DESCRIPTION
The Eta-class shuttle is a VIP-turned troop transport manufactured by Cygnus Spaceworks for the Galactic Republic prior to and during the Clone Wars. Originally developed for the Republic Ambassadorial Corps and also used by the original Jedi Order, the Eta was pressed into service as a light military vessel at the outbreak of the Clone Wars, a capacity in which it served throughout the conflict before being largely retired by the Galactic Empire in favor of newer designs.

The Eta is a small craft, 14.2 meters in length with a crew of 2, plus up to 10 passengers, 40 tons of cargo and consumables sufficient for 2 months in space. Designed initially as a high-end craft which might be called upon to transport high-ranking diplomats and other VIPs, it incorporates a great deal of - for the time - highly advanced technology, including miniaturized and redundant hyperdrives (a class 2 main drive and a class 10 backup), multiple escape pods (including a 4-passenger detachable cockpit pod and 2 3-passenger pods), a long-range communication suite, folding wings to reduce landing footprint (a Cygnus staple) and various onboard amenities, including comfortable seating, crew and passenger sleeping berths, a small galley and a full entertainment suite for long-duration voyages. The type also came from the factory with a pair of fold-up Undicur-class jumpspeeders for surface excursions.

After the Clone Wars, the Eta was largely taken out of Imperial service, sold off on the civilian market to various planetary governments, corporate operators and private owners. Though old, the type was considered quite luxurious and well made, and persisted in service for some time in many places. The type can still be found here and there.

LEGALITY
Legal. Shuttles such as the Eta are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.
