Commander @Markus Varo went missing during a covert mission. Until now, nobody missed him. During an Imperial Security Bureau check in another matter, he wasn't found though. Of course, nobody expected to hear from him immediately. But this matter was important, so they attempted to reach out.

About a week ago an intelligence officer noticed something significant. On the Holonet a footage of an Imperial Commander went around. Unfortunately it took a while, but finally today it had been connected to Varo.

Jayscreec sat down with Tomic to watch the scene. "The scumbag cut his hands off." He said, scoffing.
"I want to know who's this Zemass worm of the Hutt." The violent footage ended with Varo being dumped in the desert. "It looks like he survived the fall. Do you think he could still be alive?"

Anyhow, the job required a good slicer to identify the transmission's source. Fortunately for the agents, the Empire had the best scientists. Those who refused to work for them, were eventually convinced.

"I will talk to my supervisor to let us open a case on this," Jayscreec said. "Can I ask you to help, Tomic? We need to find a good slicer. Once we pinpoint this, the rescue mission shouldn't be hard. I will dig up everything I can about Atrer III from the archives."

Tomic watched the video of the agent losing a hand with a small frown as his own replacement twitched. Almost as though the prosthetic knew that he was thinking about it and the loss of the hand in the first place. Unlike Varo, Tomic's hand had not been cut off cleanly in battle but instead he had taken a blaster bolt to it. Rather than cleanly losing the hand, he had had to lose his during surgery due to the absolute mess it had been due to the blaster bolt.

He clenched his metallic fist.

"If he is still alive then he's done well to remember his survival training."

He doubted that the man was alive if he was honest considering how long ago the event had actually been but he had been wrong before so he wasn't going to be shouting that as truth. Tomic sighed a little bit and glanced at Jay.

"Maybe I just wanted to spend my shore leave bothering the local girls. Ever thought about that?"

Shaking his head, Tomic smiled a little bit.

"This is going to end in blaster fire... fine, I'm in."

"And it looks like I am too," came the even-toned voice of a woman to the sound of approaching boots.

Agent Kat Solari, a broad-built human of average height and dressed for a laboratory, slid into a seat beside the two other Impirial Agents. "Dr. Kat Solari, tech specialist and your new partner, assigned by the Commissioner himself. I understand we have a rescue mission on our hands, gentlemen?"

The woman looked from one man to the other, to see how the seasoned Agents would react to her introduction.

Tech specialist. Jayscreec nodded in an impressed way. It was fake, but slightly on purpose. He wanted to give Kat a hard time first. Atrer III is dangerous, anyone going there has to stand up for herself.
"Hey I didn't ask for coffee," Jayscreec said. He starred at her then flashed his teeth. "What kind of tech specialist?"
The team needed a slicer, a good slicer on board. The seats were incredibly limited, because not a single officer would launch a mission to rescue the rescue team.
"We need a slicer to pinpoint this transmission. Currently we know when and where it came from. A couple weeks. Do you think you'll get a general idea, Doctor Kat Solari?"

Jayscreec spent the next couple hours in the archives again. He learned about Atrer III's conditions enough, but the Hutt was still a misery. In one of their breaks he approached Tomic.

"It looks like this place's hell. First of all it's the planet. It's nature has nothing good for us. Second, it's the people. Outlaws. If we're lucky, the only person we meet is Varo."

Huh.

A tech specialist who was a doctor huh? Seemed kind of like an over-qualification in his book. Who needed to be a doctor to be a tech guy when you could just, you know, have some kind of background in hacking or slicing or whatever. He decided he wasn't going to mention that she might have wasted years of her life though.

"Nice to meet you doc."

No reason not to be civilized.

Upon hearing more about the planet they were going too...?

"I like it." he declared with a grin, "Everything is out to get us so we know everything is a target. Collateral damage is acceptable because on this rock it'll all be enemy!"

There was always a bright side.

Doctor- now Agent- Solari ignored Agent Alecwit's coffee comment. She didn't know what he meant by it, but presumed it was something stupid and decided instead to answer his questions.

"Any kind you need; I'm a double-major in Software and Mechanical Engineering."

She watched as he told her exactly what he needed and cocked an eyebrow. "If you've already got the location and date, then half of my work's done. If the device that sent that holo out is online, I can find it to within a few meters, no sweat."

She pulled out her own datapad and bored it up. "Just give me access to the trace notes and I'll find it once we get in-system."

When Agent Domin spoke his mind about the upcoming mission, Kat pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and looked at the man, her left eyebrow arching high. "That's... one way to look at it." She desperately hoped that this mission would turn out a lot less bloody than she was beginning to suspect. Not that she was a coward, but she certainly didn't feel ready to die.

After a sleepless night Jayscreec outlined what they expect from the planet. He met his Admiral who - a bit hesitantly, but - approved funding. Anyway, three agents were nothing in the big picture. The Navy had a wide array of starships available. For the mission a Nerf-Class Freighter seemed perfect, and cheap enough to sign off. It's quite common, has enough slots and a couple turrets. The Admiral also allowed Dr. Kat Solari to access the trace notes.

The team gathered at the HQ's briefing room in the evening.
"I put my hand on a ship," Jayscreec said. "You might want to check it out, see what you want to bring. Hangar 49."

Jayscreec loaded some of his equipment already. Among food and his personal arsenal a surgical droid took place.

"Hey Kat, once you tracked the signals we will be ready to go. But look, this place is dangerous. I don't want to see your pretty face getting bruised."

Tomic grinned a little bit at the doctor. His replacement eye widened slightly as it automatically adjusted - he had been told it looked unsettling but he was of the opinion that it looked cool, actually. He checked his weapons were all in order, once again checking he had the extra ammo they were likely going to need.

"Don't worry Doc - I'll protect you." he assured her with a playful smirk, "And I promise I won't make things explode unless I really have to."

Or really wanted to.

He pointed to Jay.

"Like what he just offered but, you know, less sexist." he joked before handing her his quickdraw pistol, "Here. For the duration of the mission and then I'm taking it back."

Or picking it up off her corpse - Tomic wasn't fussy.

That evening, Kat arrived at Hangar 49 with a single duffel bag and her game-face. The men she'd been assigned to assist in this mission seemed competent, if a bit crass. Spacers; what are you gonna do?

Still, she was ready to do her duty and intended to prove her worth on her first real mission for her Empire, sexist tendencies notwithstanding. She rolled her eyes and said to Agent Alecwit, "Then I suggest you keep your eyes off my face and down your barrel, where they're most useful."

When Tomic handed her a pistol, she took it, inspected it, and tucked it into an inner pocket on her white waistcoat. "Doesn't hurt to have an extra... Thanks."

"Now, if you boys are finished showing off your feathers, why don't we go bring our man home? I hear there's a BOGO deal on hands this week at Gygax Station." She gave herself a smirk at her own joke and swaggered aboard the rotund starship. "I call first shower. Which cabin is mine?" The woman called from the top of the ramp.

Most of the preparations came together. The science team reported that the agents should count with extreme weather and spend the minimum time at their destination.

"Tomic, if I knew you were giving away your stuff I would come earlier." Jayscreec said, smiling. "Doc, please re-do the traces once, and give command fake coordinates in the operation plan." Rescue teams don't get rescued anyway. In Jayscreec's experience, it's better to keep information inside the team, on need to know basis.

"About ready to go, team?"

Didn't hurt to have an extra? Was she serious?

He supposed she must be more into tech than weaponry if she wasn't able to tell that the quickdraw he had handed her would do more damage and fire faster than the peashooter she had with her at the moment. The double-shot feature would help her as well since any hit would effectively be doubled.

Easy damage multipliers for the win.

Stepping onto the ship, Tomic settled himself down at the controls for the turrets.

"Blast off at the speed of light - let's get the hell out of here and get to where the fun is!"
