckle, he sat by her side and wrapped his tail around hers.
"There was a message, distress signal from a little farming asteroid, thought you would want to see it." So he played her the message.

 

[The Captain]

Valia watched the message unfold with intense interest. As the video ended, she turned to the sensors and tried to pinpoint the location of the transmission. It was an equatorial farm on a nearby planet.

"Alright, we got a lock on their location, and I'm curious. Any thoughts before I fly us down there anyway?" She smirked and rubbed her tail against his.

 

[Reidly]

"Just be careful, we don't know what happened." He assured, waiting patiently to arrive.

 

[The Captain]

Valia piloted the Sun Runner down to the surface, following the source of the transmission signal. A quick fly-over showed a large farmstead in complete ruins, with small fires and corpses lying around.

"What...what happened here?!"

 

[Reidly]

Ryth was just as stunned as her, his eyes darting over the ruined landscape and landing on an old barn.
"If we want any answers, I bet we'll find theme there." He pointed to said barn, being the only building that wasn't completely obliterated.

 

[The Captain]

Landing the ship nearby and sealing Creespa in the captain's quarters for good measure, Valia opened the ramp and disembarked. Drawing her trusty Sunspear blast pistol, she began to move through the dark toward the barn.

 

[Reidly]

Ryth followed close behind, the stench of death and destruction assaulting his nostrils.
"Stick close to me." He said softly.
Soon the two of them arrived at the barn, checking around for any entrance. The main door was broken, and several creatures lay dead by the remnants.
"Ready?" Ryth asked?

 

[The Captain]

Valia kept close behind Ryth, making sure nothing snuck up behind them. As they reached the door, she nodded to him and gestured inside.

 

[Reidly]

Ryth stepped inside, blaster raised and ready. The outside... was nothing compared to what they found indoors. Ryth held back a gag, trying to see if there were any survivors.

 

[The Captain]

Valia was stunned to silence seeing the carnage inside the barn. She slowly inched forward, not out of caution, but out of shock and horror, trying desperately not to throw up. She clutched her blaster pistol and stuck close to Ryth, whispering into his ear.

"Wh-what...did this..?"

 

[Reidly]

"Whatever it was, it is not friendly." He crouched down, examining one of the bodies. It was the chiss boy, from the message. Dead, like all the others.

 

[The Captain]

Valia moved through the carnage, trying to piece together what had happened here. It was a massacre, the chiss boy mentioned animals, but there were only a few animal corpses.

 

[Reidly]

Ryth moved to check on the others, when ne neard a groan, coming from the back. A survivor! Without a moment's hesitation, he ran to the souce.

 

[The Captain]

As Ryth darted off in one direction, Valia turned to follow. However, a flicker of movement in the dark caught her attention. She began moving down the barn toward it, blaster at the ready.

 

[Reidly]

Ryth arrived at the source of the noise, a small animal. Probably a pet. Its leg was hurt, but it seemed to have escaped the massacre.
"Shhh... It'll be ok..." He soothed.

 

[The Captain]

Valia approached the source of the movement, she saw it was a nerf calf. It was heavily injured, to the point where it looked like it shouldn't be alive, but it still was. As she reached for the calf, it turned to her and tried to bite her, narrowly missing.

"Gahh! Hey, Ryth!" She staggered back, aiming at the calf.

 

[Reidly]

Ryth picked up the small animal in his arms, walking over to Valia.
"Something attack you?"

 

[The Captain]

Valia had her foot pressed to the nerf's head, keeping it at bay as it tried to nip at her.

"A nerf calf, it's hurt pretty badly but it's trying to bite me for some reason."
