Diamonds in the Rough is a faction designed for the upcoming SWRP timeline reboot. Information regarding specifics of next timeline represented in this write up is mere speculation based on what has been hinted at and discussed in this thread, and will be adjusted accordingly once more information is given by the admins.

We have no allegiance, no philosophy, no ideology. We go where we're needed, fighting, not for government, but for ourselves. We need no reason to fight. We fight because we are needed. We will be the deterrent for those with no other recourse. We are soldiers without borders, our purpose defined by the era we live in. We will sometimes have to sell ourselves and services. If the times demand it, we'll be revolutionaries, criminals, terrorists. And yes, we may all be headed straight to hell. But what better place for us than this? It's our only home.

The Diamonds in the Rough PMC is a faction that will provide a setting for those who wish to partake in military threads and RPs without being weighed down by all the red tape and political nonsense that comes with working for the government. Those of you wishing to join come from many different backgrounds and ideologies. Cast away these prior allegiances, for they have no meaning in Diamonds in the Rough. Here, you fight for the man or woman beside you, all for the highest bidder.Intent
To the senators, you’re a relic: something to cast aside now that an “age of peace” has been brought to the Republic. But here? You’ll be a valuable commodity. There are clients all over the galaxy who will need our services.
To those of you who fought for the Sith, you would have been forgotten by the times, victims to the victors who write history. But by being a part of Diamonds in the Rough, you will not be forgotten. Here, you will stand the test of time as men and women who will vanguard a new age of business through military assets.
It is my hope that forgotten soldiers will find a place among us, and continue to be valuable to the galaxy at large well into the future.
Diamonds in the Rough, being a Private Military Company, aims to provide mercenary services to those who can afford them. With the galaxy at "peace" following the establishment of the Grand Republic, the senators and galaxy at large believe there is little use for the common soldier, but the galaxy is never truly at peace.
Soldiers of Diamonds in the Rough will undertake missions that provide security and deterrence for those who have been forgotten by armed forces of the Republic, or to those burned by the fires of the Sith. These missions will involve personal security, bodyguard duty, defense against pirates, and other similar operations. The company will also provide its services to large governments if offered.
While operating in the field, soldiers will operate under a strict no-civilian-casualties rule, as well as no excessive collateral damage.
Diamonds in the Rough was founded by ex-Republic soldier Soloman Sudime shortly after his resignation. He became disillusioned with the Republic's leadership, believing their declaration of galactic peace a grave mistake. Though he considered staying to join the Border Alliance, Soloman believes them to be nothing more than a formality: A group designed by the Senate to keep those who cry out for a standing army quiet. Nonetheless, Soloman turned his back on his former government and drifted across the galaxy, working as a mercenary for whoever paid the best.
After gaining a decent reputation and number of contacts among the mercenary world, Soloman pooled his resources along with his fellow mercenaries to establish the Private Military Company known as Diamonds in the Rough. In the beginning, Diamonds in the Rough took small scale jobs warranted for their size, seen as nothing more than a simple Private Security Force. They continued to work, however, gathering a larger reputation, and working to grow their name to help attract prospective members and contracts.
Now, due to an increased number of recruits (as well as the acquisition of a small fleet), the PMC is eager to deploy on a larger scale, and make their mark upon the galaxy and its inhabitants.
Members of Diamonds in the Rough are divided into companies based on skill sets, which are further divided into specialized teams. Diamonds in the Rough currently consists of two companies: Alpha Company (provides combat capabilities) and Omega Company (provides mission support and Intel). The two companies have one specialized team each: the Combat Team and Intel Team, respectively.
Combat Team (Alpha Company)
The Combat Team is the backbone of Diamonds in the Rough. This team undertakes many of the public contracts (such as VIP escorts and pirate hunting), but also deals with "wet work." The backgrounds of the members varies, as each new recruit brings their own set of skills with them, but within Diamonds in the Rough, they all are subjected to further training.
Combat Team training involves combat exercises, ranging from target practice to simulated battles, to keep skills sharp and on par with larger military forces. The team's training is structured to promote teamwork; Cooperation is key when on high risk operations, and soldiers of Diamonds in the Rough know that they can count on the man beside them.
Currently, starfighter pilots are part of the Combat Team, as are Naval personnel. Though these two groups are, obviously, functionally different than the rest of the Combat Team, they also receive basic training alongside their normal duties. This means that, if the situation demands, they'll be able to fend for themselves in combat situations and even bolster ground forces. Due to this, it's not uncommon to see Naval personnel and airmen volunteering for ground combat assignments. In the most extreme situations, where the bulk of Diamond forces are required to deal with a situation, these men, women and personnel of other species will take up arms. A skeleton crew will be left behind in its stead to continue fleet operations.
Overall, the Combat Team is responsible for completion of contracts, fleet defense (i.e. Anti-boarding parties and starfighter defense), and offensive fleet actions (i.e. Boarding action, starfighter dogfights, and bombing runs.
Intel Team (Omega Company)
Whereas the Combat Team is structured for flexibility in terms of operations, the Intel Team provides a more specific function to Diamonds in the Rough: the collection and distribution of intelligence. Through the gathering of intelligence, the Intel Team functions to increase the chances of success to deployed operatives. The accurate information the Intel Team provides is more than enough to save the lives of many of Diamonds in the Rough's members. There are many techniques that the Intel team employs to acquire information: going undercover, hacking enemy networks, deploying on infiltration missions, interrogation of enemy prisoners, just to name a few.
Due to the specialized nature of the Intel Team, their training is structured to accommodate that. Successful infiltrations involve the ability to blend into the surroundings effectively, be it in an urban setting or amongst enemy personnel, and the blanket term for this training is called, “etiquette training.” Intel Operatives will learn how to act accordingly among the different cultures they will encounter.
While the Intel Team is not a combat-centric unit, they still participate in physical conditioning. Team members can frequent shooting ranges, hand-to-hand sparring sessions, and survival training. A unique skill set that the Intel Team has at their disposal, however, is parkour. Operatives may sometimes meet obstacles (with this being a literal usage of the term) that require circumventing to get to and complete their objectives. Be them cliff scaling or running across rooftops, the Intel Team will have the skill set to surpass said obstacles.
A note about Force users: While Diamonds in the Rough is, at its core, a faction for soldiers and the like, this does not mean that Force-sensitives are barred from joining. Anyone with combat experience is more than welcome, but do know the Diamonds in the Rough won’t have a dedicated training regimen to hone Force related skills at the beginning. Though later on, through expansions and a growing number of Force sensitives in the ranks, a team may be formed to accommodate those seeking training in the ways of the Force.
Diamonds in the Rough prefers a more liberal and open structure, not wanting to tie down its members with a long and arduous ranking system. Instead, the ranking system is small, allowing for freedom of mission assignments. Seniority is given during missions depending on individual skill level.
Commander
The Commander of Diamonds in the Rough is tasked with the upkeep and maintenance of the PMC. He/she handles a majority of the recruitment efforts and ensures the PMC has a steady flow of contracts and missions for members to undertake. The commander also ensures that Alpha company runs smoothly, and is operating efficiently.
Though the position requires a lot of time and effort to be put into paperwork and logistics, it is not uncommon to see the Boss participating in his/her fair share of missions.
Subcommander
One of the members of Diamonds in the Rough who has gone above and beyond, demonstrating their aptitude on assignments as well as their loyalty to the PMC. The Subcommander works closely with the Commander to ensure smooth operation of the PMC, as well as recruitment of new members. The Subcommander is also tasked with heading Omega Company.
Similar to the Commander, it is not uncommon for the Subcommander to participate in missions and contracts.
Veteran
Members who have fought and proven themselves significantly, deeming the acquisition of a new rank. Veterans are well respected within the PMC, and are looked upon for leadership both on the field and at home.
Member
All soldiers, Intel agents, naval personnel and other personnel are members of Diamonds in the Rough. Missions and contracts are distributed evenly among members based upon skill and mission requirements. Diamonds in the Rough is an equal opportunity PMC, and all members will be placed upon the same level.
Contract work is the lifeblood of Diamonds in the Rough, as it is through these that the majority of their income is derived. Early work came in the form of small time trading companies and entities, and Diamonds in the Rough continues to look after “the little guy” when called upon. Recently, the commander of the PMC, Soloman Sudime, has been looking into generating some higher end contracts for the company. He has been reaching out through old contacts and past customers to spread the word of a rising military company operating out of the Outer Rim in hopes of gaining traffic.
The process of hiring Diamonds in the Rough is a relatively easy one: Whoever has the means of contacting the PMC gets in touch with the Commander and/or Subcommander, and works out the details for the prospective contract. This can, and more than likely will, include what the job is, how long the job will last, what kind of payout will be involved upon completion of the job, and if the relationship will last past completion. Clients are allowed to stay in “the recordbook,” and may present to the PMC more than one job at a time. How the client goes about the relationship is up to their discretion.
OOC Note: Contracts will be presented to the members of the faction as missions. Just like other the other factions, members may sign up for whatever mission they wish. They are expected to be done in a timely manner. Personal and Faction rewards will be distributed upon completion of the mission thread.
In the beginning, contracts will be given to the PMC through NPC entities, and be small in scale. However, the goal is to become well known enough to warrant cooperative missions with other members of the site. When it comes to that, whoever wishes to hire the faction will contact either the Commander (Faction Leader) or Subcommander (Assistant Faction Leader) to work out the mission. These will be beneficial to both parties.
While the majority of contracts will be worked out between the Faction Leader(s) and the “clients,” members are encouraged to come up with missions themselves. If a member has an idea for a mission, they can bring it before the Faction Leader for review and approval. Also, if a member wishes to create a cooperative contract with another member of the site, the two interested parties are brought before the Faction Leader for approval. While the mission details are up to the faction member and the “client,” the reward will be worked out and discussed between the Faction Leader and the “client.”
