DESCRIPTION
The D-type work pod is a pattern of light spacecraft which has served a basic, necessary function in the Galaxy for centuries, if not millennia. Consisting of a sphere 3.5 meters in diameter and meant to perform work in zero gravity, the D-type is piloted by a single individual, and is armed with a diverse arsenal of retractable tools, as well as excellent maneuverability and ease of handling. D-types are typically used for maintenance, repair and construction projects in space. Although vacuum-suited sentients and droids can be used for the same work, pods such as the D-type provide a more comfortable, convenient and longer-duration platform. They are often used in shipyards for external construction, repair and maintenance of spacecraft, as well as building and maintaining space stations, or in certain zero-gravity mining and survey roles. Though not fast, flashy or particularly complex, they are nearly ubiquitous anywhere work is done in space.
LEGALITY
Legal. D-type work pods are unrestricted in nearly all systems.INTENT
To create a category of ultralight spacecraft that was heretofore missing from the setting.
