On a sun-baked precipice, not far from Anchorhead, a humble moisture farmer and his two sons removed mushrooms growing on their moisture vaporators. Short, but sturdy, men, the two farmers collected their bounty for their nighttime meal. They were the Ewon family, hard-working and reclusive. For generations, they lived on the farm. Even as the sand blew away, and exposed a great cliff, the Ewon family remained. As passed down from Elder Ewon, the story goes as such...

No one could match the luck of Dellon Ewon. A rich socialite from the Galactic Core, Dellon spent his time in the most expensive clubs of Coruscant and the most exclusive beaches of Alderaan. Never without a woman in arm, Dellon spent his life on materialistic possessions a bodily desires. A spa treatment for the young Ewon could cost more than some make in a year. A new suit every day, a speeder for every occasion, and luck in the casino. Yes, Dellon Ewon never lost money; he may lose a game, but whatever lost was gained tenfold. At the height of his prime, the gambler extraordinaire drove home from a spectacular comeback. Despite losing a third of his wealth betting on a faulty swoop rider, Dellon went all in for one last push... low and behold, a stunning victory. On his way home, a cargo speeder burst through traffic and slammed into the back of his speeder, sending the man out of control.

Even death wouldn't risk taking him. His speeder crashed into an open street, where the cargo speeder was quick to come and nab the man. Bound, gagged, and on a makeshift gurney, Dellon Ewon was loaded into a ship and taken far from Coruscant. His captors, thugs paid by numerous casinos, spent days extracting bank information and credit stashes before putting the young man on ransom. Once his accounts were wiped, taken in unmarked credits and distributed amongst the unknown, Dellon's face was seen on major news programs. Without his wealth, however, the man was without hope. His friends abandoned him, his family moved on, and his remaining assets (houses, apartments, etcetera) were taken and sold. Now just a face, the thugs dropped him in the one place no one would look for him... Tattooine.

Anchorhead was not a pleasant place. It was a mining settlement, with its fair share of farmers. With little to no contact outside their planet, none knew of the kidnapping and none would care. Amid the sand and humidity, Dellon was tossed aside. His body broken, his pockets empty, and his luck all but spent, the man passed out beside a merchant's establishment. When he awoke, he lay in a farmer's house; the rags of his past life removed and replaced with the cloth of a farmer.

By the generosity of a farmer, Dellon was saved and nursed back to health. His savior, a farmer named Lio Dev, lived alone with his daughter, Haram. Over dinner, Dellon gave his story; his immaculate luck, his capture, his fall. Explaining that he had nothing left, Lio offered him a place to stay under a single condition; he was to learn the life of a moisture farmer and earn his keep. With nothing left to lose, Dellon Ewon accepted.

Out of several years worth of hard work, Dellon developed feelings for Haram. Their initial friendship blossomed and escalated into something Lio predicted. Claiming that he was the descendant of a powerful sage, Lio permitted their marriage under one last condition: they were never to move away from the farm, it would remain in the family for as long as it would stand. Agreeing to the demand, Lio married Dellon to Haram... the following morning, the old farmer lie still.

Vacant of the old farmer's care, the moisture farm was threatened. Dellon thought himself unprepared for the task that now sat before him, but found confidence in his wife. Together they worked to make the farm thrive, paving a secure future for their first son. Just as Lio passed the knowledge of a farmer unto him, Dellon would give his first son the knowledge to cultivate the moisture farm. Perhaps Dellon's luck had never faded.

Eventually, Dellon and Haram passed away. Only producing a single son, their child would follow the same process. Many generations later, Echigo Ewon was born to unpleasant circumstances. His mother, Masam, fell ill during childbirth and left Algo, Echigo's father, a widower. Unable to raise a child and take care of a farm, Algo remarried into another farmer's family. Echigo's new mother, Kei, took responsibility while Algo tended to the farm. However Kei became pregnant and birthed a son of her own, whom she named Lek. Algo was positive that this was a sign of good luck, that his family had overcame the single-child stigma. However, Kei neglected Echigo in favor for her son; the step-parent-child relationship fated to deteriorate. Things only worsened when Echigo began demonstrating eerie symptoms: he could shake his cup without touching it; when he was very angry, things around the house seemed to vibrate; he could predict small things before they happened. Kei was convinced her step-son was a monster, but Algo protected the boy.

After thirty-five years, Echigo had found himself a wife and Lek was successful at marketing their produce and water in Anchorhead. Despite their success, Algo and Lek were devastated with Kei's passing. Echigo, whom had grown very distant, was not entirely upset, something noticed by Lek. Because of Echigo's age and newfound wife, Lek came to see his half-brother as a threat -- growing so paranoid, that he believed Echigo murdered Lei. Believing that he deserved the farm, Lek set plans into motion... ensuring his half-brothers destruction.

Laboring over a new pair of robes, Echigo's wife Jien withheld joyous news: she was expecting. Although Lek was to sell their bounty in Anchorhead, the younger Ewon persuaded his elder brother to conduct the sale instead. Eager to get experience in the market, Echigo donned his new attire and unwittingly traveled to Anchorhead. While he conducted business, Lek brought thugs from rival farms back home. Armed to the teeth, they held the farm hostage and demanded that Lek be given the farm. Because neither Algo nor Jien would allow it, the thugs killed them both. Lek was sure that the thugs would then kill Echigo and depart... but was betrayed. Destroying the farm, and wounding Lek, the thugs departed. Lek, distraught at losing both his father and the farm, ran away; away from the farm and Anchorhead.

Leaving the market, later than he had hoped, Echigo traveled home. At first sign of smoke, Echigo hastened his return journey. The elder brother came upon the smoldering remains of the moisture farm, his father and wife dead. Sure that Lek, too, was somewhere buried in the ruin, Echigo lost his mind and collapsed. At sun's first rise, with nothing to his name and his legacy destroyed, Echigo strode off into the Dune Sea, content with death. After a few miles, Echigo fainted. Body limp, he closed his eyes and accepted his fate. But it was not to be, as approaching footsteps marked a new beginning.

---

Echigo is a short man, at 5'7 (170 cm), but his life as a farmer has given him a healthy and strong body. The sun has darkened his skin to match the clay-colored rocks of the cliffs. His hair, dark and flat, is closely cropped, a tradition used to keep hair away from the moisture vaporators. Although he hasn't reached middle-age, the lines around his face are thick and lightly freckled. His sunken cheeks, covered in a thick stubble, and eye sockets, burdened by thick eyebrows, create the shadow of a man who has lost much, only accentuated by his drooping gray eyes.

Rarely seen without his face covered, Echigo hides his past from others. Despite this fault, he incorporates his past as a farmer when offering advice or mentoring others. Using anecdotes to illustrate situations or hypothesize, Echigo can lose others in his babble... but those who stick around long enough might learn something. Recently Echigo has adopted a stylized walking stick, a krayt dragon carved at its top. There are few times he is ever seen without it.

Is it bad that the first thing that caught my attention was One Above All?

In other news, I guess this means you're coming out of retirement.

What species is Ichigo? I never spotted any mention of it anywhere.

And don't worry, Xeno. I noticed it too.

Ichigo is human -- and don't worry, it was intentional :p

As for coming out of retirement? Eh, maybe.

And ironic it was in the Valley of the Fallen Phoenix (or, at least, that's how it went down in the novel)
