The United States is more like a hyperpower as, in some aspects, it is militarily, economically, technologically and culturally dominant all throughut the world. We can be afraid of countries like Russia and such because they have the capability of destroying us, just as we have the ability to destroy them. The same goes with China, because if they sided against us in a war we'd have to face their massive army.
[/b]

wow... if the United states is a hyperpower... then the EU is a super hyperpower and the UK itself is a Uber-super-wtfpwn-hyperpower for the sole fact: Our economy wtfpwns yours :P

edit: Our army is better then yours too! muhuhahahahaha US is UK-Lite ^^

I can see where you are coming from, but I don't think we are the only superpower. Perhaps we are one of the main, but not the main. That is a pretty American view standard. If you get what I mean?

Why do I doubt that your army is better than ours?

Quick question: What is the best/strongest/mightiest Infantry type in the EU military? Ours is the Marines, what's yours?

The EU isn't counted when it comes to superpower status and such because it's not one nation. Were it one nation, then you'd be the most powerful country in the world. The UK has a better CURRENCY (not economy) right now, yes, but currencies always go up and down and there's no way of knowing who will have the better currency next year or the next year or the next year. When it comes to military strength, you guys may have us beat on the prim and proper part of things but we've got you beat on strength. :D

Crazies in the United States certainly flaunt it a lot making it seem like it's an American viewpoint, but in a way it's true. The United States is the only country to fully meet the criteria. It all really depends upon what your definition is. The way I see it, China and India are emerging superpowers and the EU would be a superpower were it to be one unified military.

id rather use a smaller army that is highly skilled and gets the job done then use an army that is large, medium skilled and simply keeps fucking up :P :D

and whats the point in comparing strength :P the day USA goes head to head against the UK is the day the USA and UK gets their arses kicked. What you gonna do. mass send troops against us? we would just throw a nuke down your throat. visa versa. :P :D

I also just edited something in my post so you'll have to go back and look at it again. I edited out economy and put in currency. Writing that you had the better economy didn't seem right, so I pulled out my economics papers from class and looked on Wikipedia and realized something I should have realized before. The United States is in fact the largest national economy as we have the largest GDP. We have something like 25% - 30% of the global market exchange rate.

I would hardly call the U.S. army of medium skill. Look at the leaders when it comes to that. I smell what your stepping in Bac. I suppose the Euro countries are too small. Russia most certainly cannot be counted out of late.

Yeah, Russia is still rebuilding after the fall of the Soviet Union. Once they're fully back in action, I can see them being a superpower once again.

Russia isn't going anywhere with Poutine in charge.

That's because Putin is still living in a world twenty years gone.

Very true. But I also think we are slowly becoming less and less of a superpower. The economy is slowly turning to nothing, and so is foreign policy. A superpower should be able to communicate with everyone around them, and we are breaking down. I don't know how much of this is the Bush administration, but like all empires its only a matter of time until we stop.

...What are you talking about? The marines are bullet sponges. If you want to get blunt, the only reason the Marines exist is to charge enemy fortifications and get gunned down, wearing down the enemy for whenl the actual force arrives. That's why they get the Army's handmedowns. They're not the 'best' infantry we have, the Army is actually better. However, if it comes to Infantry? EU infantry is even better than /that/. They're MUCH more professional, and MUCH more disciplined. They also have a thing called 'National Pride' which most people in the States act like they have, but don't. But if you'd have to list what our best Infantry are, it would /have/ to be the Airborne Rangers. They're the best trained guys we've got, and they've proven their worth time and time again.

The thing is, you can't count on the current numbers that the EU has, as they're currently in a situation of 'Peace'. They're not like the US, they don't suddenly start shoveling huge amounts of money into the Military during peace time.

But yes, our economy is failing due to the economic mentality of the /really/ Lessaiz Faire capitalists in the Republican Party. Outsourcing is never a good idea.

Eh, that's not so bad, we've only got about a million soldiers. However, only about one to two hundred thousand of them are actual combat personelle.

We "shovel" huge amounts of money into the Military during peace time so that we are prepared during war time.

Democrats aren't too smart sometimes. Republicans... they're usually pretty stables, except for that gay guy who got kicked out a while back, what a fuckass he was.

Personally, I'm conservative, but I think there are a few flaws in our bi-party system here. Stupid politics... I suppose it pretty much works though since the U.S. is the uberly dominant world superpower that nobody can touch right now. At the rate we're going, it might not remain that way for much longer... who can say? Not I, most certainly not I.

Calling a gay guy "fuckass" was one of my first clues. That, and saying Scurge was your favorite person.
