That, boys is the German Iron Cross, awarded to those who show true valor and one of the highest military awards possible that any one of you can earn. If you can live long enough to earn it. The Iron Cross more than symbolizes your bravery and actions beyond the call of duty: girls will gaze at you lovingly, men will tip their hats off for you and pay for you beer! "That sounds great!" you say. Well, it is.
"But Herr Hauptmann, how do I earn this Iron Cross?" You ask? Head down to your local recruitment center, take this sheet of paper and fill in your details. From there, it's a one way trip to awards, medals and to become the most respected person in your community! What else are you waiting for? Hear your Fatherland calling out for you to pick up your arms! Become a soldier, make your country proud and become more than man. . .become an Ubermensch!*
*Army experience may change during real life combat, the Wehrmacht does not take any responsibility for any deaths or injuries sustained in the line of duty. **
**This is an ESRB Joke.

Roles Available: Rifleman
Roster:
Now, the reason why the only available starting roles are rifleman is to provide the players with a sense of progression. Roles, like ranks will be doled out to any player's characters who perform and meet certain criterias in the upcoming combat thread. What does this mean? This means you have to make poor Hans work for that sweet machinegunner's role, or maybe even become a squad leader. Later on as the RP progresses, as each person's character sits down together remembers how everyone first began as fresh faced riflemen now looks around and sees how the skinny kid leads a squad, the slow one carries the machine gun- that in itself, I will argue is infinitely more satisfying than simply having written out backstory for their character.
And given that this is a war, do not be afraid to have your character die mid way through the RP. This is war: veterans die just as quick as a fresh faced private who just dropped in as a replacement. Because of this, you are allowed to make another character on the go (writing a small biography if possible) and continue from there as a replacement, fresh faced or even another existing member of another squad.
Another thing to note is equipment distribution. Because even as late as 1945, not everybody gets cool weapons immediately: either you earn them, or in this scenario, will be given via random draw. This is to avoid players suddenly claiming their characters have specialized weapons or gear not readily available to them. 2 random players will be given a semiautomatic rifle (G43 or G41, up to the player), one player gets the riflegrenade cup attachment and another with the squad's panzerfaust.
We role play human beings caught up in service to their country, not the weapons they are armed with.
As a side note, not everyone may be well versed with the tactical philosophies of the German squad, or even mannerisms/proper organizations. Do not despair, for there are numerous sites which can help you, such as Der Erste Zug and Alan Hamby for those who are unsure how the rank progression system works.[/fancybox2]
