"Let's see..." Shayla said, eyes wandering around the room. "I could always tell you to pick up that rock over there or something if it comes down to that, but it's just so boring. Hmm." She paused. What to do? It was her bright idea to tell the kid to stop crying so they could focus on Force training, so it was only natural that she should have some inkling of what to do next. Unfortunately, she only said that to get Rachel to shut up. Crying never failed to cause her to cringe. It had to be those Sephi ears, yeah, that was it. Damned things were too big and picked up everything.

"Um, there is a lot of stuff you can do with the Force," she said, fishing for some sort of an explanation while her mind raced to decide what to do next. "You see, there is this nice line between good and evil that exists with the Force. You use the Force to choke someone to death and you're evil. You use it to heal up some scrapes and bruises and you're good. But that doesn't really make sense since, in a fight, I'm going to use whatever I can to take my enemy down. So, in some situations, that really nice line can be a bit muddled.

"But it's really a case-by-case kind of thing. You can't go around spewing lightning while preaching niceties and expect people to call you a rational, serene individual. You have to balance it all out, using the darker aspects only when necessary. I do what I have to do in a fight, and some people see it the same way as me too, but there are others who see it way differently. I don't wanna tell you how I think it should be used and knock your opinion out of the park just because I don't personally think the same way, so I'll let you decide how you want to view it. Some people see the Force as a defined set of decorum to be used strictly as is, while others view it in a more liberal light.

"I think, if you want, you can mix the views a bit to find your comfort zone, but some of those cranky old Masters might get on your case for it." That's it! She almost jumped by how suddenly the idea hit her, but even so she tried to appear calm, slightly bored. "So I'll give you a taste of each ability and we'll go from there. Let's start with one of the 'good' abilities so no one can say I'm a bad influence." She winked at Rachel.

"First things first, this move is called 'Force Valor'. It's a cool little move that uses the Force to enhance the strength of your muscles, which, depending on where you focus it, can have a variety of effects. I like to focus it in my legs and arms to give me an edge in combat. No one expects someone like me to go toe-to-toe with a strongman and come out on top. It just feels good to be able to throw someone twice your size out of a window," she laughed on. "To get started, focus all of your energy inwards, just like you did when you threw the saber. Except, instead of releasing it in a single burst, let it flow continuously into your arms. It might take a few tries, so find your center and approach it like an unfolding flower. Let the layers peel away slowly and the nectar inside is that much sweeter for the effort." In the approaching calm, it was difficult to hear anything other than the deepening breathing of the young-looking woman.

Rachel listened intently, still calming herself from her previous fit, and took in what her master said. Her theory about the use of the force did make sense. It may not have been what she always heard when she was younger, but back then she had never really known somebody quite like Shayla. Rachel had to agree with her, too. There had always seemed to be a thin line between good and evil: if you used a "dark power" to kill an evil person, was that not good? Questions like that had always bothered Rachel when presented with them. It was good to know her master could address them, at least in some part.

Force Valor sounded quite exciting, and interesting, as well. Honestly, who would ever be expecting a girl like Rachel to take on some walking wall of a thug, and win? That power could really come in handy. So Rachel began to clear her mind, taking in what Shayla said. She had to focus: control her energy to release it, almost like a flowing river, and use that to strength her limbs. The room fell silent and Rachel closed her eyes, balancing her head.

An unfolding flower like the one Shayla had talked about was a good mental image. Slowly, Rachel focused on the small, and beautiful plant. One by one, each of it's perfect litte leaves pealed away, and she got ever closer to the center. Meanwhile the Force inside her was starting to flow, gather slowly. Of course, since she was a trainee, this was a very tenous situation, and even the slightest thing could probably throw her off right now.
