DESCRIPTION​

The Discril-class attack cruiser is a small capital ship which was originally designed and built by the Daupherm Planet States, a small nation comprising roughly 30 star systems in the Galaxy's Deep Core region. The DPS was considered technologically backward at the time the Discril class was designed, and thus these ships incorporate a great deal of obsolete technology in their design, including a main armament of powerful but difficult to use tri-particle beamer cannons. Despite this, the Discril was the main warship employed by the Daupherm Marine Corps during the Galactic Civil War, during which their nation was nominally an Imperial vassal state.

Discril-class attack cruisers are fairly unimpressive as main-line warships go. 85 meters in length, they are somewhat reminiscent of the Corellian Engineering Corporation's YT-series freighters, although much larger. As mentioned, their main armament consists of 4 heavy tri-particle beamers, extremely bulky and difficult to aim weapons which are roughly analogues to conventional heavy laser cannons in power. Other weapons include a pair of forward medium laser cannons in a vertically traversing mount, a matching pair aft, and a pair of concussion missile launchers, each equipped with 10 missiles. The ship's crew, owing to the low-tech nature of the design and its lack of sophisticated automation, is a minimum of 75 personnel, with 150 being considered necessary for combat duty. In addition, 50 passengers can be carried, generally marines for planetary landings or boarding actions. The ship has a fairly average top speed of 50 MGLT, and is equipped with a class 3 primary hyperdrive.

Since the Galactic Civil War, the Daupherm Planet States have made efforts to modernize their increasingly obsolete navy. By the present day, they have retired most of their Discril-class attack cruisers, placing most in deep storage pending a future upgrade program. In the meantime, however, a number have been sold on the open market, and have been snapped by even more backward navies, low-rent mercenaries, pirates and other independent spacers. Though not terribly up to date, they can still be dangerous ships in the hands of a competent commander.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Discril-class attack cruisers are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons. As such, civilian owners will require extra licensing to operate one legally, and will receive increased scrutiny by authorities.

Discril-class attack cruisers are considered capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They may be acquired as faction assets, however, or by a group of at least 2 individual characters who work together regularly.
