The 100-mile-wide border zone is from that earlier missive from the ACLU in 2008, which claimed the electronics-search zone applied to any person who lived within 100 miles of a land or sea border—which happens to be two-thirds of the American population. At the time, the ACLU labeled the area as the “Constitution-free zone.”

“The Fourth Amendment mandates that a search or seizure conducted by a government agent must be ‘reasonable.’ As a general rule, courts have construed Fourth Amendment reasonableness as requiring probable cause and a judicially granted warrant. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court has recognized several exceptions to these requirements, one of which is the border search exception.”

Well then...this makes me somewhat...uncomfortable, to say the least. Also, the lack of media coverage on major news stations is also interesting.

The only Constitution-Free Zone I was aware of was Illinois.

The article seems a bit inflated, but the problem is there nonetheless. Unsettling.

They never talk about this kind of stuff in the major media. Its all controlled by the same people who made the "Constitution free zone" an actual thing. I never saw anything about the NDAA in the media either, and what I did see pertaining to Snowden was entirely slanted and bias. They only tell the majority of the populous what they want them to know, but they still release the information in just small enough quantities to where they can say they're not hiding it and still have the majority largely unaware.

It's an awful thing.

Major news stations don't cover this, not because they want to hide the truth, but because it doesn't make for an interesting story. This problem has been around for years, and the ACLU is battling to take it away. Until then, what can major news do? Would it be better to report this to death, inflating everything to get attention, or try and see if the ACLU can handle it first?
"In today's report, 2/3rds the American population has a constitutional right revoked!"
"Gosh newslady, that's bad, what can I do?"
"Nothing!"
"..."

Then the story is forgotten and put into the box of 'not news worthy'

Uh...what? Not news worthy? And obviously things can be done. You can contact your local government, you can protest, you can explode Parliament. Complacency isn't a proper response to this level of Orwellian bullshit. If the people are made aware, and react this would be moving along much faster. Governments should be afraid of their people, not the other way around.

@Crosby: I've been considering Colorado for a good long while, more-so now.

Also as a lawyer... eh. This sort of shit has been going on for essentially years now. Sucks, I guess, but I don't exactly blame people for complacency when living standards and so forth have been ground down for the last few decades.
