DESCRIPTION
The EF77 Nebulon-D escort frigate represents Kuat Drive Yards building upon the wide success of its EF76 Nubulon-B frigates, as well as the New Republic's modernization efforts after it split from the Free Worlds Alliance. The Nebulon-D escort frigates pattern their layout after the previous model while making several upgrades to bring the design up to modern standards.Clocking in at 25 meters shorter than its predecessor, and featuring reduced space for cargo and supplies, Nebulon-D escort frigates represented the New Republic's new priority for projecting power through the use of its starfighters, connected to planetside bases rather than maintaining ships large enough to last on their own for years without resupply. Consequently, Nebulon-Ds maintained three squadrons of starfighters ready to launch at a moment's notice.
Ten turbolasers and light laser turrets allowed the model to defend against starfighters, alongside four ion cannons to disable enemy vessels. The shielding was similar to Nebulon-B frigates, but the hull of Nebulon-Ds were reinforced with stronger materials, allowing them to take more punishment in battle.
Although material shortages due to the New Republic's political separation from the resource-rich Outer Rim have slowed production somewhat, a steady supply of materials from the New Republic's allies in the Galactic Senate ensure EF77 Nebulon-D escort frigates are still being built and commissioned at a relatively steady pace.
LEGALITY
Restricted. EF77 Nebulon-D escort frigates are classified as capital ships under Galactic law, and possess heavy weapons, making them difficult or impossible for civilians and even small factions to own. To date, however, this has been a non-issue, as they are exclusively sold to the New Republic Navy by their manufacturer.INTENT

EF77 Nebulon-D escort frigates are large capital ships with heavy weapons, and capital ships cannot be owned or operated by individual characters. They are currently exclusive to the New Republic faction.
