Hello one and all,

I am going to try something a bit different from our usual theory threads here.

Instead of debating and exploring what everyone things, I would like to encourage people just to make one post in this thread, listing what they think will happen in the new film. Then, once you have seen the film, come back and edit your post with 'Seen the film on [DATE]'. Once everyone who has posted in the thread has seen the film, I'll look through everything, and we shall see who was closest with their guesses!

So, feel free to post, and remember, save the debates and discussion on everyone's ideas for another thread, leaving this one just as a list of what everyone thinks will happen!

Hmmm I like this so I'll throw my 2 cents in.

I believe that 1st order will actually end up being the good guys somehow, or that at least Kylo Ren will be a good guy in the end.

I am thinking Rey is somehow a Skywalker, the whole saga has been about the family and even though we have old leia and luke. They need a new skywalker for the new age of fans.

That's my thoughts.

Seeing it a midnight GMT so will post as soon as I get in :)

In a spoiler in case it bothers anyone. I've been paying way too much attention to the rumors and news sites...

Seeing it the evening of the 18th.

Luke started the Knights of Ren to honor his father, but they eventually turned dark by gradually worshipping Vader instead. Luke flees in shame and to protect himself (a la Yoda), only to have to help his own family (niece Rey) in order that the Resistance can one day face whatever Snoke is...

My theory:

Kylo Ren is actually Ezra Bridger after Kanan is killed by Vader. He snaps and falls to the Darkside, joining a cult of Vader worshippers. Luke is battling the Darkside inside himself in exile on Tatooine. Han and Leia broke up, smuggler and princess don't mix. The First Order is the fanatical remnants of the old empire. Leia now runs a republic formed from the rebels.

Kylo Ren is actually the ghost of Billys Mays, back to finish what he started.

Does anyone know why there is no Republic and why the good guys are "the resistance"? I am thinking it's a proxy war or the republic has a severely reduced military and can't counter the first order directly. Idk.. I am interested to hear what you all say though :)

Maybe just killing the emporer and destroying the Deatj Star didn't equal victory. The empire must have had contingencies for this.

Don't get hyped up for this movie. Remember the hype for the prequels? Look what happened when you saw it for the first time.

I think they will be still the rebellion, as a minor government in a galaxy controlled by imperial warlords.

Abrams will hopefully play off the "Just because the Emperor is dead doesn't mean his Empire is" concept.

It is the greatest troll marketing campaign of all time, its a musical!

Given that the whole galaxy is involved and we have a host of fall of the Empire to deal with I would hope it would deals with that, even in the EU it seemed to be a pretty quick turn around from galaxy spanning empire to the New Republic. They might even go for a, Emperor Planned for this all along route if I put too much faith in it.

I will see the film, blind, without reviews or spoilers just not when its totally packed with people at launch.

I recall reading some explanation thingy in a magazine with Kylo Ren on the front at some office building I was in a month or two ago that covered that question.
So the Rebel Alliance overwhelmed the Empire after the death of Palpatine and Vader, which ultimately scattered the Imps into the far outer rim. Eventually, the Rebel Alliance reformed into a second Republic, and the Empire's remnant reformed into the First Order (they did not mention how the Knights of Ren factored into this, but they are indeed separate), which was likened by JJ Abrams as being 'what if the all Nazis in Argentina started working together again?'. Since the new Republic was fledgling when they discovered the Empire survived / was reborn and the First Order was actually keeping to themselves, the new Republic basically allowed their existence so long as the First Order kept to the Outer Rim and didn't attempt to expand toward the Core. The Resistance is the militarized pockets of armed revolts against the First Order from within their sovereign space, not the new Republic vs First Order (although it was very much implied that it would cascade into that).

I can't really remember much beyond that, though. I have friends at the office and the guys are total Star Wars geeks and wouldn't have thrown it away. I can probably check it out as a reference tomorrow.

I imagine you have all probably seen this theory, but:

That was a thoroughly enjoyable read!

There is a book that supposedly details the rise and fall of the New Republic because of the First Order. Not sure if it's out yet, but it's canon.
