You will serve.

Essien Inemesit was born on Arda, within the cluster of what was the old empire. He was identified early on, relinquished into Sith wardship and pushed to the brink. He was trained and tested night and day in a dark, distant place with a group of similar age. He grew with them, beating each other into the dirt with fist and staff. Some were liked whilst others were despised, few naturally protective of others whilst many embraced the brutality of this place. They were armed with skill and knowledge at the expense of comfort and privilege, though Essien never believed his masters meant to break them.

Their numbers eventually began to dwindle, some disappearing without any explanation or rumor. Their challenges grew to new heights, sometimes requiring them to work together, until they fought the very guards and masters themselves. Until death surrounded the survivors. The illusion of captivity was pulled from over their eyes. The guards could not use the mystical powers they could, the cur. And the masters were merely older youth, unfit for greater responsibility. The survivors were rewarded with a deeper understanding of pain and sacrifice, aging into new experiences alongside one another. And from there, they were taken to a more secure sanctum.

You will fail.

One of the new masters began returning to Essien daily, powerful and wise. Essien looked up to him. He relished in regaling his accomplishments to his new mentor, whom always listened in silence. Once Essien finished, the master would begin. He would overpower Essienc's efforts to demonstrate his growth. It would always end the same, Essien on his back and the master standing over him. Then he would turn his back, hesitate, and finally leave.

There were newer additions to the sanctum with differing reservations and varying temperaments, but their numbers dwindled all the same as it always had. Disagreements were had. Grudges grew in place of friendships. But Essien could still see some semblance of hope and buoyancy in those around him. And they weren't always confined to the sanctum, occasionally accompanying a master on business off-world. And what's more, their successes reliably merited at least a moniker of respect from the masters. It was as though, to Essien at least, they were proud.

Essien trusted in the pain. In the sanctum. In the masters. With few of them left, Essien stood before the masters in confidence. He wore his victory over his peers with pride. But when he expected accolades and ascension, he was instead inflicted with heartbreak. His mentor's final lesson was, in the end, the same as it had always been.

He had listened to another of Essien's triumphs in silence, even over another master's betrayal based upon petty bias in disfavor, beaten Essien to the ground, and turned his back on him. When all Essien could do was stare at the back of his idol's broad shoulders, his mentor walked away.

You will rise.

Essien Inemesit is often times sanguine, practical, and amicable despite his barbaric upbringing. Wonder sparkles in his eyes as often and intensely as envy, doubt and rage. Bullheaded when faced with an obstacle, he doggedly bruises body or ego before learning to see outside the box of repetition. But his stubbornness serves him when others give in. It is his heart that can be his greatest weakness. His heartbreak due to his mentor's abandonment has become the scapegoat for all his life's letdowns, embodying the confusion of his shortcomings as he fails to understand why he failed. The corruption of his heart spreads still.

Few are drawn to Essien and even fewer know his heart. He is no great leader, no bloodthirsty mongrel, and no sinister mind. Yet he persists. His relentless hunger for acknowledgement unwittingly drives him toward maturity as he comes to know himself and the galaxy around him for what they truly are.
