Just creating this in case we need it for questions related to the PvP that is kicking off. Since this is a PvP (and more importantly a plot thread) that needs to be moved along for the story to prgress, I'll be enforcing the standard 48 hour rules. I initiated the attack in my last post and BN posted after me, so we'll stick with the following posting order going forward;

Myself
@Black Noise
@Mortivica

That means you're up Mortivica! @Ecclessey hasn't had a chance to join the thread as intended yet, but when (and if) he does before this PvP ends, we will add him to the end of the posting order.

Good luck everyone! May the Force be with you.

You're up again @Mortivica, though this is a bit of a tight spot. Let me know if you have any questions for us before you post.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but Force Barrier is one of the basic Force abilities, and often taught to Padawans early on. Now, with Force Barrier, it doesn't require a Master Level to stop a lightsaber, it is the strength of the individual that defines the strength of the barrier; dictating the number of hits (reflections) in which it can withstand. Which in this case, it would be only the one hit to halt the lightsaber attack...which then the barrier would dissipate. Thus her legs would be safe. As individuals tighten their connection to the Force, Force Barriers grow stronger; taking on different applications resulting in reflecting / defending against more powerful attacks.

As you mentioned the word concentration, remember she is simply standing there waiting for your character to draw closer. She isn't making any physical moves, thus for the one time use of the Force Barrier; her concentration would be at it's highest peak.

Now, even if (which I'm leaning toward yes) that the barrier's energy was disrupted by the plasma of the saber blade, putting down the barrier, Xiang is not in the same location; meaning that your lightsaber could have been stopped momentarily before it went through or it's momentum slowed making it sluggish. However, Xiang stepped to her left changing her position from directly in front of your character. At which time she called her former Master's weapon to her hand...thus her attention wouldn't be divided by sustaining a barrier and calling the hilt.

Edit: Even with the lost attempt to the hilt, and her reposition, her blade is still being thrusted at you. Let me know what you think.

Hey @Mortivica

I can't say I'm aware of any Padawan level character using Force barrier in this way in any Canon source, and I especially can't imagine it happening without serious effort. Barriers are described in the Energy Manipulation section of the Force Rules, second paragraph. The last line reads "...interruptions can result in failure of their defenses or attacks". If you had actually been concentrating on the barrier and the barrier alone, you might have an argument. Unfortunately, I count at least 4 other actions attempted after that in your post.

The most important one is the Telekinesis attempt. The ranks and power descriptions at the top of that page tell us only a level 4 Force user can manifest two different usages at once. A barrier, especially for an attack like this, would not be a fire-and-forget ability. You would have to maintain it. As we can see in the PvP Guide section for Force Powers , that could be exceedingly difficult, given the full body barrier, the sweeping sideways attack, and especially as a level 1. There is also nothing in your post that indicates you step significantly enough to be out of my range- that would be a very large step.

This was the point where I interrupted your actions, so anything after that (like activating your saber and the stab) is moot. That's the problem with trying to do too many different things in a PvP post- you end up leaving yourself open to interruptions. It's part of the learning curve to PvP.

If you want to try to work something out to try to save yourself with the hit you're most likely taking (might be hard), or at least try to take one of us down with you (could be nice and dramatic), feel free. If you have an issue with the way I've interrupted your attack and defense, I would recommend filing a report so we can get another Admin to weigh in on it.

'Tis fine....there is nothing I can really do....since pretty much any action I've taken has put me in the death strikes through interpretations of what is and what isn't . And any action I do take will make no difference really. I joined the thread to add to the story of your Plot....not get dragged into a pvp (and now a death of a character) 6 posts in. Build up to a pvp was non-existent or a respectable approach would have been to ask at the start of this OOC if pvp was something I would have been party too....which the answer would have been no...considering everything I've planned for this character has turned out to be a waste of time and energy. I've lost faith in pvp a long time ago for such situations, nobody writes stories...everybody just wants to kill characters.

I'm not complaining, just stating how I feel. As for level 1....all characters are Knight based, and there is enough canon lore to support Knight ranks can do more than Padawans. But again...interpretations are everything.

Good luck with your Plot story.

Well, @Mortivica, I'm sorry you feel that way. I've certainly never gotten the same sense of bloodthirstieness from this community, and I've been here quiet awhile. Nobody has to engage in PvP if they don't want to, but it's also widely advertised the jumping into open threads with enemies-
especially in such a violent and shocking manner as your character did- can be dangerous. If you want more strictly controlled consent-required conflicts, I recommend sticking to ASK threads. There's a ton of stories going on with no PvP in them. You just have to find your niche here.

You're more than welcome to have a dramatic death post, if that's what you want. I've written both dramatic and ignoble deaths for some of my characters in the past, and it can be am interesting writing experience. Death happens sometimes.

'Tis fine...I read all the guidelines and such now. I have an understanding of the site and it's pvp. I'm not upset or mad....never was.

Good luck with your Plot....I look forward to reading it in its entirety.

Thanks! The next couple threads should be exciting. Good luck with your new character! When you post in the Archive Request thread to have Xiang retired, be sure to link the thread where she died and a brief explanation of what happened. You'll get a credit bonus applied to your new character for being willing to engage in PvP, and you'll also get some of the credits Xiang earned back, so you don't have to start from scratch again.

Hopefully we can face off again in the future @Mortivica.
