A mistake. A change. A revelation.

I was a simple minded fool. The Jedi fed me nonsense and I ate it like it was my last meal. The Code, the pathetic brainwashing. That was what failed me. I had spent too many years with the fools, being poisoned by their holding back. Defend the weak, stay neutral. Society would not advance if the weak were not weeded out. It took me a long time to learn this pure ideal, but in one decision, I awoke. On a mission, ironically, doing the galaxy ‘good’ and upholding my Jedi Code.

I was tasked to solve a new wave of seemingly unmotivated kidnappings. The kidnappings were not in any way discriminating, poor and the rich, human or otherwise. It almost seemed like the kidnappers were trying to capture as broad of a spectrum as they could. I worked hellishly, pushing my capacity forward, eager to end what I thought was monstrous. In plunging myself deeper into the case, I became increasingly narrow-viewed, not being able to see the wide margin of the various involvements and motivations. Eventually, I was blind, my eyes only being able to see the faces of the victims. It was inevitable that I would fall into their trap.

In what had appeared to be a breakthrough, I leapt into action right away, not bothering to inform the local republic presence given my suspicion that anyone other than me could be involved. I struck at their lair, and found what I was looking for. By then, if I had not been as foolishly educated by the Jedi and had trusted my instincts, I would have known that something was amiss. But no, I immediately started to release the prisoners in a fit of stupidity, too concerned for their safety and well-being to make a sensible sweep of the premises. I had only one person from their cells when I finally knew I had fallen into a trap. I was surrounded. They held the upper-ground, but I knew that I could still beat them if I worked flawlessly. Lightsabers activated, I stared at the ambushers, challenging them to make a move.

I was then promptly reminded by their leader that all around me were weak and suffering people. Surely in a firefight confined to the indoors, if I attempted to assault them, every single one of the still-bound and twisting prisoners would die. My second mistake, and also my greatest gift. I deactivated my lightsaber and dropped them to the floor. The men with their guns still pointed at me laughed, then a searing beam of pain burst through my back. I turned around, my vision quickly fading. My assailant was the girl I had released from the cell, the closest one to me at the time. What was her name? Ah yes, Ciel, the pretty girl I had burned an image of inside my mind. I had engraved the faces and names of every single ‘prisoner’ into my mind, and now I could see them all, stepping from their shackles and restraints casually.

For the next 5 months, there was not a single day when I had full control of my body or had full conscience for more than 3 hours. It was pain, then nothing. Pain, then nothing. Every moment that I was awake, anger and bitterness filled everything. The Jedi sent me on a dud of a mission. Their training meant that I took into the account of the well-fare of the ‘suffering’ beings around me. Their code had betrayed me. Eventually, there was a break from the common patterns. There was no more pain, only numbness and an empty and tired mind. It took another month for recovery, but slowly, I re-emerged.

I was no longer who I used to be, that much was clear. In shackles and restraints and under the careful watch of a Ysalamir, I finally saw what I had become. My face had changed no doubt, my skin tone and my hair colour. Most interesting though, was that my eyes had become a fluorescent cyan, evidently glowing. I did not know what had happened, but I could feel my entire body had changed. My vision was clearer than ever, my hearing, my strength, my senses. Through a series of injections and treatments, my mind was slowly healed from the trauma it’s host had faced.
Finally, they had made a mistake. How foolish of them, repairing my mind.

From that moment onwards, I behaved like a docile pet, complying with every wish and instruction. I watched for a moments break, knowing that I would only require half a mistake to dish out my vengeance. They thought that the Ysalamir was a fail-safe, but with my new gifts, I hardly required the force to butcher some soldiers and scientists. Finally, by feinting a sudden heart attack when I was out of body-monitoring equipment, they had rushed me to the infirmary, which I knew had no extensive security measures like my holding cell. I was taken in, the scientists and doctors crowded around me, the soldiers waiting patiently outside.

Oh, what a beautiful scene. The guards must have had a wonderful surprise when they rushed inside, having heard the screams. That was, a second before their screeches too joined the orchestra that I was conducting. Before leaving, I discovered in delight that they had the decency to keep my equipment and gear in perfect-shape. Muttering a few words of thanks to the empty eyes of the fallen, I cut out a new path for me. A mistake, a gift. I will make sure that there are no more mistakes from me.
