"Well... I have to admit that I've had worse landings."

Stepping out of the freighter that had been forced into a crash landing due to a stray Drexl, Lucian had to admit that he was not loving his time on the Demon Moon of Dxun so far. It made sense, considering it's name, but damned if he wasn't at least a little bit annoyed that they hadn't even been able to land nearby to the place they'd selected for their lightsaber forge to be hidden.

But these kinds of journeys tended to be full of adversity anyway so he didn't pay it too much mind. Instead, he made sure that his own lightsaber was secure and undamaged as he looked into the jungle for a moment.

The Force told him that this moon was teeming with life and some of it was rather dark in nature.

A perfect place to hide a lightsaber forge - it's sensation in the force hidden beneath the 'noise' of the moon's life. Equally, the life of said moon was powerful and violent enough that it had another feature.

It provided the forge with natural defences.

Now...

To get through those natural defences.

"Is everyone ready? Should be a simple walk but, well, I doubt simple walks happen very often on places named after mythological monsters."

They were Jedi though - they had this.

Right?

"We're rarely so lucky for things to be simple anywhere" Marina uttered in reply, swatting some bug or another from her clothing as she gathered herself for this next leg of their journey. How so often Jedi missions seemed to start so poorly she wouldn't ever know. But the environment at least, despite its heavy, sweaty, swampy nature reminded her all too clearly of the more forgotten parts of Sahmina's jungles, and for that she was glad. It had to a long, long time since she had returned home, and from all that she could tell now, with the Order's final missions well underway, she wondered if it would ever be truly safe to do so. The leadership there had once willingly accepted the Sith, perhaps they would do it again.

Those who accompanied her now she had far fewer doubts about, good Jedi every one. At least, so they had shown to be in the past. And if Lucian's warnings were anything to go by she'd be kriffing glad to have them here now. Quickly and quietly, that would be their best way to proceed.

With her comment over then, her mind snapped into business, hand leaning against her lightsaber, her eyes darting around. If there truly was danger than it might be well concealed with the jungles that surrounded them, and the crash might have drawn more than a little unwanted attention. She wanted to be ready for the worst, even as she prayed for the best.

Force help them, they just wanted to build a forge. Why that had to be so hard she'd never know.

With the Drexl causing them to crash land far from their destination, any sensible person would likely lose all faith in coming out of that freighter alive. However, Austin Wolfe had seen the uncanny expertise that Lucian possessed while piloting a ship. After colliding roughly into the lush and dangerous moon of Onderon, the doctor patted the shoulder of their pilot as he exited the remains of the craft. "I never doubted you for a moment, Lucian," he stated — leaving its interpretation up to the Knight to decide. "Simple walks are Galahad and my specialty," Austin replied with a wry smile. "Seeing as every one of our adventures were simple ones indeed." Hearty sarcasm dripped from the doctor's words, though they were not malicious. In reality, the fact that their journey to their destination here required five competent Jedi was, in a word, overkill.

Unless, of course, there were swarms upon swarms of beasts ahead of them. Peering deeper through the trees ahead, Austin was unable to tell what exactly lay in their path. "This place is teeming with life — though I am certain this place is not named the 'Demon' moon for naught. It is likely our excellent landing has disturbed a great many beasts that live here." Though the doctor did not draw his lightsaber, he gently placed a hand on its handle to reassure himself that it was still there. As Galahad and Austin had discovered on Ifrane, their weapons were immensely effective against monstrous creatures that preyed on anything that moved.

Looking sideways, the doctor laid eyes on Ralaa — though he was not entirely sure of the details that had befallen her previously, the fact that Galahad and the former Master were working together could prove to be rather awkward. Austin was rather unsure as to Ralaa Talus' thoughts towards Galahad, seeing as he along with Councillor Fennex had essentially uprooted her from her former way of life. The doctor put the thought out of his mind for the time being, as he knew their short trip would require perfect clarity.

The other Jedi had disembarked the ship after their 'safe' landing with little to no worries, seemingly having already forgotten how close they were to becoming a research project mere moments earlier. Behind the group, the pale-faced form of Galahad slowly and shakily stepped off the craft, gripping his staff tightly for stability. It was no secret that the Jedi Master disliked flying, and due to the number of near-deadly crashes he had been in, perhaps it was not without good reason. Following behind the shook Jedi was Felwinter, the Arkanian Dragon that had bonded with him several months ago. No longer a curious hatchling, the exotic reptile had undergone a sudden growth spurt, and was now the size of a large dog. His little needle-like teeth were now razor sharp knives that lined his powerful jaws, and its vicious, hooked claws clicked ominously against the metallic boarding ramp. Where once Galahad felt the need to protect the white lizard, it was now entirely possible that Felwinter would be the one guarding the Jedi. Observing the thickly forested terrain of the moon, the Arkanian Dragon flared his nostrils, his eyes darting about as he quickly processed the new environment.

Pausing near his companions, Galahad rested his hands on his knees, taking several deep breaths to calm his nerves. "No monster or demon on this moon could possibly be worse than flying," he chuckled. The Jedi Master meant no offense to Lucian — in fact, the Jedi pilot had done well in keeping them quite unharmed — but Galahad would rather face a hundred deadly predators than have to endure another crash landing.

Though it was possible that there would be some awkward tension between Galahad and Ralaa, the Jedi Master did not think any less of her because of her investigation. The fact that Ralaa had returned to the Order was a decision that Galahad highly respected. It must not have been an easy choice to completely give up the life she had built — living with Silas and caring for the orphanage. When she could easily have laid aside her lightsaber and lived out the rest of her life on Andara, she instead chose to give it all up and serve the Jedi. Though perhaps she had made mistakes in the past, Galahad knew that she was working hard to make amends, and in his eyes she had already earned her pardon.

Ralaa left the ship in silence, trailing behind Galahad and the others. The former Master chose not to comment on their rough introduction on Dxun, but was sure it had stirred the unwanted attention of whatever
things called these forests home. The moon was damp and rather dismal, and she didn't want to imagine what sorts of creatures thrived in this kind of environment- surely nothing nice, given it's name; the Demons Moon. No, instead of feeding her unease, Ralaa circled their ship and inspected the damage done.

The underside was in disrepair, the metal frame bent beneath the large trees that had braced their landing. However, it didn't seem to be enough to warrant concern about repairs or to keep them stranded here longer than it would take to construct the forge. Of course, Ralaa was far from an engineer and hadn't much experience in repairs- she had been rather fortunate to have not found herself in many positions without working transportation and hoped today wouldn't be different.

"Then let us hope that none of them find us, Master Wolfe." Ralaa offered in a kind tone, a hint of a smile tugged on her lips as she joined the others, pulling the straps of her pack over her shoulders. It was heavy with supplies, the weight pressing her boots into the soft ground as she waited at the base of the ship for everyone else to ready themselves. It seemed that their exciting entrance had shaken the other Jedi, particularly Master Vult who seemed less than impressed with the idea of flying in general- she wondered if he had experienced many crash landings in the past, but didn't think it appropriate to ask.

In fact, she kept any comment about his apparent unease to herself for fear that the now Jedi Master harbored ill-feelings towards her for what had happened. Of course, she didn't harbor any hatred towards him, but he had accompanied Fennex to Andara when the Jedi had come to retrieve her- it hadn't been one of her proudest moments, and she was sure he thought less of her knowing she had made such a mistake. Even so, she tried to keep her apprehensions about the situation hidden and instead offered him a rather awkward and silent smile.

Well they all seemed to know each other and he appreciated that because it meant, to his mind, that they weren't going to need to waste time getting to know and trust one another. With how hostile this damned planet could be, Lucian had literally no doubts that there would be conflict enough outside of their ranks and that messing around would only make it far worse. Seemed that everyone was in agreement, although the landing was still getting some flak.

"Thank you Austin - see Galahad? Some people appreciate it when the pilot gets attacked by a giant flying reptile and manages to not get everyone killed."

He was just playing of course - it had been a terrible landing and he was rather annoyed at himself for the quality of it if he was being entirely honest. As they began to advance towards the cave, they entered the forest proper and it's oppressive aura would surround them as they walked through the thick undergrowth. Already Lucian was cursing the fact that the planet was brimming with so much hostile life as he was having trouble sensing any ill-intent directed at the group, simply because everything on this moon, seemingly, hated everything else on the moon and wanted to consume it.

Perfect for hiding a lightsaber forge and damned annoying for trying to make it to the cave without being jumped by creatures that wanted their blood.

Due to the oppressive nature of the forest and how it scrambled their senses in the Force, the first indication of an attack was the attack itself - five devourers, predatory creatures taken in by the Dark Side, charged out through the undergrowth, each one targeting one of the Jedi. Lucian himself already had his lightsaber out and was on alert - this gave him just enough time to avoid being gored by the charging devourer but diving forwards into a roll.

Bringing his lightsaber up, he struck out as he was coming out of the roll and the blade scorched across the flank of the creature, tearing it open and blinding it with enough pain that the creature's charge carried it into a thick tree, which it ran head-first into. His creature was dying so he had the chance to check how his allies were doing - he would be ready to assist as needs be.

A smile broke onto Austin's face at Lucian's comment to Galahad. At least they were able to have some humour instead of being all doom and gloom in such a dangerous situation. Although Ralaa voiced her hopes, it seemed they were for naught as several monstrous green beasts with strange sharp "chins" and two claws on each leg. Each Jedi was assaulted by one, and Austin commanded his lightsaber to his hand — igniting the azure blade that lit up the foliage around him. As one of the devourers charged toward him at full speed while snarling viciously, the doctor drew the Force within himself and calmed his mind despite the dangers around him. Reaching forward, he shot out a bolt of Electrokinesis, intending on stunning the creature mid-rush. As the arcing energy struck the devourer, the doctor found that he was successful — but that did not stall the beast's trajectory.*

Catapulting headlong into Austin's legs, the Jedi Master was knocked aside as the devourer fell into the dirt and mud. At least it had not been fully capable of attacking, as it would likely have pounced onto the Jedi with the strength of its charge. Recovering enough to advance towards the creature, the doctor now had the advantage as the devourer had lost the speed that would have wounded him greatly. Striking downward with his lightsaber upon the creature, Austin managed to land a mortal wound upon the devourer, but it viciously lashed out in its death throes, damaging the dueling gloves of his right arm.*

However, the doctor was successful. Feeling the adrenaline pumping through his veins, he turned to view the others who were likely also embroiled in combat. "I see I spoke too soon," Austin called out. "Let us hope that we are not beset by anything worse, such as the Drexl I have heard terrible rumours about."

Finally having caught his breath, Galahad stood once more to properly survey the landscape around their landing zone. Despite his typically excellent observational skills, the ex-temple guard was unable to see past the dense undergrowth. His well-attuned senses also proved to be quite useless due to the sheer amount of feedback from the demon moon, ultimately leaving him feeling blind and unprepared for combat. Summoning his lightsaber to his palm, Master Vult kept a tight guard, readying himself as best he could for the wildlife’s imminent attack.

It was well that he had prepared himself so, because not a minute later the group of Jedi were suddenly attacked by a fierce pack of devourers, one of the ravenous beasts barrelling towards Galahad. With only a moment to register the attack, the bearded Jedi reflexively dodged to the side to avoid the devourer’s path of destruction. While he barely managed to escape the snapping jaws of the beast, his weak leg prevented him from fully escaping its charge, causing him to collide with the devourer’s scaled body and fall roughly to the ground.* Instantly recognizing the danger he was in, Galahad scrambled to return to his feet and defend himself, but there was no need. Before the devourer had recovered from its initial attack, Felwinter launched himself at the predator, latching onto the underside of its neck with his powerful jaws and spewing a torrent of flames while simultaneously ripping the rest its body to shreds with his viciously sharp claws.*

Pulling himself to his feet, Galahad huffed, ”Good work, Felwinter,” while simultaneously mentally extending his feelings of gratitude and admiration to the bloodstained Arkanian Dragon. Felwinter crooned lowly, his chest puffing slightly with pride. That was the dragon’s first kill, and it was likely to be far from his last. Having regained his bearings, Galahad directed his attention to the others, prepared to assist them if need be.

As the brush and scrub to their side tire open to the sight of gaping maws and thrashing limbs Marina suddenly felt what it was like to be on the other side of an ambush. Plenty in her time she’d laid, guerilla fighting meant strength and surprise just like this, but back then she was the one doing the surprising. It was one of the better ways to deal with Sith, or so they’d found. The force could detect a lot, but enough fire lain down without warning fell almost anyone. And kriff, in the rebellion it was kill or be killed. A motto she swore off now, she was a far different person these days.

Still, as a Jedi her senses were a little more in tune than many, though much like those around her the appearance of the creatures equally took her by surprise.

Igniting her lightsaber in an instant, she flicked out her free hand and lifted the creature from its feet, disorienting it, and tearing it toward her rippling blade that would make short work of the monsters' flesh, its gnashing teeth and claws going lifeless as the energy went out of the thing. However, as clean as a lightsaber cut could be, it wouldn't stop everything, like the nasty, burning liquid that eschewed forth from the dying creatures belly. It sprayed across Marina, bubbling against her armour and burning right through parts of it.

That bit of kit had been with her through many years, revolutions on Sahmina to the fight against the Warmaster on Tython, and further still. Everytime she'd repaired it, stitched it back together to serve her next mission. And beneath the noxious innards of the devourer it burned away.

Steadying her breathing after the attack, she sighed. She'd fix it again, she knew she couldn't ever let it go, but it'd be useless while they remained on Dxun, and that left her feeling very exposed for if anything snuck up on them again. She kept her senses reached out just in case.

She hadn't the time to prepare herself for what would come next. In fact, she hadn't even felt the beasts approaching, their presence concealed by the forests which were dense with life and the Force. The sounds of their bodies tearing through the thick brush drew her attention, providing her only enough time to stumble out of its path. The beast, which dripped in darkness, came to a sliding halt as it realized it had missed its target and let out an earth shaking cry as it turned around to face her. Ralaa felt small in comparison, but took a deep breath to calm herself as she reached for the hilt of her lightsaber and ignited the pale yellow blade.

Drawing her blade across her body, Ralaa took a defensive position and waited for the devourer to charge a second time. Her eyes were locked, feet spread to hold her ground as it hesitated a moment and then closed the distance between them. The moment he was close enough, she thrust her blade into its side and felt the force of him as he pushed her back towards the treeline. It was hard not to lose her balance, her boots dragged through the mud as the devourer cried out and pulled upward to withdraw from her attack, leaving its belly exposed.

Ralaa ducked to avoid being hit by the beast in its panic and, when the moment came, she took advantage of its exposed underside and tore through its scaled flesh, nearly gutting him. The attack lasted only a minute, but it had seemed to play out in slow motion- Ralaa watched him fall, moving out from under him to avoid being drowned in the mud. The devourer gave a grunt and then fell silent and unmoving.

"I didn't anticipate that," she admitted with a heavy breath, looking to see that everyone else was safe.

"Well that was exciting."

Lucian would be lying if he said he had expected this ambush but he was very glad that it was, in fact, over. Taking a moment to stab the creature he'd given a lethal wound to, he put the creature out of it's suffering with the mercy kill before extinguishing his lightsaber and looking around at the rest of the group.

Indeed, it seemed that they were all successful in fending off the attacks but it was always best to confirm with your allies as to their current state rather than just assume.

"Everyone alright?" he called out to the group, "If you're not, say something and we'll hold up to assist. Either we all make it to this cave or none of us do."

Once it was confirmed that the rest of the group was alright, Lucian would nod before leading the group onwards again, with his lightsaber ignited and cutting through the undergrowth that would bar their path. As they approached the cave, Lucian held up a hand and used some hand signals to signal the other Jedi to be quiet as they approached the edge of the forest, looking at the small clearing in front of the cave.

Resting in the middle of the clearing, between them and the cave entrance, was a mother and father Zakkeg, looking after four of their young.

Lucian knew well enough that nesting Zakkeg were viciously territorial.

"Alright... we don't want to kill them so... two of us each try and calm one of the adult Zakkeb each so we can pass into the cave without incident. Ralaa, with me, Galahad and Austin together and Marina, if you could keep the young ones calm?" he took a deep breath and centred himself in the Force, "Here we go..."

Using the Force, he reached out to the mind of the Father but already it was beginning to notice his efforts and he would need Ralaa to do well in order to calm him, or else they would have a rampaging Zakkeg on their hands.

“Oh yeah, ugh, fine, never been better” she replied sarcastically as she rapidly wiped as much of the bubbling ooze from her clothing. As nasty as jungles, and jungle planets for that matter, could be, she hadn’t been expecting that. A lesson to be learnt then sure. Though if that lesson was ‘expect the unexpected’ she wouldn’t be happy about it. Far to trite, she always thought. Kriff, if all it amounted to was ‘don’t slice a devoured’ than really would have to be it. For now though she gave Lucian a nod, and deactivated her lightsaber, ready to move on. She worried the hum might draw more predators, though it seemed they wouldn’t have to wait for long to run into more beasts along the way.

And a family of creatures at that. Her heart sank as Lucian mentioned not killing them. She agreed, but it was a reminder of how casually she let some things die, and others not, how quickly lives seemed to get lost in the cracks. Something for her to consider. Perhaps she’d write a text about it, something for generations of Jedi to consider in the future.

That said, at Lucian direction she acted as requested. It only made sense. And though the Zakkegs’ mind was so foreign to her, especially given they were children, she managed to find a point of contact between them. There was probably those out there who could explain what was occurring, but to her... it felt like empathy, like finding a point of view where none used to exist, and then filling it out with her own self, her own thoughts mingling with the creatures. The children would stir no more, instead their gaze diverted to the floor, and stated there a long, long time. She would stay connected as long as she could until it was time to teach others. Here, Marina felt more connected than many times. Perhaps one day it would be worth doing similar with her fellow Jedi.

Though Galahad was prepared to fend off any more of the beasts that had beset the Jedi, he quickly saw that there was no need. The others had proven their skill in battle despite their severe disadvantage in being unable to anticipate the ambush before it was upon them. "I am well. Let us continue," Galahad replied to Lucian. Though some of them had received minor injuries, they were all prepared to continue the mission nonetheless.

Though they did not have to travel too far through the thick undergrowth to reach their destination it seemed that their progress would be halted once again as more dangerous beasts lay in their path. Crouching down, and remaining as quiet as possible, Galahad was pleased to note that he did not have to somehow reiterate the warning to Felwinter as well. Having already smelled the pack of beasts ahead of them, the dragon had crouched down as if stalking prey, the tip of his tail flicking in agitation and the spines on his back raised aggressively. Turning his gaze back towards the cave, the bearded Jedi peered around Lucian to better discern the pack. Though he was not personally familiar with this species, Galahad would have been surprised indeed if they were not the moon's alpha predators, with giant maws and well-armoured hides. Bypassing them with sheer force, though possible, would likely result in heavy casualties. Thankfully Knight Volante had a similar train of thought, and suggested that they attempt to calm the beasts with the Force instead.

Looking sidelong at Austin, Master Vult tapped two fingers to his temple then pointed at the doctor, signalling that he wished to meld minds. Once the two of them had done so, Galahad stretched out his consciousness into that of the female Zakkeg. Though he was far from understanding the less sentient mind of a predatory beast, he'd had some practice communicating with them by raising Felwinter.
⋮⋮ Imprint upon its mind feelings of peace and tranquility, ⋮⋮ he relayed to Austin shortly before doing so himself. While he managed to prevent the Zakkeg from being openly hostile, it instead grew fearful of the intruders, and would likely startle the others if Austin did not assist the ex-guard.*

Having swiftly dealt with the devourer that assaulted him, Austin whirled around to survey the others. He turned in time to watch the Arkanian Dragon's ferocious display of savagery against the green creature that dared threaten its "parent". Visibly impressed, the doctor gave Galahad a smile and a quick nod of assurance before the five Jedi continued onward. As this jungle was clearly full of predators, Austin did not want to make any more noise than was absolutely necessary so as to stay relatively undetected. What a legacy he would leave behind indeed if the Jedi Master were cut down and made some beast's lunch for the day. Extinguishing his blue-hued lightsaber and replacing it to its spot on his belt, Austin kept his senses open and prepared for the worst.

What met his eyes, however, was a nest that was the home of a family of Zakkeg. The doctor had heard tales of these creature's formidable hide — if they should anger these beasts, a tough fight would be ahead of them indeed. Especially as the mother and father would almost certainly fight with even more ferocity to protect their young. Listening to Lucian, Austin nodded in affirmation and spread out quietly to ensure his efforts would be the most effective. A voice echoed in his mind — the familiar one of Galahad. It dawned upon the doctor that his fellow Jedi Master would have much more experience in this field, seeing as he had trained Felwinter using the same method for quite some time. Austin would have suggested that the two enter into a Mind Meld to maximize the effectiveness of their efforts, but his companion clearly had the same idea and signaled they should do so first. Closing his eyes and reaching out, Austin merged his mind with Galahad and they worked together to subtly influence the Zakkeg before the Jedi.

The combined efforts of the two Jedi Masters proved to be immensely successful, with the creature lowing contentedly and laying down for a happy nap.* To the doctor's eyes, he could tell the young ones were equally as calmed by Marina's efforts — but even if one Zakkeg were to become aggressive, it could prove very difficult to calm down. All the doctor could do for the moment was hope and have faith that the Force would guide their actions.

Ralaa recovered rather well from the unexpected attack, having left with nothing more than a pair of muddied boots and a racing heart. She counted herself fortunate, but knew better than to let her guard down now- it was too easy to fall victim to the creatures that inhabited these forests. So, she kept her hilt in hand as Lucian led them through the dense and swamp-like forests of Dxun, her eyes searching for any hint of trouble as they progressed. Though, for a while all was quiet and she was content to continue forwards without conversation. However, they didn't need to travel far before another obstacle struck them, perhaps trickier than the last.

In front of them, nested in the center of the clearing, were two Zakkeg and their four young. Lucian signaled for them to approach in silence, his voice low as he instructed them to separate and calm the creatures so that they might pass to the caves that stood behind their nest. It seemed easy enough, though Ralaa had to admit she knew little about Zakkeg or their temperament- it was hard to determine how they might react if approached directly.

"Calm them so that we can pass into the caves. Understood." Ralaa followed behind Lucian, their attention focused on the male Zakkeg who already seemed alerted to their presence.

Drawing upon the Force and combined with Lucians efforts, she attempted to direct calming energies to the Zakkeg, but it didn't appear to be successful. He stood tall, his attention directed to them hidden in the brush. It wasn't hard to see that the creature was on high alert, seeking them out with his eyes and preparing to defend its nest. Ralaas hand tensed around her hilt, looking to Lucian beside her.

"I hope you have a secondary plan."

By the Force, why was it that, out of all of them here, he had failed the hardest? Ralaa had done well but the Zakkeg they were in charge of soothing was still alert because he hadn't done well enough. In the end, this meant that they would need to harm the Zakkeg family and he was loath to do that.

"This isn't going to work..."

With his own motivation lacking, he took a deep breath before pushing himself into a dead sprint, charging across the clearing to the Zakkeg that he and Ralaa had been supposed to be calming down. He got to it's side, shielded by it's bulk from the gaze of the others, and before it could alert the others, he touched the side of it's face.

Well he had been wrong... it did work.

Slowly, the Zakkeg wavered before sitting down slowly and lowering it's head, falling asleep. The added proximity had helped Lucian really nail the compulsion to sleep. He sighed a sigh of relief and gestured for the others to come out as he glanced at the entrance to the cave.

"If anyone wants to back out... now's the last time."

He doubted anyone would.
