The Zabrak padawan had recently come to Lamaredd joining his fellow jedi at the outpost there. It was a vast difference from his old home on Ryloth. The tropical forests and clear blue water were refreshing to Denal.

On Lamaredd was where he had met his new master, Reland Gil. The Jedi Master had been in the process of creating a jedi starfighter squadron. Upon hearing this, Denal offered his services to "Exile Squadron."

Eager to become a proficient fighter pilot, the padawan had began testing with the simulators within the caves of the Lamaredd outpost. He found the simulator an enjoyable challenge at first. It was much harder to control than the light freighter that Denal had grown accustomed to over the years.

....Today was to be the Zabrak's first simulation flight with another jedi, let alone three. They were supposed to fly together as a true squadron would in real time combat. Denal did not know any of the padawans who were to attend, but he was instructed to wait for them at the entrance of the cave outpost's mouth.

There Denal stood, arms crossed over one another in a tight comfortable position. He was ready to meet the other test pilots and to get started. This would be a good chance for all of them to show their skills to the other members of Exile Squadron.

While none of the others had arrived yet, this was to be expected. The padawan arrived at the meeting point early so that he could be there to introduce himself as the others arrived.

He looked out of the cave to the beach front ahead. The water was a bit choppy from the looks of it. Lamaredd's sky was cloudy at the moment. Earlier there was a hard downpour. Water still dropped from the wet trees above which was why Denal remained inside of the cave to avoid getting wet.

Matt hasn't done any missions before, although he'd done jobs for companies before, for transportation from one place to the other, until he got a ship, that is. He had tons of flying experience but was still nervous about collaborating with others. Hoping for the best, he headed to the outpost.

It rained heavily, but he braved it, walking with his hood up. At last, he reached the outpost and looked around.

The Padawan looked around the vehicle. No one else was there except for a strange being, whom he could not identify, due to the fact that its hood was up. Abandoning the chances of conversation, he kept to himself. You'll get to talk enough when you get to the outpost, he thought sighing. The vehicle lurched forward and stopped, and the driver motioned that this was his stop. The Padawan stepped out and began walking to the outpost, hoping he won't be late.

Reland stood in the simulator room on Lamaredd. His Padawan had shown up on tjme , but the other Jedi had yet arrive. He failed to hide his annoyance of the Jedi who went present yet.

He checked the time and once again looked down the corridor leading out of the room they had set the four simulators in.

This wouldn't stand for his fighter squadron. They were Jedi which made their tardiness bad enough, but he held his pilots to a higher standard.

"I am going to be waiting in the control room." He pointed to the small booth with various displays. The small room was able to see whatever was being seen each of the simulator and communicate with each on individually and as a group."

As he stood, peering out of the cave mouth, Denal spotted several figures in the distance begin to approach. He was eager to get started. The simulator was a great way for him to pass time in the outpost when things were slow, and they often were slow.

Now, he leaned slightly against the wall of the cave. He did not feel the need to stand straight up like a soldier on guard would. Denal was no mindless drone. Squinting slightly, the shapes came into better focus.

His master, standing behind him announced that he would descend into the simulator room for preparation. Looking ahead still the Zabrak replied "Of course master. I shall wait here for the arrivals."

The first, looked like a small little human. The Zabrak was astounded that a boy so young was allowed entry into the testing phase of Exile squadron. Padawan Vering was not one to judge however. He would let the boy prove what he had before making his opinions.

Regardless, the small boy was first to reach him. Pushing himself slightly away from the cave wall, Denal stood himself up straight. Giving a respectful bow, the Zabrak removed his hood. "Greetings padawan. I am Denal Vering. It's a pleasure to meet you. If you will be kind enough to wait with me for a moment, I will take you and the others down to the simulators. Do you feel ready to fly?"" His whole introduction was spent looking down. The Zabrak was full grown, and it was too be expected. While Denal's face rarely broke a straight face, he was polite to the padawan regardless. It was just Denal's personality. He was a serious one.

After his introduction to the young blond padawan, his head quickly snapped up to see the second padawan approaching; a female Cerean by the looks of her. Denal checked for the fourth padawan, but the fourth was still too far away to put a face to them.

Kiva Teplu had been recruited from the outpost on Naboo. Since recently arriving, the padawan decided she already hates Lamaredd. With today's weather being her only experience with the planet, she assumed it was always this dismal.

She trudged from a discrete hangar in a nearby village through the wet sand and up to the outpost entrance. Kiva did not enjoy the walk and it showed on her face. "Hello. I'm Kiva Teplu here for the Exile Squadron test flight."

The Cerean was in her upper teens and had previous flying experience. There were no doubts or worries that she had about how she would perform today and it was evident in her confident upright walk.

Matt stepped into the outpost territory and was welcomed by another Padawan, whom seemed rather tall, and could feel him judging him, something he'd grown used to when piloting ships and delivering orders for companies. You always get looks when you're 13 standard years old and you sign a clipboard with a average-sized delivery ship behind you. As the other Padawan bowed, so did he, and took off his hood, revealing the whiskers. "Sorry I'm late! Matt Astroseph. I feel more than ready," he said, panting. Matt held in a giggle, thinking of everyone else's future reactions.

When the other Padawan arrived, he bowed and introduced himself as well. "Matt Astroseph," he murmured again, and sat down, waiting to be directed somewhere else. While doing so, he looked at the outpost, taking note of its activity and defenses, lest they run into a problem and are tailed to the base. Matt stayed silent until Denal approached him.

Roxxar pulled up his hood and began walking to the outpost, trying to stay dry, which was impossible. Once he reached it, he pulled down his hood and bowed. "I am Roxxar, Jedi Padawan. Nice to meet you."

He takes a quick look around and notices a boy with whiskers painted on his cheeks. He frowns slightly. After looking at the young boy quizzically, Roxxar surveys the rest of the company: two other Padawans, one who also seemed to have just arrived.

Denal nodded to the other two arrivals. The Cerean seemed in a rather bad mood so Padawan Vering thought not to push his introduction to her. Instead, he looked to the other human who had arrived with his greetings. He bowed respectfully "Denal. Nice to meet you Roxxar. If you both would follow me, Master Gil is expecting us in the simulator room."

Turning away from the gloomy sky outside, the Zabrak descended gradually down into the cave mouth. The cave walls were strung up with lights every few steps or so. It made Denal feel like he was in a mine, but he was more focused on the task at hand.

Reaching the entrance to the simulator room, Debal acknowledged his master. "Here are the other pilots master." he said stepping into the room so that Reland could see Raxxar, Matt, and Kiva who were still standing behind him.

Walking to the center of the room, the Zabrak sat down in one of the simulator seats in the center of the room. Some machines outlined the wall while there were several more that faced each other in the middle if the cave room.

"I'm going to get set up if that is alright." padawan Vering stated as he turned the machine on. Flipping several switches, he then moved to edit his settings. When it came to the ship selection aspect of the setup, Denal chose the T-97 X-Wing starfighter. It was his personal favorite even though there were several other ships to choose from.

Turning to the youngest of the jedi in the room, "Matt do you need any assistance in setting up?" the Zabrak asked.

Kiva followed the Zabrak down into the cave wondering how anyone would want to live underground in an outpost such as this.

Upon entering the simulator room, Kiva decided to suck up to Master Gil seeing as he was in charge. "Oh master. It is just such an honor to meet you. I'm sure you won't be disappointed in my flying."

It was amazing how quick her mood had changed since arriving. In fact, to the padawans who had just met her, it was obvious what she was trying to do.

After her greeting, she sat to the right of Denal's simulator which made up one of the four in the center. Choosing her ship, the Cerean went with the Starhawk-class Assault Bomber.

Matt went down the path, somehow knowing the way. When instructed to, he went the way he was told, but didn't need any other help, and soon enough, he was in the simulator room.

Matt sat down and scrolled down the list of ships for a long time. He didn't know what to choose, but eventually settled on a T-97 X-wing Starfighter, and put on his helmet.

"I'm all set."

Roxxas followed everyone, slightly behind, taking in the sights. When they entered the cave, he looked around, touching rocks and acting as though he'd never been in a cave in all his 18 years. And he hadn't.

He looked around and saw everyone sitting down in the cockpits and followed, looking at all the ships. He didn't know what to choose, so he picked a Rogue-class Starfighter just as he heard the boy say he's ready.

"Me too."

"Good." Padawan Vering announced after hearing the pilots' readiness. As Denal delved further into the simulator's setup, spoke spoke again. "Alright, you should all see a notification to synchronize with my simulator. It is the simulation listed as Canyon Chase." The mission is for our squadron to enter the canyon. We fly down low and evade enemy fighters until we reach the end of the canyon. Any questions?" The title seemed rather self-explanatory.

So the padawan did not feel the need to talk more before starting. The description on the screen in front of all of them should do the job just fine if his own was not sufficient.

Once everyone was linked up in the same simulation, the Zabrak pressed to begin the mission. Screens in the room flashed to a bright, desert location. The four of them began in a diamond formation.

Denal was in the right wingman position. Looking about the simulation, padawan Vering saw the ship to his left, diagonal front, and back. "Exile 2 standing by." the Zabrak announced in a determined voice. He had never done this simulation and was anxious. Right now all they had to do was enter the canyon up ahead.

Kiva remained silent during the setup process. She cared little to interact with the three padawans whom she felt she was better than. Although she would keep looking to Master Gil and smiling as to not reflect her distaste for the other squadron members.

Quietly, she synchronized with the mission simulation. As the simulation began, the Cerean girl took a look at the scenery around her. She could not tell which planet the simulation took place on, but she assumed it was Tatooine.

Paying attention now to the squadron, she realized she was in the rear within the diamond formation. Kiva mumbled to herself "I should be leading this stupid excercise."

The girl was going to go back to her silence until she noticed the Rogue-class fighter in the formation. "Urgh...good luck to the idiot that chose the Rogue-class..that ship is a two-pilot ship. The computer co-pilot on these stupid machines is horrible."

As if to make Raxxar feel stupid if she hadn't already, she snootily announced "Exile 4 standing byyy..."

If she kept up this attitude, one of her own squad mates would shoot her down before the enemy.

Matt followed the directions and launched the simulation, amazed by how realistic it is. He looked around, feeling the wind in his face, and the atmospheric pressure. Matt decided to get back on track.

"Exile 3 standing by."

He looked at the desert and noticed what looked like a small animal. These simulations were state-of-the-art. After flying by a tree, he got into the diamond position. Matt glanced at the guy with a Rogue-class fighter and frowned. Someone was gonna have a hard time.

Roxxar realized his ship was supposed to be driven by two pilots only after he chose it, and realized the computer co-pilot was horrible only when the Cerean girl declared it snottily. He tried not to veer off track, but still had a bit of a problem, since the ship was unresponsive on his co-pilot's part. The computer wasn't really asking which way to go, and it was just doing its own thing.

"Exile 1 standing byyyyyyyyy!" He prolonged the last part due to a slight problem. The ship was just slowly descending and his steering wasn't working.

By the time he balanced it, everyone had gone ahead, so he had to catch up, but decided not to risk going faster. Roxxard was hating this.

Without their lead starfighter out front, the rest of the squadron was forced to slow themselves down until Raxxar could regain himself. Denal thought it smart to address the problem sooner rather than later. "Raxxar what's the problem? You've slipped out of formation. The enemy fighters will be on us any second and we are gonna need to be ready."

The Zabrak checked to the left and right behind him. He figured once they entered the canyon, the fighters would be all over them. "Everyone else keep formation. This is going to get messy." the padawan warned.

Immediately Kiva added to the chatter. "Come on!" the padawan complained. "Who the hell thought you were ready to fly with us. Adjust the co-pilot settings to active! It's not that hard!" All the while she was thinking how much better she would be suited to lead them.

They began to enter the canyon run. She knew all too well that the enemy fighters were on their way. "Horn head, we don't need constant updates from you got it?"

Just as she said this the enemy fighters popped up on her radar. Since she just harassed Denal for giving updates, she decided she wouldn't alert the others. She was out to help herself and no one else.

Matt held in a small laugh. They were such a ragtag bunch, from different cultures, different races, different planets, and yet... they could cooperate. Even the Padawan who was having... ship problems was doing his best. He was the reason for the laugh, of course.

"Is that an enemy ship I see?" he asked, then remembered they couldn't see which way he was looking. "North east."

He gripped the steering and prepared to speed.

Roxxar was already beginning to feel sick. The ship lurched to the right, then up, and he decided that this was ridiculous. He flipped a switch that powered off the autopilot, and amazingly, everything was suddenly better.

When he heard the boy speak, he looked toward the direction he mentioned and saw a small dot slowly getting bigger, as it neared them.

He sighed. "I believe so."

Kiva was already getting to Denal. What was her deal? The answer was beyond him and he thought it better not to respond to her rather offensive comment she had made. Horn head? the Zabrak thought to himself angrily. That comment was harder to shake than he thought, but Matt made it easy for him when he announced the first enemy fighter.

"Alright. Here it comes!" Denal warned. Now the ship came on his own radar. Then several others came on also. This was going to be difficult.

Now they had reached the canyon. The squadron would have to navigate well if they didn't want their simulated fighters to explode in a ball of fire on one of the rock walls. Denal moved into a looser formation so that he could begin his evasive maneuvers.

Sure enough, the enemy fighters began to shoot their blasters. A red flurry came at the four pilots. Padawan Vering wasted no time in swaying to the right and then left to dodge the initial shots directed at his X-Wing. "Remember not to go above the cannons or the auto turrets will blast you to pieces!" the padawan warned as he looked up to see the turrets lining the canyon.

Already aware of the fighter that she decided not to mention, Matt's warning benefitted her little. She sped up to enter the canyon and get out of the open.

Her bomber was the least equipped to deal with the enemy fighters. Naturally it was slower and less evasive, but she would need to learn with it if she were going to use it in actual combat. If she was going to make it, she knew she would need help.

Snapping at the other pilots, the Cerean yelled "Is someone going to cover me or should I just crash now and save time?!" It was a mystery how she was even invited to this training session.

It wouldn't be a shock if the pilots weren't going to hurry to her aid, but if they put the mission before feelings she might be in luck.

Matt was starting to get annoyed by the Cerean girl, whom had not only insulted two of the other Exiles, but had also requested backup rudely. If she expected to survive in a real situation, she'd have to change her attitude. Alas, he was a Jedi, and Jedi protect those who can't protect themselves. Although she could.

Matt slowed down and flew parallel to her. "Don't you have any armaments on that?" He began shooting toward the enemy ships.

Matt glanced around and saw that the other Exiles were doing fine. That's when he noticed another ship, coming from his side, barreling straight toward him. Matt flew forward, hoping the Cerean girl could deal with that, since he wouldn't really like to explode yet.

Roxxar flew low, trying to stay out of sight of any enemy, and also trying not to get in the way of the other Exiles. He nearly hit a plant twice and was almost hit by a ship once. Muttering about bad choices, he flew up, to the level of everyone else and sped up, cringing at the lack of control he had, and praying that no one will come in front of him.

"Just a headsup, you guys might wanna stay next to or behind me, unless you'd like to crash with me." He didn't mean this rudely of course, it was just a simple warning.

Evading blaster fire, Denal was not surprised that the bomber needed support. He heard Matt over the simulated comms ask her if she had any weapons. Knowing that Kiva would give a rude response before anything else, the Zabrak thought he should respond for her first. "She does, but none that can fire backwards."

Most if not all of the ships did not have reverse facing guns. "She won't be able to evade as easily. You got her covered Matt?" he asked hopefully. Padawan Vering was dealing with two QIE fighters on his tail.

Doing a left barrel Denal stayed safe for another few moments. Then Raxxar told the crew they had to get behind him. "Raxxar we can't just sit..." one of the fighters hit his lower left wings. Sparks and smoke flew from the point of contact. The fighter began to shake, but the padawan regained control.

Once he regained his craft, the Zabrak continued "We can't line up behind you or else we will all get picked off in a row! Just don't hit us!" While he was yelling, it was not in an angry way, but rather just exclamatory.

Now the squadron had to make sure one if their own wouldn't take them out.

The pilot didn't have time for this. Kiva dove down towards the bottom of the canyon to evade fire. At the last possible moment she pulled up.

Seconds after explosions ensued on the canyons floor. At first instant, any of the pilots could've assumed Kiva crashed, but in fact they were bombs from her payload. She was using the explosions to stay hidden from the QIE fighters.

This seemingly ingenious tactic would only prove useful for so long. There were only a finite amount of bombs in each bomber. The Cerean knew this and she was already thinking of her next plan.

I'm not misspelling TIE fighter, I swear! If you look at the Imperium fighters, the basic fighter is QIE :p

Matt tried to keep up with the fast pace, in an attempt to protect himself and help the others. When Denal asked him if he got her covered, he began answering. "Ye-" Then she dove and it seemed as though she'd blown up.

He knew she wouldn't be that stupid. The Cerean may be rude, but she's not dumb. She was definitely up to something, and he decided not to get in her way, so that she won't yell at him. That would lower morale and distract them from the task at hand.

Matt decided to leave her alone and sped as fast as he could, passing by Denal who'd gained control of his ship.

The ship went faster and faster until it reached top speed. Matt gritted his teeth and flew a bit lower, kicking up dust with his engines.

"How much farther till the end of the canyon?" he yelled over the engine's roar.

Roxxar was going slow and steady, making sure not to wreck his ship, or make it overheat or something. He didn't know much about ships, which is how he'd come to choose one that is so bad, but the one thing he knew was not to let it get too hot, which is why he was last.

Thus came his idea. Roxxar slowed down completely and dove low. The enemy ships zoomed over him, and he resumed normal speed behind them, knowing that the canyon was too narrow for turns, and they didn't have reverse facing weapons. He laughed.

His ship began to gain speed once again. The padawan was happy to have survived a direct hit. Even though he had been hit, he was surprised how easy the simulation was. Simulations that the Zabrak had done prior to this were much more difficult. In fact, he often failed on his first attempts.

There had to be more. Looking about, he realized he was all alone in the middle of the canyon alone with several ships behind him. Tilting his fighter to the left, the padawan was able to spot the two fighters underneath him flying much lower.

The third was unaccounted for in his mind. Immediately he got on the comms. "Raxxar check in. Where are you?" he asked hastily.

Blaster fire from the ships behind were getting increasingly difficult. The padawan couldn't keep shaking them. Thinking on his toes, Denal pushed his controls as far forward as possible. His ship instantly began a nose dive...until he continued pushing forward.

His ship was now flying upside-down. Completing the full forward loop, padawan Vering was now behind the enemy fighters and he had found Raxxar as well. Looking to his left towards Raxxar, "Let's clear out these fighters!"

The jedi's guns began firing. With little room for the QIE to escape, it was quickly torn apart in a fiery blaze.

The Cerean saw that Matt was near her. Her only worry was that he would draw enemy attention yet again. The boy was smart though. He did not linger near her long and made sure to keep his distance.

After that, Kiva payed him little mind. For now she seemed to be receiving no enemy fire. For that she was relieved. Hearing Matt's voice, the Ceatean couldn't help but feel a touch of guilt for the way she had been acting.

What had they done to her? So, since the others seemed to busy to answer his question, she would and she would try to do it with little sass. "My screen says we are 60% percent of the way there. This doesn't seem right. Only these few enemy fighters?"

Less than thirty seconds after saying this, explosions began up ahead of them. They kept getting closer. Then she saw them. "TIE Bombers! Evasive Maneuvers!"

The enemy bombers were headed right towards them from up above. Their bombs layed waste to the canyon ground ahead. Kiva pulled up; hard.

Matt was going too fast to be able to see anything, although he began hearing explosions ahead. He was the one farthest ahead, so naturally, he was the first one to notice the bombers flying above them, and he flew to their level. Laughing, he shot a load of lasers at one of them, and hit a wing. The bomber began smoking and spun out of control, then hit the wall of the canyon and blew up.

Matt hummed happily as he shot at the bombers and slowly tilted the ship to the right, hoping to dodge the bombers when they reach him. As one of them neared him, Matt dove to the floor of the canyon, them back up.

"We're almost at the end!"

He began shooting at the bombers which were now too busy dodging him and stopped bombing the canyon. Matt looked below at the other Exiles, who seemed to be okay at the moment.

Roxxar stared at the kid in awe. Was he insane? He was barreling toward enemy bombers at top speed. Shaking his head, Roxxar flew at the bottom of the canyon, too far behind to see anyone as anything other than black dots.

He decided to take a leap of faith and also sped, in an attempt to catch up.

"Is everyone fine? And for the Force's sake, be more careful with those bombers, kid."

He tried not to lose control as Roxxard neared the other Exiles. His screen said they were 70% of the way there.

Still behind the original remaining fighters, Debal was determined to end them. There were two now and the padawan had one already locked in his sights. A firm press on the triggers and a blast came from each of the four guns on his fighter.

With two of the blasts reaching their target, the QIE fighter began to plummet as it smoked heavily all the way to the canyon floor. Now there was one more. Being the last one, the enemy fighter had more room to move and evade the Zabrak.

Following intensely, both ships began breaking left and right each trying to out do each other. All the while the bombers had been getting closer. Denal was too preoccupied to notice. Matt at least gor them to stop bombing, but that didn't mean they wouldn't continue with regular blaster fire. Since the other three pilots had gone ahead, padawan Vering was the only one who still had to make it past.

Feeling the barrage of blaster fire around him, the Zabrak was forced to adbandon his QIE target. Sharply he dove down towards the rest of his squadron. Barreling down, he went under the ships coming at him. He seemed to be in the clear with that one, but there had to be more.

"Exile, let's form up." the jedi recommended calmly as if preparing for something big. Moving up towards the center of the canyon, Denal got in a position that would easily set him up in the right wingman position.

Dodging the initial bombs that had been dropped, the Cerean had escaped the second challenge with only some scratches. Seeing that the bombers were not coming for a second pass, Kiva was happy that this was only a simulation and often times went against real world logic.

She saw as Matt dove straight into the bombers and barely escaped himself. If was risky and stupid and in combat that would not fly. "Are you trying to blow yourself up?!" Kiva shook her head.

Having passed the 70% mark, the padawan knew there was probably one more enemy attack to go. If Roxxar formed up, he would be the point man and be expected to relay to the others what he saw first.

Hearing Denal ask for a form up, the Cerean ascended to mid-height of the canyon. Going to the back of the group, she took her position.

Matt laughed at the girl's remark. "Oh, so you didn't blow up, eh?" he chuckled and did a barrel roll just to annoy her, then flew past a bomber and dived once Denal ordered to form up. He flew low, searching for everyone else.

Once he saw Kiva and Denal, he got into position on the left side of the diamond. Matt looked around and saw Roxxar flying toward them rather fast. His eyes widening, Matt got out of the way, and Roxxar zoomed past him, then his ship started slowing.

"Can we finish this now?" They were just idling now.

Roxxar tried to fly at an average speed. He tried. And yet, when he attempted to get into position, he ended up having to turn around and slow down, then assumed the front position, knowing he'd have to scout ahead.

He had no problem with this. since at least he had something to do now.

The squadron began increasing speed. Padawan Vering was less than impressed with Roxxar's flying today in the simulation. If the four of them had to go into combat today, Denal wouldn't trust Roxxar at his side. Matt showed incredible skill, but seemed reckless. There was no room for that in a squadron. Then there was Kiva, who also while skilled, has shown an immense lack of teamwork.

At least Kiva and Matt could work on their flaws. Even Denal knew that he himself was too headstrong and singleminded. If he did this in combat he would spend the entire battle chasing after one measly fighter. He too could work on this, unlike Roxxar. The simple fact was he just couldn't fly.

Continuing on through the winding canyon, the four or at least three if them kept right formation. The leader did his best, that much the Zabrak was grateful for. As they made their way along, their completion percentage increased. 75% 79% 83% 87%. They were so close now. The padawan knew there had to be something ahead. There just had to. "Raxxor what do you see?! he asked in a rushed tone.

Off in the distance...on the ground. Something big.

Kiva saw it too. Narrowing her eyes she lowered slightly to see under Raxxor's ship in front. "Is that a..." Large blaster rounds came straight at them. The four legged machine was the last thing standing between them and the exit of the canyon. An AT-AT/A began violently pursuing the four ships.

"Only in one of these stupid sinulations!" the Cerean shouted. She did her best to avoid the bulk of the blast, but she took a shot to the center of her right wing. Black smoke filled the air all around her. The smoke began blocking her view in front of her.

Her bomber began spinning out of control heading into the left canyon wall. Holding her controls as far right as possible, her ship barely escaped the wall. By no means was she safe however. Barely able to see and with one of her wings nearly shreds, there was little hope she would make it.

Still Kiva was grateful that she was not Roxxar. As she looked to the right, she could see the AT-AT/A had his ship dead in their sights.
