I read the Jedi roster and noticed that there were more padawans than the Knights and Masters put together. Perhaps we should make some of the other Jedi have more than one apprentice to help thin that list.

There's nothing stopping a Jedi from having more than one padawans. Many actually do have multiple padawans.

*looks at the other students in his class*

*looks at Kai's and Taruna's classes*

Yea, working on it, but we can't tell when/ force people to apply for Knighthood, same for Master rank lol

Lol at any given time Kai has between 2 and 5 Padawans he's personally teaching. The problem is that there will always be more Padawans than Knights and Masters since, with few exceptions, everyone has to start out as a Padawan. And teaching is strictly voluntary, we can't force knights and masters to teach (frankly this is a good thing as there are some truly awful teachers out there). And we're not going to drop the requirement for knighthood just to get more teachers in. But there's nothing stopping Padawans for going out on missions with each other, or teaching each other basic abilities they are well trained in. Also, feel free to ask knights and masters for personal training. The worst that'll happen is they'll say "sorry too busy" or "I can't teach that/right now, sorry"

Hey there fellow Jedi,

So things like this seem to get brought up from time to time. I know it can be be really difficult when you're first starting out and deciding what you need to do and what direction your character should head. This is something that almost everyone (I am sure there our some freaks out there who didn't struggle with it, but I was not one one of them) goes through this when they are starting out.

First off, it makes perfect sense that Padawans would make up the largest part of the Order. The Jedi have been relentlessly hunted for sometime now, and Masters and Knights would be out in situations that were most dangerous (and killed more often), while Padawans often are assigned somewhat less dangerous task and spend much of their time training. So it makes sense that there would be very few Jedi Masters (As the overall life expectancy is lower than it would have normally have been.), a good amount of Knights (Those who have proven themselves and have learned the basics), and an influx of Padawans (As the Order seeks to grow itself again after being in exile for around a decade)

Your "rank" within the Order does not really change your overall experience on this site. What you are doing as a Padawan is mostly the exact same thing that myself and other Jedi are doing, we are making stories. Now, I may write them from a different prospective as my character has grown and changed over the last two years, but essentially I am doing the same thing as you are. So don't rush to get promoted just because you feel it is needed. Enjoy writing as Padawan, and that will show later down the line when you have a more detailed and fleshed out character.

Roleplaying the "Master and Apprentice" stuff has always been a bit of an issue. As someone who has been on both sides of that coin, I will admit it can be a fun thing to write out, but that does not mean a character who does not go through that has to be any less developed or less enjoyable to play. My experience as a Padawan was a mixture of both writing with a "Master" and threads with peers. When I first made my Jedi, I reached out to several people and asked them if they had time to write with me. Some did, others didn't or didn't want to (And that is okay. I would rather RP with someone who actually wants to write with me as opposed to not). I do remember asking a couple people if they were interested in taking my Padawan on as an apprentice, but was asked to do a thread with them before they agreed to go further. This did a couple things. It showed people I was dedicated to writing actively, and it showed I was willing to put some time in to develop my character instead of just racing towards a promotion. After completing a couple of threads I found someone who thought their Jed Master would be a good fit for my Padawan. If I remember we did three or four threads, and none of those were straight training threads. They were fun, and helped me define my character, but did not speed up the promotion process.

So to address what everyone's question is when they start writing: "what do I do now?". The simple answer is to simply write (What we are all here for). Find people that you enjoy writing with and make awesome stories. Don't do a thread just so you can justify raising that "Force Push" tick a little bit higher. Make stories that you enjoy coming to and contributing to. I think you will find that you will complete more threads, and not get so worn down with the site. I guarantee if you have a handful of threads that show credible and realistic character development you will promote faster than those who are just trying to rush towards that next rank.

If anyone ever needs help coming up with stories or missions, feel free to hit me up on skype or PM me. I may not be able to fit a thread in, but I promise to atleast try and help you going in the right direction. I'll get off my rant box now!

Your Friendly Jedi AFL,
Raydo

Ugh thank gawd I thought he'd never end... :P

I feel like that reply should get stickied somewhere, tbh. But yeah, what Raydo said is absolutely spot on. And while I don't want to steal Raydo's thunder, all your Jedi leadership is here if you have questions or need help or ideas. For those of you who are new this would by Raydo, Ben (our GM/FL), and myself.

If evey class II joined didn't die I'd be more than happy to have zian take someone, however she is not as far as I'd like I am going to try to push her more even if it means solo rps and update her stuff. Been really busy just in general.

If it comes to it the padawans
could pool together and start a formal training program, helping each other and with training and study

And correct me if I'm wrong but isnt it possible for padawans to advance without a master?

If your a Padawan and aren't full up on threads, you have no excuse to not head over to the class being run by @Lutomi here. Go post now!

While this is a possibility, I would like to reiterate that Padawans should really only be able to teach skills they themselves are relatively advanced in. Just because you learned the basics of heal yesterday doesn't mean you have what it takes to show other people. In reality you're more than likely to teach it wrong, and a group has the same chance of everyone being wrong at that level as they do at being right. So please don't learn the basics of a Force Power and then think your character will be the best teacher at it, even if you're part of a cabal.

And it is totally possible to advance without a Master, I just find it to be somewhat easier as they are someone who knows what your character needs to learn and do that will get them promoted and are typically willing to do the threads with you, unless they themselves are incredibly busy at the moment, which is why it is encouraged that if Padawans have extra time to take classes and training and missions offered by others.

I was actually thinking more on the lines or sparring to improve lightsaber combat and possibly an alcoholics anonymous

Sparring and discussions are totally fine, just remember what I said earlier as it applies to learning/teaching lightsaber forms as well as Force Powers. But it's totally acceptable to do some sparring to get better at combat.
