Duelling ring tournament round 1: Beric vs. Thaed

Lightbringer thrummed with energy, the orange blade ignited to full length, more like the ancient claymores of warring human tribes than the small, nimble weapons of the modern Jedi.

But no longer was he like modern Jedi. He had been removed from their order, from their rigid code. He had been set free.

He was clad in the force-forged plate of his progenitor. He snapped down the faceplate of an elegantly wrought helm. He would meet his foe clad fully.

This was destined to be a clash of titans. A Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, and a Sith Lord. It called for a special arena.

A whole village had been evacuated and partially destroyed, leaving a mass of twisted metal and husks of buildings for them to fight within. A tangled web of terrain. Perfect for adept users of the force. It would be remoulded by the end of the battle.

Beric positioned himself atop a spar of reinforced concrete, metal framing jutting like atrophied limbs.

Thaed was not covered head to toe in armor, but he wore cortosis weave bracers on his forearms. The rest of his body was covered in usual training clothing, a loose fitting vest and pants. At his hips were two lightsabers, though he summoned neither to his hands.

The Zabrak casually strode out into the arena, grinning at the sight of his opponent. His Force energy was lax, though he had already accumulated the dark side to his bidding. He was prepared for battle, though he showed no outward signs of it. Thaed was not tortured by atrocities committed against him, but he found his strength in clarity, being able to rise above the murky waters of doubt and loathing. He came to a stop before Beric, a chilled silence hanging in the air around them.

"If you'll do the honors, Grandmaster."

It was mockery, directly to his face. A grin played upon his lips as he awaited the first attack from his formerly Jedi adversary.
